  • If you like this video please subscribe to my channel and give me a thumbs up, it really helps! In this video i give you my personal views of why, when i decided to purchase a new pellet smoker i chose to buy a RecTec Grill (now RecTeq) over a Traeger, Green Mountain Grill, Camp Chef, Grilla Grills, or Pit boss! I list out the 3 main reason that made my decision easier when i was trying to figure out what the best pellet smoker i could buy for under $1,000 dollars! All of these companies make great products and they all fill a need for customers but for me the Rec Tech checked off more of the things that i found important! One quick edit in the video I say it’s made in Georgia actually the majority of it is made in China the electronics and computer are made in the United States and it’s assembled in the United States but the majority of the grill is made in China!

I have a 590 and although the build is great and the smoking is easy the customer service is what made me a fan boy. After my first smoke my niece decided to help me out my washing the inside down with a hose. Yeah...she's dead to me. The auger was so stuck with swollen pellets that it bent trying to get it out. I, shame filled, called Rec Tec and they told me I would need a new auger, a new feeder, and a new ceramic lighter. They said it would be in the mail that day. When I asked what it was going to cost the reply was, "Oh...no, that's why you bought a Rec Tec." It was at my door a week later and has worked perfect since. You show me that kind of service and you get a customer for life!

Thank you very much Billy! I appreciate you watching and the kind words! The 590 is great for me i smoke 2 huge turkeys or brisket at a time with no problems! If you’re going to be smoking more than that at a time then the 700 is your best bet! If you’re going to be cooking a lot in a cold weather climate the 700 also is a heavier gauge steel and they sell an insulation blanket for it! I also wanted to stay under the $1,000 mark so the 590 checked all my boxes!

Decent review. You convinced me that the build quality is superior. Also that you are very satisfied with the customer service. Yes, and the price is competitive. I do not want to be negative. Hopefully you’ll take this as constructive criticism. You repeated your satisfaction with those three issues numerous times. I would like to to have seen some additional detail such as how easy it is to access the ash clean out. I was not previously aware of this brand, but it has now one that I will consider buying. This was one of my earlier videos, and trust me after watching it again and again I realize I repeated quite a bit! I like the idea of making a new video of cleaning it out, I’m going to add that to my list! For under $1000 this is still a great smoker, there are some better but those are closer to $2000! They’re all about the same to clean out, at least once or twice a year I take the grill grates off and the heat deflector and scrape it off and clean the grease out etc.! Best of luck and please let me know what you decide!

Glad it was helpful! Thanks for Watching Greg! RecTeq makes a great pellet smoker and for the $ it's hard to beat! Yes Traeger and GMG make good products but they are way over priced for the quality of the metal they are using, you end up paying $800 for a $400 smoker. If you want to go for a more affordable pellet smoker i would just opt for the Pit Boss Pro www.lowes.com/pd/Pit-Boss-Pro-Series-850-sq-in-Hammer-Tone-Pellet-Grill/5000183179 For this one, it's not the best but the price is fair for what you get! @@HarplandProductions Hi, Greg again! I noted today when I returned to the Redteq site that within the last few days they rolled out their new model, the RT-1250, and it looks like they have taken into consideration many reviewers and owner recommendations for improvements. This one has the optional front shelf as standard now, they've enclosed the ignition wiring in flexible conduit, etc. It is a whopping $1,599, but after several months, and more recent serious consideration, I pulled the trigger today and bought this newest model and a cover for it too. I had also communicated with Recteq directly with many questions, and I have to give them their props, they answered me every time, and expeditiously too. My wife, sons and I will be awaiting their build and delivery. My critical brother watched some of the same reviews I saw, and he told me that it was this review of yours that finally sold him on the purchase of a Recteq. He is just finishing up his outdoor kitchen down in FL where he lives, and he had a custom space built in for his acquisition of a Kamado Joe. I hope he likes that for himself. Take care, Greg.

Got the same grill and totally happy with it. My only regret is not getting the RT700. I could use a little more surface, but the 590 is a kick ass grill. I added the front shelf and got their small grilling rack. I put a glass pickle jar in the grease bucket and put the lid on between cooks - toss the jar in the trash when full and have another jar ready to go. For searing, I do a reverse sear technique by using a dedicated iron skillet and avacado oil. This works very well. About to experiment with wagyu beef tallow in the iron skillet. (don't leave the skillet in the grill when not in use, especially if you live in a humid climate, it will grow rust).

I LOVE my Rec Tec smoker! It makes smoking anything super easy. The only complaint I have about it is having to unscrew the grate (and one of my screws got stripped in the process), to empty out pellets if you want to change the type of pellet you are wanting to use. It would be so easy to put a small door on the thing to just open and dump out the pellets into a bucket like I've seen with some brands of smokers.

I was hoping to get the grill right away and they said that it was going to be 2-3 weeks to freight it out here, then I got a call from a different shipper out of Utah and said they would be delivering the whole order in 3 days. I have had my RT 700 Bull since 2018. Just upgraded to the BFG. I can not say enough how much I like the RecTeq quality and build. I have had ZERO issues whatsoever. I have smoked countless briskets, ribs, chickens, butts, turkeys, sausages, and many other foods, all without any issues. What I did stop doing was “grilling” with it. I bought the sear kit- 2 sets actually to cover my entire grate surface, and I am not overly excited about the heat produced. Honestly it was a gigantic PITA waiting for it to get hot enough. After it does get hot when you open the lid it loses too much heat. I don’t feel that it recovers quick enough for grilling purposes. I have stuck with my trusty flat top griddle and gas grill for the searing and grilling.
For what it is and it’s MAIN purpose-smoking-I would not trade it for anything, and honestly I have liked it so much I went ahead and shelled out the $3,000 for the BFG and it is HUGE!!!!! I have not looked back and look forward to countless cooks and meals with it. I shipped my 700 to my brother in law in Illinois because God forbid he was using an electric smoking cabinet.

That said, I'm just wanting to cook less expensive meats, maybe smoke a turkey, smoke some salmon, etc. Question: have you found the cooking area (allowing a wee bit of room away from front and back edge) to be pretty uniform? Can it do 180-190 comfortably. To me, that temp range consistency seems important. Thanks for your presentation.

I did the same thing, i wanted to be able to smoke 2 Turkeys for our annual thanksgiving dinner and the 590 is just big enough to do 2 turkeys at a time! If you do not need something that big, they also have one size smaller which is a little more affordable! The 590 is very heavy duty steel and will maintain the low heat very easily without any issues at all!

Hello Mark, thank you so much for watching and the comment! Glad you liked it! Traeger makes a good grill but The older models were made of heavier grade steel and seemed to hold up a little better, now they are much more mass produced, etc. Does that mean their bad...no but to even get close to build level as the RECTEQ 590 or 700 you would need to look at the Traeger Timberline series which starts out at $1,799.99 which is $600 more than the RECTEQ 700. to be objective RECTEQ uses 304 grade stainless steel, Traeger doesn’t use 304 grade they use a mixture of cheaper steels. 304 grade cost a lot more and is much more Resistant to rust, and retains heat better so from just a materials perspective you get a better quality build for less! so the Traeger should cost less but due to branding and marketing the $ is higher. The RECTEQ isn't as fancy but for the $ nothing even comes close, it also has 2 meat probes which for me is a must and if you go with the RECTEQ 590 which is still huge ( i can smoke 2 large turkeys for 5 racks of ribs with no issues) you looking at almost $1000 less than the Timberline. I would go with a 590 and get all the options and you would still end up spending less $ for a higher quality smoker. With the current quality of steel the Timberline should be in the $700-$800 range so your paying a lot for just brand name. This is just My 2 Cents worth :)

Really great video man. Appreciate it. Love the look and quality of rectec. I have the same philosophy as you, I’d rather have a quality basic grill that’s going to last me a while than a fancy one that rusts out. Currently I’m leaning toward grilla grill. Did you consider them when you were shopping? I did some comparing and the body on a grilla silverback is 1.6 mm stainless whereas the rectec stampede is 1.2 mm stainless... so grilla is actually 25% more heavy duty, however I’m not sure what kind of stainless they use. I don’t see it advertised as 304. Silverback weighs 159 lbs, stampede 123 lbs. I prefer the name grilla grill to rectec lol but I think both are a huge improvement over traeger or pitboss 👍

Thank you very much for watching and commenting, I greatly appreciate it! I remember looking at the Grilla’s and I think it came down to them not offering wifi and the RecTeq did! Also even though the grilla is heavier overall I believe the actual body of the Recteq is heavier gauge steel! No matter which one you choose I think you’ll be happy! I don’t know anything about their customer service but Recteq’s is amazing!! The Wi-Fi was a dealbreaker for me, it makes life so much easier! But I agree RecTeq and grilla are both leagues above all the other ones I mentioned in my video! Closer to the $2000 mark then I would consider a Yoder or a Spitts and pits! Let me know what you decide! I’m posting a pulled pork video tomorrow so stay tuned and consider subscribing if you have it. Thanks again buddy!

Thank you so much for watching! I have lots of fiends who have and love Camp Chef's, not bad smokers just think, like Traeger they have started using cheaper steel and charging more and more for them. Regarding the shelf question, the firebox is all just one solid piece of stainless steel so it's very sturdy, not sure what your are planning so hard to answer, it would have to be mounted in a way were it wasn't close to any wood surface so if you were going to set it on a shelf it would need to be able to hold a couple hundred pounds and bee stone or metal.

I see videos of RecTec users having to scoop out or vacuum pellets out of the hopper in order to change pellet flavors. They are great if you want to use your pellet smoker to sear things (almost impossible without them) I often times smoke things for a few hours and then heat it up with the grill grates to put a final sear on things! The Camp Chef is good but way overpriced for the quality of the metal! If it was around $400 then ok, it’s on the same level of quality as pit boss and traeger both use very thin metal and cheaper components! Thickness and quality of metal is the #1 thing to look for in buying any grill or smoker for me! Better heat retention, more even cooking and last forever!

Yes you are correct that the majority is manufactured in China with the exception of the electronics and controls which are build in Georgia. Final assembly is all done in Georgia also. PItts & Spitt and Yoder both make fantastic USA build pellet smokers but you are going to pay double the price for them. To get anything that compares to the RT700 that is USA built you will have to spend $2,000+ minimum. I was in the same boat as you, i wanted a Yoder but it was hard enough to convince my wife to buy my RecTeq 590 so $2k wasn't even an option! The overall build quality of a RecTeq RT700 is much higher than any Traeger or any other comparable brand, the metal is much higher gauge and they use higher quality stainless steel which all translate to a better more even cook while using less pellets! The 590 also has 2 meat probes included and the wifi and iPhone App are game changers. It's so awesome to be able to put 2 big turkeys in it and set a temp alarm then i can go inside or run errands and it tells me when it's ready! You can also turn it on or off and turn the heat up and down, etc....It's Awesome! Last but not least the 590 is all 304 Gauge Stainless Steel, on the Grilla only the lid is! First off, thank you very much for watching and taking the time to comment, I appreciate it! I have multiple grills and smokers and i use this one for mainly BBQ (Low and Slow) but you can absolutely use this for anything, it gets up the same high heat as a gas grill, 500F+ and usually takes 15 minutes or so to reach high heat depending on the outside temp. The one difference with using a smoker is that it's all indirect heat so to get a good sear on anything you need to use add on "Sear Grates" I use a brand called, "Grill Grates" they fit right on top the the RecTeq grate and they get hotter and sear! So for burgers i like the crisp on the outside so i would cook them on sear grates and brat's you can do either way or you can also smoke them slow for an hour then crank the heat up at the end. Here is a link to the grill grates so you can see them.

It is not all 304SS only the internal parts. The electronics used to be made in the US but no longer. It is assembled in the US as you say, but by the end user not the company. @HarplandProductions  Před 3 lety +1

Hello Dave, Thanks for watching, correct only the main fire box part of the smoker is 304 SS, the base and pellet hopper are powder coated steel. I have had mine going on 6 years and it's outside in the elements 24/7 and have had zero issues with anything breaking or not working. They do sell replacement parts for all of the moving internal components. For the $ it's hard to beat this level of build, All of the more commercial brands mentioned in the video are all much lower grade steel, which is the #1 thing that makes a good smoker due to longevity and better heat retention, etc. All of the ones i mention in the video use very thin gauge steel even on their top of the line models, they are not bad brands but none of them should be charging any more than $500, your basically paying for the brand and a bunch of add on accessories that you don't really need. If you go over $1,000 then there are a handful of other brands that make even better options but you have to get closer to the $2k mark to get anything made in the USA, Check our Yoder and Pitts & Spitts if you are interested in those!

I bought the Recteq Bullseye 380 last week. It's just me here so I didn't need a huge smoker. I grill steaks, burgers and chicken more than I smoke things, so I wanted one that would sear well. But I did do an almost 8 pound pork butt overnight and it turned out perfect. Their customer service is the best I've encountered from ANY company in my 50 years. They picked up on the first ring, never put me on hold, and you could tell it was a very knowledgeable person who worked right there in Georgia. They emailed me to ask me to call them about my order before shipping. It seems my shopping address being different from my billing sent up a red flag. Possible credit card fraud. I called and within thirty seconds of me dialing, the address was confirmed. I was so happy with their service, I went back online and ordered one of their Icer 20 quart coolers. I ordered my grill on a Friday night and received it in Louisiana the following Thursday.

Just sold my green mountain grill Daniel Boone, will get the Recteq 700, do you guys know if they offer any deals on the grills for Labor Day or Black Friday?

Thanks so much for watching, greatly appreciate it. I can’t remember any price discounts but I know in the past they have done special promotions on bundles, like including different accessories, The last one they did a few months ago was included the competition cart at no additional cost and that by itself cost about $400! I think that may have been the Black Friday special last year!

Thank you very much for watching Gerard! Sorry to hear that you were unable to get a RecTeq there! The GMG is still a great option and as long as you take care of it you will have many years of cooking ahead of you! Best of luck, please let me know how you like it!

@@HarplandProductions bought the Daniel Boone wifi, got it end of 2019 and up until now i only have some surface rust spots on the legs and the drip tray warped Just a little when i used it on the highest temp. Use it at least once a week and no problems with my cooks.

Hello Gerard, Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, I enjoy hearing about other folks experiences and just because i think it doesn't mean that everyone will agree :). GMG make great products and I am glad you making good BBQ on it! I just don't think they should cost so much with the gauge of steel they are using, if they were selling the wifi version for the $400-$500 range than it would be a great deal but for me to get to the $800 -$1000 range, steel gauge and being 304 grade stainless is the most important thing. Again all of the brands i mentioned all make products that cook great BBQ but most of them use less expensive grades and thinner gauges of steel but still charge the premium price, RecTeq is one of the few that use the highest grade of 304 Stainless and 10-12 gauge steel and still come in under $1,000 If I had an unlimited budget i would prob get a Yoder or a Spitts and Pitts but those are at the $2,000+ range but last a lifetime.

Hi, you said it's made in Georgia. I just called their customer support and they said that they all made in China. Great review, btw. Just bought a smaller one, RT340. Should be enough for just two of us. Thanks!

Thanks for watching Q.B. And great to hear you are getting a new pellet grill/smoker! The small one is great also, i have 2 good friends who have that one and they both love theirs! In the video I meant to say assembled in Georgia, I clarified it in the description! The electrical components and computer are made in assembled in the US but the stainless steel handsome is made in China then final assembly is in Georgia

Just purchased mine.. And recieved. I thought they were made in GA as well... But the box is stamped with "Made in China" which is disappointing as made in GA was a major reason why I went with Rec

Hey Brandon, thanks for watching. Like most things nowadays the main components are manufactured in China but I believe final assembly done in Georgia and a lot of the internal components are manufactured and assembled in Georgia. A few companies that I know that still make pellet smokers made 100% in the US are great but they cost a couple thousand dollars more
