This is how incompetent the Biden administration is.
First off, putting a tariff on Chinese Semi-conductors is an absolutely pointless endeavor. China is woefully behind the majority of the world when it comes to semi-conductor market share. Taiwan and South Korea dominate the market, producing over 81% of all semiconductors in use, meanwhile China's two state owned semi-conductor manufacturing companies struggle to maintain 5% of the market share. That tariff makes zero sense since we don't buy Chinese semi-conductors anyway.
But then he proceeds to severely tariff EV's and Solar Panels, while pushing these asinine clean energy agendas, meaning people are forced in higher priced energy options without any option to default to cheaper options that rely on either petroleum or more often natural gas, just a stupid move all around if you're actually trying to adopt clean energy policies (which are already stupid, but I digress).
But these are the "economic experts" we're supposed to trust.

Ben's wrong on this one and this is about the only Biden policy I have ever agreed with. Only better policy than tariffs would be a 100% ban on imports from China.
Toxic products - children's toys with lead and cadmium paints, sub-par metal quality tools that break the first time you use them, oxidized unsafe electrical components and switch contacts, toxic and fake food products, goji berris with heavy metals, plastic rice, gutter oil.
Let alone the fentanyl analogues, nitazenes and methamphetamine precursors poisoning and killing more young Americans than the Vietnam War every year.
If we are too stupid to realize China has been waging both economic and biological warfare against us for decades while strategically supplanting American industry through intellectual property theft, and subsidy of strategic industry by their military then there is no hope.
The biggest geo-political mistake in history was Nixon & Kissenger's "opening" of China to the Western world. Its never a good idea to expedite an authoritarian communist regime into economic super-power status.
I recall buying virtually indestructible electrical outlet boxes at home depot in the early 2000's made of steel and manufactured in Detroit. Now they are all from china- aluminum and so thin you can crush them in your hand, basically thick aluminum foil, and the screw threads strip when you try to mount the outlet covers on them. And how about the toxic drywall that outgasses formaldehyde fumes for years?
Even if its some short term pain for consumers it's time to break the addiction to cheap, toxic and dangerous Chinese goods. Why do we continue subsidizing our own poisoning and the outsourcing of our manufacturing and ability to produce our own goods. If you actually believe in the markets and capitalism this will become opportunity for American entrepreneurs and manufacturing. Yes it may be painful for a while, but not addressing this problem in the long term will be suicide.

Tariffs increase consumer prices. As a result, people buy cheaper items that have little to no tariffs built into the price.
And China won't sell as much and lowers their cash flow.
I want my gasoline. Cheap, abundant, reliable, etc.
EV's are horribly expensive, expensive and difficult to repair (which you cannot DIY the repair), very limited travel ranges, LONG recharge times, etc.
And when it comes time to replace batteries, that will cost as much as what the vehicle is worth.
Switching to EV's just switches the LOCATION of the pollution. Doesn't save squat.

The EV push by the gov is half baked to begin with. The power grids across the US aren't even ready for a massive EV push, and there are still problems that have yet to be solved with EVs such as...
    1. People who don't have a garage - How can they charge them at home?
    2. Power grid can't handle everyone turning on their AC on a hot summer day. How will is also handle people charging their cars?
    3. Cost of batteries - If a battery pack get's damaged by running over debris, it's not uncommon to total the EV due to battery costs.
    4. Northern states that have this thing called Winter. Cold snaps raise havoc on batteries. We saw this just a few months ago.
    5. Emergency situations where the power is out - Example, Houston right now or southern states when a hurricane goes through or a Tornado in other states, or a blackout when the grid fails, etc..
    6. Long distance trips are a complete headache because you have to calculate long stops at charging stations or plan routes to include those stations.
I'm not against EV, but we should probably solve these issues BEFORE pushing them on the general public.
But instead, the current admin and liberal states like CA pushed them hard because they are "greener"... Are they?
No, they don't have emissions, but they are certainly dirty to build them due to the massive amount of batteries in them. There are also concerns over the damage EV's do to infrastructure due to their massive weight. The average weight of a small car is a little over a ton, maybe 1.5 tons. The battery pack alone in an EV can weigh more than that.
Oh, here's some fun to see how biases Google is with their searches.
Google "Average weight of a small car"
Then Google "Average weight of an EV"
Notice the results of a small car are nice and clear, and in lbs, but the results for the EV are converted to metric and they put the battery pack in lbs to make it seem like they aren't that heavy.
