Took a cross country trip in my airplane Lil Red and saw this over in Waco. The winds were brutal that day but I still nailed my landing. Winds don't mess with Kay Hall! :)
GREAT landing in very challenging conditions, you flew it all the way to the landing rollout - a gusting crosswind! But that's a confidence builder because you won't be afraid to flying into those conditions, knowing you have to land.
After you touched down, you quit flying the airplane, that's what brought you further left of center. You actually need to increase aileron to the right (in this case) to compensate for the decreasing control effectiveness as speed decreased. Great vid tho.
@@beauhall2055 I have to agree with Stephen. Once the flight controls do not become effective on the ground you need to put in full aileron deflection in the direction that the wind is coming from. This ensures that no wind picks up the up wind wing and rolls the plane over after it has touched down.
@@beauhall2055 Stephen is saying once u touch down u aren’t done flying the plane wind correction on the ground should continue with aleron deflection to help keep the plane from flipping over after touchdown
You said it anyone who wants to critisize your landing should b aware the winds blew a plane over & your landing was absolutely spot on for the conditions great job👍
I knew an old guy who painstakingly recovered the wings of his Aeronca. Once done, he parked it at the airport next to the fence and tied it down with two 500# tractor weights. The winds picked up to 60mph one day and the airplane started flying. It lifted the weights, went backwards over the fence, flipped on its back and both weights came down on the wings, breaking both spars. He took it apart...took it home and started all over again.
Tip your wing into the crosswind to prevent ballooning. It will also help preventing flipping the aircraft during big gusts. I was taught to lean into the wind and let that side of the gear touch first, than bring the nose back as the rest of the gear touchdown
My son and I landed in Puyallup Washington. He flying and we had crosswinds in the '20s. It was tough. I don't criticize anyone after going through that with him. Good job.
Well I'm Glad You Finally Landed I'm Sure The Wind The Problem I Once Worked With Hot Air Balloons And We Couldn't Go Up When the Winds Reached 15 Knots You Did A Great Job Landing Red
Looks good to me! I landed my Long Ez at Greenwood, IN, KHFY several years back with a 22knot crosswind factor and lined up on the east side of 75’ wide runway and after touch down I was on the other side.
This reminds me of an XC flight I took my mom on right after getting my PPL. We came back into town and there was a highly unusual summer storm rolling into the area. Rwy 12/30 and winds were 210 and 13 gusting 18. Direct 90 degree crosswind regardless of the runway I used. I went for 30 as I was more comfortable with a crosswind from the left. It took nearly full deflection aileron and rudder in order to maintain center line. Good times! Nice work btw! Well done I say.
Landing on the center line is a good habit to form, and helps to sharpen precision and focus. that way when something unusual happens (like a strong crosswind gust) you've got some wiggle room.
@Flywithkay Great job! Sometimes a crosswind landing has to be firm. I got my PPL at (AXH) Houston Southwest. I grew up just outside of Houston. So kinda a fellow Houstonian Aviator. All the best, keep smiling, and enjoy what less than 1% of the world's population gets to experience.
Suggestion, everything was good until after touchdown. You need to roll in full aileron into the wind. That will keep your wing down and the adverse yaw wil help your rudder. Those winds didn't turn that plane over, there must have been stronger ones prior to you arriving.
Any landing you didn’t die from is a learning opportunity, and I wouldn’t even call that a bad landing considering conditions, nobody said landings had to be pretty!
I’ve done hundreds and hundreds of landings at this point, and a lot of them are far from perfect. I’d argue it’s one of the hardest things about flying. But I’ve never destroyed a plane and I’ve walked away from every single one. So I think I’m doing pretty well.
Took my ppl in Saskatchewan (very windy there). We NEVER tied an aircraft down after a flight. Only chocked the wheels. I always felt that this was unsafe for the aircraft and the students were never taught how to tie an aircraft down. Not even sure most of the instructors could tie one down properly
This girl didn’t crash this plane as ppl in the comments are seeming think…she observes a plane that has flipped due to not being tied down in the parking area
My last flight lesson was stage check prep, had winds at 090 @ 7 and was landing on rwy 36, i was in my flare with full cross wind correction, had a wind shift and gust from the north that shot me up out of ground effect and into a stall. scared the hell out of me and had my hardest landing yet. im glad i got a chance to experience it, crosswinds and unpredictable gusts and wind shifts make us better pilots.
Pa28 160, I landed on 18 with the winds 270 at 21 gust 28, I did get it down safely but no way was it pretty. I tied it down and went back to get it 2 days later, I didn't want anymore of that! Holly Molly! I was about an hour and a half from my home airport.
Had a few looks at your approach and flare, I've decided that it's about as close to a greaser as you're gonna get in a crosswind. Can't remember exact max crosswind component on a Cherokee, but I'd honestly say you did fine. Nice one Kay 👍🏻👍🏻😎
A real pilot won’t trash talk a fellow aviator, because everyone has room for improvement and no one is a perfect pilot.
Good job 🤙🏻🤙🏻
I think you did fine 🙂!
well said!!
Yeah, most of complaints came from PC chair pilots. For shure!
No one is perfect just remember ur beautiful and I want to be a pilot when I'm older so I'll follow ur steps cause ur a great pilot

You can see how windy it is by watching all the corrections on the control Yoke!
Looked like a perfect landing in those conditions, well done.
Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. Mother Nature is always throwing us curve balls.
I hate that saying. It’s simply not true.
That's really only valid if the plane has a critical failure in flight
Landing gear says otherwise

Um what? When she touched down she was still correcting for wind, then it went to the flipped airplane. Did you actually watch the video? Serously?
