  • The soft-spoken and very charming Brian Bolland is not only one of the greatest artists the UK has ever produced, he goes right back to the very earliest days of Forbidden Planet and created our world-famous "People Like Us" promotional image. Brian returns to Forbidden Planet TV to chat with Andrew Sumner about his just-launched JUDGE DREDD BY BRIAN BOLLAND APEX EDITION, published by our pals Keith Richardson & Michael Molcher at Rebellion! Not only does Brian discuss the genesis of this beautiful art edition, take Sumner behind-the-scenes of some of his most iconic Dredd artwork and celebrate Forbidden Planet co-owner Nick Landau's reign as 2000 AD editor Tharg, he announces a hyper-exclusive signing of the APEX EDITION from 1pm to 2pm at Forbidden Planet London, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue on Saturday May 21st!

JUDGE DREDD BY BRIAN BOLLAND APEX EDITION
Acclaimed as one of the greatest artists of his generation for his work on such titles as Camelot 3000, Batman: The Killing Joke and countless beautiful covers for DC Comics, Brian Bolland’s work on Judge Dredd helped catapult both the series and Bolland himself to international acclaim.
His incredible black & white art is showcased in this deluxe, over-sized facsimile edition featuring new high-resolution scans of his original art from 2000 AD showing Bolland’s delicate inking brushwork in unprecedented detail, as well as the titles and word balloons placed over it at the time by IPC’s art team.
This is an unmissable collection for fans of comics and of fine art.

First BB drawn Dredd was "The Mega-City 5000, Part 2" in issue No. 41 back in 1977. Great interview. :)

Thanks Gary - much appreciated, glad you enjoyed it. Prog 41, of course - very well remembered (the first person to tell me this, after watching this conversation, was Nick Landau, the commissioning Tharg himself)!

Brian is my favourite artist. I think calling him a comic artist is a slight. I think he's the best out there, including the American artists. I started reading 2000AD around the time of Starlord.

Sumner says "AMEN! I have all of those and love them, they are spectacular. The modern era art editions are not *quite* the same thing - but they are undoubtedly in the same quality wheelhouse"
