I just noticed one reason, why I like BMFE 1 more than the other 2 games. Because it looks so awkward when huge clumps of armies are standing face to face while some units are fighting in the front and the rest stands inactive at the back.

Gimli cannot defeat aragorn because he must save slayer to escape the battalion of othbreakers. Aragorn with blademaster is tankier than gimli with slayer. Gimli without slayer can be kited by aragorn who is faster
