An old trick to removing the stock bolt is use a tire iron. Many a stock has been cracked from getting the screwdriver tip jammed between the screwhead and the stock and thinking they were on the screw slot. The tire iron is to big to get off center.
I have a Model 99 300 Savage that I have dated to the early 1930's. I have had it for many years and killed a lot of deer with it. I took it out of the gun cabinet this year and the lever is sticking and is very hard to open and close. I have oiled it and worked it several times and this does not seem to help. This is the first time that I have ever had any problems with it and it has not been dropped nor have I ever had it apart. Any clues as to what could be causing this problem?
It doesnt take a gunsmith to take apart, clean, fix. I did It to my savage 99 308. Now she looks beautiful. No cracked wood visible and refinished with tung oil and I reblued.
I had a mint 1899 38-55 given to me. Thanks for showing me how to care for it!

Lovely old gun. I have a newer 99c in .308. Doesn't the spring need some peload for it to feed right?

you are not a gun gunsmith
never claimed to be. Showing basic teardown is not the same.
