  • In this video, I review my procedure for sharpening hand shears that are used to shear sheep, alpacas, llamas and maybe more.
One pair failed the cut test so I review how I should have detected the issue sooner and how I corrected it to get the shears to cut correctly.

I don't know anything about making videos so I don't know if doing a voice-over afterwards is a pain or not, but from a viewer's perspective I really like it because you the creator can collect your thoughts and say exactly what needs to be said instead of trying to do it 'live' where maybe you don't know what you eventually knew after you were done with the particular task.
Edit: I was typing up my reply just a few minutes into the video, before you came on and mentioned that this is the type of video that's common in the guild. Nice. I'm just sharpening mower blades at the moment so I don't feel like I'm ready to join yet (since mower blade sharpening is kind of the most 'caveman' of sharpening tasks), but I've watched quite a few of your videos (just saw the Tormek one the other day) and I have a growing interest in possibly expanding to do more. I've had several people ask me if I sharpen this or that, and unfortunately my answer is always no.

Thanks so much, I appreciate your comment. Very cool.
We recently had a guest speaker join us in the guild for one of our weekly calls and we went deep on mower blades. There's a lot more to them than most of us think.
That conversation was recorded should you ever consider joining.
Thanks again, really appreciate the nice comment.

@@capnmatt41 Gerd knows his stuff. I use one of his sharpeners and balancers for mower blades.

Yeah he does, we had an awesome call with him. Took us past the 101 content that he has on their CZcams channel.

Is that a special belt for sharpening? Or standard 120 grit?

    • @capnmatt41

They are special belts but not strictly for sharpening.
Probably won't find them in a hardware store.

Set the edge with the cubitron 120?
