As the World runs out of fossil fuel - essential for real things! Like transporting food!
We waste all this fuel - to watch cars go around and around in circles burning more fuel.
Time auto-racing goes the same way as Roman Chariot racing. Its immoral.

I tend to disagree with you. While I'm not much into Nascar, I prefer road racing or Formula 1, I believe that there has been a lot of technology gained and a rich history with many legends made from motorsport. Come on... you haven't always been a judgmental old man! Anyway, just as we invented the internet and computers, the new generations will solve fusion reactors and we won't have to worry about fossil fuels anymore.

@@CarloBambino Fair enough. But as we invent new solutions the old ways of doing things die out. Back in the 50's the racetrack helped us invent new vehicular technology. Disc brakes. Radial tires etc.
      Not anymore.
The racetrack is the worst and most expensive way to do R&D. All new technology is developed in the laboratory/factory using computers. Computer simulation replacing track testing.
Look at Tesla. Never seen a racing car, or a racetrack. Yet leads the EV technology development by miles. And the future of cars.
Auto racing is irrelevant - except for entertainment. And our grandkids can save what little fossil fuel we have left them for where it's irreplaceable. Air travel. for instance.

Dennis Merwood I see your concern about fossil fuels, but maybe when all our cars are electric using graphene capacitors instead of lithium batteries, we can still have motorsport as entertainment too.
