Update: just got back from my recruiters office. I have to come back in as a E3 because I’ve been out so long (5 years). I had three jobs to choose from IT, IS, AND Seabee. I chose IS (information specialist). Thank you again, this video was very helpful.

I'm planning on joining the Navy through OCS. I'm presently studying Marine Environment and Pollution Control in a Maritime University. First of, I hope my course of study wouldn't hinder me? Second, I heard something about being in the squadron Navy and being attached to the ship. Does my course of study dictate where I'd be? Can I be attached to a ship even as an environmental scientist? How's the rising in rank going to be for me? Please, I'd appreciate very honest response from you.
Unless you are an FTS hospital corpsman. They are active duty. They get active duty benefits, but they get paid by reserve. Look into FTS aka TAR (full time support or temporary active reserve).
