- 🇳🇵On my way down from EBC, I passed through a small village known as Pheriche, where I decided to stop for a quick cup of tea before continuing on. On this day I was trying to trek from Gorak Shep to Namche, a distance of about 30km, which is why I was in somewhat of a rush. However, this nice old man gave me a super good vibe and so I thought it would be nice to give him a little extra for the tea he served. Hope you enjoy the interaction.

It's insane how $40 in the US can mean so much more in Nepal. Chris what a kind heart you have !
Its cause 1$ USD is like 120+ NPR which (40$) equals to about 4-5K in NEPAL
$40 is $40. It’s no different in Nepal. $40 = 4,000 rupees.

Firstly, 40 USD is about 5000 rupees and secondly, I never said $40 is *worth* more, I said it *means* more, and it does. Cost of living is much lower in Nepal than the West so $40 goes much further there

I highly recommend watching: The Porter: The Untold Story at Everest 2020 here on YT. It's a 21 yr old American, named Nick, he wanted to experience the life of a porter. He spoke the language, ate, slept, & carried a very heavy load doing the Everest Base Camp Trek for a month. Safe travels.

Today Shiva Basnet was "blessed" by "god" and by you. Man, you could see the appreciation and joy in his eyes and also in yours brother for having the good fortune to meet such a good and humble man. Btw, to me that porter's dormitory had far more charm and warmth that the $26 room you recently stayed in in Mathura, India 🙂.
