  • I was a Vivint salesman, and had Vivint Solar Panels installed on my own home last year. I was so disappointed with my own system that I left the company. Watch the video to find out why! Have YOU had a terrible experience with Vivint? Let us know. Please like and share!

I'm a Vivint Solar PPA customer, activated since August of '17, and so far everything is exactly what I was to expect. I haven't paid the grid electric company since March of '18 (for Feb. electricity) and am paying Vivint exactly what I would expect. I keep record of how much electricity the panels produce and calculate by the agreed upon rate per kWh. So far, no surprises at all. I'm looking forward to the end of year 6 when they'll make me an offer to buy out the contract. If their offer is significantly less than what I've already calculated my total payments will amount to through years 7-20, factoring in the annual 2.9% increase, I may take them up on it. Anyway, I'm not a shill or an employee. I'm a customer and have zero bad experience thus far.

I'm glad your system is working as expected! As I said in the video, it isn't the system that concerns me. If there's an issue with the system, that's where the fun begins. The good news with your ppa is that you don't pay if the system isn't producing. They don't offer that in Utah, so we got a loan, which we must pay regardless of output.

Thanks for the note. Nothing has changed - good or bad. We haven't needed another service call so there's no other data. And to top it all off, after our first year, our production was down almost 7% from what they claimed the system was going to produce. And it has NOT been a particularly cloudy or snowy year. More reasons not to trust them.

This is not a one size fits all decision. Each State is different. With reduction of Fed Tax Credit, a surplus of energy, and vanishing or non existent SREC's, you need to understand and know what your are getting. Example, NJ is still a good deal, Pa is not. It's simple numbers and don't let a Sales Rep mislead you. Watch when they figure your electric cost. A rep might take the bill and divide by number of Kw's. Only problem is a lot of Utilities charge a Service Charge, sometimes as much as $15 per month. And you will pay that every month and must be deducted from your total electric cost to get a real kw charge. If you catch the rep doing this, throw them out! Sales people make a good buck off of you, and this is not a short term commitment. Be smart! Just saying, know what you are doing.

Thanks Thomas. You're 100% correct. I LOVE solar, and both of our homes are solar powered. But just be very very careful when choosing a company. One of our homes are with a local company and they've never failed to excel when I've called them. Vivint on the other hand... :(
