    Kurt mentioned in some interviews that he HATES when people scream and clap during a song which has heavy meaning. When they performed Polly for the first several times, people kept on making noise not realising the lyrics itself. So they decided to kind of "rewrite" the song with more literal lyrics, and different tone thus Rape Me was made.
    You can see him at 1:18 being surprised from the excitement of the audience even though he highly exaggerated what he is going to sing about, and then at 1:21 he is like "Fuck them I'm just gonna start the song". Well at least that's what I see in his mimic...

      Calling it grunge is followed by the thought "why do bands only have a couple songs and why are they called hits"? I bet you burned the best mixed cds. Grunge isn't a genre of music or a Seattle music scene. It's a term created by the mainstream in order to label package and market

    • @HelmaxEgon-th2ie
      @HelmaxEgon-th2ie Před rokem +3

      "To be a grunge"?? No one was "grunge" back then, my friend. Grunge was never a movement. Some may think it was but it was just the Seattle scene that didn`t follow the mainstream glam metal and power metal thing, so they went back to the 60s psychedelic rock, 70s heavy metal and punk rock music. What we call "grunge" today is basically just alternative rock. We, GenX was fed up with the glam metal bands in the late 80s and embraced Nirvana`s raw, simple and real music. Singing about depression, suicide and social justice, they just ripped a hole in the bubble the music industry had created.
      The quick change in 1991, after Nevermind was released just show how tired everyone was with the glammy 80s. But if someone tells you that grunge was a movement, they are lying. It was just a genre, a name coined by a music journalist like most genres have been through modern music history.
      Also keep in mind that the grunge genre died off with Kurt. The grunge bands was in fact already seen as has-been`s by 1994 after more techno inspired bands like Prodigy, NIN, Marilyn Manson etc was on full blast, creating what we can call a movement: the rave era, that still is very much alive today, although it has evolved a lot since the techno and rave scene in the 90s. Grunge was pretty much dead by 1995. Kurt and Nirvana would probably move onto something else. Kurt did talk about going solo right before he died.
      He was probably seeing what was coming..
