I hunt south Louisiana and our property is a 1000 acre pine mixed hardwood thicket with streams running everywhere. Two swamps and one high line down the middle. We make food plots on the high line. We can only access the property from the north. Almost impossible to pin Down strict travel routes.
The best advice that has changed my hunting was to not hunt directly over food plots. TV hunting shows can be very misleading to a lot of hunters. Thanks to Jeff for helping me understand, and I was able to kill my biggest buck last year! Can't wait to see what happens this year
These videos have helped me so much! I look forward to watching them out the gate when the new ones show up! It’s not every day you can get in the mind of a veteran whitetail hunter just because they want to help you and see you do good! 👏👏👏
There are so many stubborn hunting buddyz i have, that need to see the video. Thankx Jeff
I got lucky and a friend let's me hunt his 100 acre family farm in Southern Illinois.
They do zero deer season prep. No cameras, plots, no stands. Just hay fields, bordered with 5 strands of barbed wire and crazy ravines/hills with 1000 acres of public timber surrounding it.
I show up after driving 1000 miles from my home in South FL the first week of November for about 7-10 days. "Morning and evening" stands aren't a thing. I can't kill him from the couch is absolutely real. I spend 2k a year on my week of hunting in Illinois. Not gonna sit it out cause the weather isn't perfect.
Sorry we can't all do it yer way.
We working guys have to get out and hunt when we can.
Then we go back to work.
That's real life Jeff.
🤔 LoL - I've been going to school, Jeff's "Church of the painful truth" school, for about 5 years now - taking victory laps for the last couple years!!! Thanks for all you do El Jefé !!
Thanks Jeff, good advice
Thanks Jeff! Can't wait for my season opener this Sunday! Gotta hit the stand quick before church! lol 😆
Thank you for the information!
i would almost pay you to come review Fort Cavazos (Fort Hood) just to see the weird and wacky deer movment under the restrictions of what we are allowed to use.
hey Jeff do deer day bed in the corn rows..
Hey sir! New hunter here, I appreciate all of your videos I am watching all of them. Im in Orlando, FL. If your familiar, the area any recommendations on were to hunt or any tips? Thanks for the great videos
Jeff this is very true we see this over and over again if conditions aren’t right you probably won’t see nothing just wait for that spot you know they are go scout another deferent piece or try a deferent piece don’t blow that spot because you will regret it and like you said just because I kill a monster every year out one or two stands for years don’t mean shit go do that in a new piece or piece’s if you can awesome but don’t be disappointed when you don’t see anything your right cuz it’s more then likely going to happen and I’ve been hunting since I was 16 I’m 47 now so I do know how to hunt but there isn’t no guarantees in new pieces plain and simple scout scout scout you have to figure out we’re there eating and we’re there bedding yea the rut is like a give me 😂 it really is though cuz unfortunately bucks aren’t thinking with there head so yes gives us a advantage but doesn’t mean we know what we’re doing we might just know we’re some does are and if you go there at the rut yes I’m sure there will be a buck somewhere but we’re is he now that’s what makes us good find out we’re he’s bedding and he’s eating and a good wind to hunt it and you might I said MIGHT see him and that’s if he’s not across the street definitely need too take a lot in to consideration just cuz you have a tuna boat don’t make you a tuna fishermen you need to learn how to catch them not just have the gear yes fishing is deferent but if you have no idea then you probably won’t catch one got to learn a lot before you become successful I don’t mean here and there I mean consistent but Jeff’s definitely right don’t blow your only good spot we all got one or should go hunt another piece or scout that day for another spot for a deferent wind have a safe hunting season stay blessed! 🙏
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Thank you Jeff and thank you also for teaching us so much I’ve changed as a hunter cuz of you and definitely for the better and all the bs You making money off us how it’s free smh but that’s those haters for us but just keep ignoring them and do what you do best and that’s teaching us stay blessed brother and Thankx again Jeff!
Can you start doing like a Q&A? maybe once a month or something? you could setup a patreon and subcribers could ask you more targeted questions. I have a few Id love to ask
I find my self not hunting any more in the mornings until late October - end of November. I just feel it does more harm then good. And a few mornings in December but only during Gun season, I have a few gun spots I can get into undetected.
I dont hunt mornings until halloween i make 2-3 mid morning rut sits and then dont hunt till rifle season I early morning sit opening weekend and then i dont morning sit again till next year
Next Sunday's opener will be 80 degrees, may need to find some work to do...
Man that's HOT! If you can wait it would be great but still fun to get out!
My hunting does not suck, it blows…my scent out towards the deer so they run away
I'm in south Alabama and planted Ladino clover with chickory yesterday. Good timing?
So true. Managed to take a buck the other day at 20 feet. Perfect end for the old boy. He didn't know what killed him. All he knew is someone had peed on the ground, and he couldn't figure out who.
Jeff, your article was in the 2015 (not 2016) November issue. Would you change any of the formula today?
Some public land I hunt in Tennessee has a very restrictive archery season, essentially only open the first 2 weeks of October (unless you draw a quota tag). The issue I have is it’s hot those entire two weeks, roughly 75-85 degrees every day. Given your advice with not hunting hotter days, what would be your thoughts be on a way to approach this since waiting for cooler weather isn’t really an option unless I wait until the property opens for rifle in December?
Heard a quote one time “Persistence without insight heeds the same results”. Sometimes we need help lol
#3 is been thrown around in our shack for years
It's too early to start suckin...lol
Inless you do something to make it that way..at least on private. Have warm weather coming to Indiana this coming week, but thats okay because i got 2.4" rain in the last 24hours! Good trade-off, i guess, because my plots needed it badly. So I can be happy that my plots will at least not be disappointing. All looks well on cell pics anyhow, haven't seen them in person for 5 weeks.
Have a promo code for hunt wise?? Really would like to use it
Hey jeff hope u talk about the up coming cold front wensday 82 to 75 thursday or wait for thursdayv to friday dropping to high of 66 😮 got a few days off to use seems like a great opportunity
It looks very good in our area next Friday/Sat after the front rolls thru!
Awesome thanks for the input i do see the rain hoping they get that part wrong 😂
👍🏼🦌
Did you or jen see a target buck ?
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751nope not yet but see how Jeff says yet he knows there all going too shoot a mature buck that’s a fact stay blessed! WHY YOUR HUNTING SUCKS LMAO! 😂💪💪
Hey Jeff, our property butts up against a large 1,000 acre WMA in northwest MN. It’s largely inaccessible as there’s no good access and it’s just a tangled heaven for mature monsters. Unfortunately it’s difficult to create a sanctuary being so close to this highly desirable sanctuary. Could you talk about handling a situation like this?
@@whitehondarider22 we gots lots of food and water now. Seeing a ton more bucks because of it. Just curious about a specific situation like that.
They're clearly going to bed on the 'sanctuary', so I'd only hunt a wind favorable stand over a desirable food source in the afternoon. Morning sits would be a waste of time. Good luck. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be
How would you recommend hunting water sources, such as morning or evening? I have a spring fed pond between two oak ridges and lots of deer in the area but having a hard time getting in to hunt it without spooking deer.
Go in mid morning and hunt thru the day, especially during the rut when the bucks are running them ridges they will want a mid day drink
upper 70s temp this weekend opening day....probably not a good day to hunt?
So let's say you have your number one target buck coming into a good source, but how it's set up you aren't able to hunt his bedding or travel route into the plot. Would you get aggressive and set up on our near the plot?
So all you can hunt is the plot, and your asking if you should hunt on or near the plot, im confused is the plot along the property line and hes coming from the neighbors? Is the plot a field and all you own is the field? Is there any scrapes along the field?
This why I respect those who successfully hunt Public land far more than someone that Hunts private land where they have total control! No comparison.
Just because you can hunt private land doesn't always make it easier. If your land is not where the deer are, you're kinda out of luck lol
Dan infalt hunts beds in the evening almost exclusively
I’m kinda getting concerned! I’ve watched great summer bucks this year on neighboring properties but still waiting for them to shift on our place! We have everything food, no human intrusion and great clear cuts!
Just have to be patient Drew! How is the doe population?
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751the does population is like 5-6 does on 40 acres
Been waiting on the shift too, and now the wolves showed back up which definitely messes with ”the switch” had a pack on camera lastnight now I now know why the doe families have disappeared
Drewman, I'm in that same boat, big woods great food, made bedding areas, 2 year in a row not hunting the pre-rut asd no decent bucks moved in..... ZERO human intrusion as farms in OH I'm in FL. One thing I'm not BAITING and all the outfitter (N) and Amish (E) bait heavy....
🦌😁
How about because I hunt public land and people are constantly ruining it. No matter where I go someone walks through the wood making noise, playing radios loud , walking dogs.
It's tough because in the states I consistently work in I see adjacent public land that is lightly hunted...in most areas of each state...MN, WI, MI, PA and OH. Lots of room to roam!
@@mattgamatko3720 that's rough ! Maybe knock on lots of doors after season
@@mattgamatko3720I have got permission to hunt 3 neighbors properties. I have noticed that it has to be people you know personally like there might be a 1-5% success rate to a stranger but if you know the person as friend or family it’s a 50/50 chance if they don’t hunt
Try to locate the lesser traffic areas or even over looked areas. I hunt state land myself and a very pressured parcel. But I just relocated the area on this pressured land and the difference was a creek that was 4 inches deep and a foot wide. I see more deer and better quality deer just crossing that minimal bit of water. People want it easy. And honestly people don't want to step over creeks because it seems like more work and it's really not. Good luck to you this season sir. Aim small miss small. Be safe out there God bless
Lol L.L.Beam
the best advice i've gleaned from Jeff is. "hunt the best weather days" its the single best advice he gives in my opinion. I've been hunting only the best weather days on my farm for the last 4 years or so. I'm more successful and you aren't there when its hot and you are pissed the weather sucks. thanks Jeff
Really appreciate your feedback Mike!
