This 15 3/4-inch-wide "thick-body" (2 1/4 inches deep) guitar weighs just 6.60 lbs. and has a nut width of just over 1 1/16 inches and a short Chet Atkins scale length of 24 1/2 inches. Double-bound (white and black) maple body with two painted-on f-holes (with no white border), three-piece maple/ebony/maple neck with a medium profile, and unbound rosewood fretboard with 21 small frets and neo-classic inlaid pearloid thumbprint (half-moon) position markers. Black-finished headstock with inlaid pearl Gretsch "T-roof" logo. Two-layer (black on white) plastic truss-rod cover. Serial number ("41975") impressed into the top edge of the headstock. Individual Grover StaTite tuners with cloverleaf metal buttons. Two Gretsch Hi-Lo'Tron (humbucker) pickups with silver plastic surrounds and outputs of 2.81k and 2.87k. Silver-gray Lucite pickguard with Gretsch "T-roof" logo in black. Three controls (two volume on lower treble bout and one master volume on cutaway bout) plus two three-way tone selector switches on upper bass bout. Chrome "Arrow-through-G" knobs with cross-hatch pattern on sides. Gretsch "bar" bridge on ebony base and aluminum V-cutout Bigsby ("Gretsch by Bigsby") vibrato tailpiece. This guitar is in exceptionally fine (9.00) condition, with the absolute bare minimum of belt buckle wear on the back of the guitar, a few tiny marks on the edges (including one small ding on the edge of the treble horn), and a tiny amount of playing wear on the back of the neck. This super-playing guitar is one of the last examples with the thicker body (2 1/4 inches deep) and without the standby switch. Housed in the original Gretsch silver gray hardshell case with five latches and purple velvet lining (8.75).
You are right, they are not humbuckers but single coils. Great sounding pickups too.
George switched to this guitar from the Country Gentlemen in 1965. It can be seen in tne movie Help! A sweet sound! Ticket to Ride comes to mind.
thank you for sharing that quote...it was beyond beautiful
"chet atkins is rolling in his grave.."
yeah... ROCK n rolling. woooooooooo
I LOVE THIS GUITAR!!!!
Hey that tone is amazing! I love watching your videos, then look at other pages and have your videos playing in the background!
Thanks for being awesome!
these are single coils, not "humbuckers"
that was my thought, those pups are single coils, you can get similar pickups from TV Jones
Years from now, after I'm gone, someone will listen to what I've done and know I was here. They may not know or care who I was, but they'll hear my guitars speaking for me. - Chet Atkins
@DangerousBastard YES!!!!!!!! They ARE single coils!!!! I can't believe people don't know that.
i have the earlier model with the open f holes with all origional hardware except the tuners, any idea with its worth?
Are those sound holes painted on? Because they sure look like it?
@Gregorio17 yes it does help preventing feedback
Hi-Lo trons are single coils that look like humbuckers.
Can you guys do a Gretsch 6125? I have the 1959 anniversary model and knead wondering what Phil could say about it
do you need glasses (?), cause sometimes it looks like you can't see anything..
Yep, skip to 4:50 and he explains them.
Why in these days does people have there guitars almost all the way down to there knees? Whats the point?
George used this guitar?
EPIC RESPONSE LOL
Phil, i love you.
No homo.
@Swordmasteryful I play low as it's more comfortable for my arm to be straight and me to just use my wrist =]
The cherry red one? It's a Bigsby I would have thought. I doubt an FR has ever seen the light of day in FA.
yeah
ok this guitar is great and im a huge fan of the phil, but the fake holes are just horrible lol
nope. 335 with a factory bigsby
Why is it that everybody in these days have their guitars all the way down to their knees?? Whats the point of that?
this guy kind of reminds me to Jack White :P yeah!
Nope, its a maestro tailpiece. Sweet!
Baricuda!
waitwaitwait... you play a tennessean through a vox ac30 and manage to not play ANY beatles? steady on, phil... :o)
@Swordmasteryful Often its comfort (personally for me) Some people do it for looks, even though it does look retarded.
