  • Name: Ms. Rosie (is her adopted name due to her friendly, sweet & bright personality)
Age: Approximately 3 years old (based on vet assessment; Doggy DNA test results for age determination in process)
Breed: Pitbull mix (Doggy DNA test results in process)
    Physical Characteristics:
    • Gender: Female
    • Size: Large
    • Weight: 45 pounds
    • Coat: White with dark and light brown patches.
    • Distinctive Markings: Brown left eye patch, brown “eyebrow” above right eye, blue and brown eyes, subtle black spots on undercoat and underbelly
    • Shedding: Minimal
Health Status: Good health, no longer pregnant (as of July 2024 veterinary visit)
History: Found in July 2024. Based on information obtained through a community board, likely discarded from an illegal breeding operation in the NC area.
Personality Traits: Super friendly with a deep eagerness to please & provide companionship to whoever is open to meeting her and accepting her in their "pack". Loyal, she forms strong bonds with familiar faces & greets them with a wagging tail every time. Rosie craves quality time & connection & adores cuddles & being close to her people. She walks like a dream on a retractable leash, listens attentively to your directions, & rides in cars with ease. She delights in chewing toys, indulging in cozy afternoon naps (often filled with adorable doggy dreams), & savors the simple pleasures of life, like a balanced diet of wet and dry dog food. Rosie LOVES Kibbles & Bits dry dog food & LOVES peanut butter. She also enjoys Pedigree chopped beef & chicken wet dog food. Milk bones are appreciated as are other meaty snacks throughout the day.
Rosie has not yet been around children so it is unknown how she would do with kids. She gets very excited to greet other dogs but hasn't yet had play time with them off a leash. Since Rosie is not yet spayed (at the time of this writing), her temporary foster mom has not yet taken her to a dog park or for play dates with other dogs.
Training: House trained & an excellent communicator, if she’s hungry she will signal you her hunger by licking her empty bowl. If she needs to go outside to relieve herself, she will notify you by standing near the door or with a paw scratch on the door. She understands the commands "No" (said firmly); "Stay"; & "Come" very well. She also appreciates hearing "Thank You" & "Good Girl" when she does something right to reinforce the behavior you want her to learn.
She began crate-training for nighttime sleeping & for when her parents go on day errands on 19 JULY 2024. If she barks or whines in her crate when initially put inside, the presence of her caretaker nearby for a few minutes of soothing talk or a firmly vocalized “No” will help her calm down. She’s a good girl who is eager to please & is highly trainable.
Behavioral Considerations: Rosie loves to be with her "pack family" & feels separation anxiety when she is apart from them. To help manage this, her foster mother recommends a home where family are consistently present so she has steady companionship & only short intervals of separation.
Rosie sometimes likes to put her front paws on you in her greetings & affectionate kisses which are heavy & can hurt if you are not used to it. Her temporary foster mom is working on training her to stop this behavior, & with her eagerness to please, her new “pack family” should continue this training.
Interests and Activities: Rosie loves to ride in the car & is noticeably quiet & calm in the process. She listens to verbal commands & hand gestures to “go in” and “come” very well. She loves a dog tennis ball. She loves the outdoors & can run fast when in a safe fenced in environment. She really enjoys tough indestructible dog chew toys of varying texture. She likes cotton stuffed toys with squeaker’s too (although she will chew it apart pretty quickly 😊). She loves to nap & do it next to her “pack family” wherever they are. She likes to be nearby, within a few feet, or at their feet, or if they would allow for it, on the living room couch next to them! She loves to kiss you wherever she can reach, a knee, a leg, an arm, a cheek. She is a very loving dog.
Additional Notes: Rosie is unafraid of vacuum cleaning & shows no food aggression with her own food or her people’s food.
Ideal Home: A home with a fenced yard & active & devoted family, with time to dedicate to her walks & playtime. She is such a loyal & loving dog, she deserves a “forever home” with people dedicated to loving her for the remainder of her life (in sickness & in health, for richer or poorer, till death do you part). A family who is deeply committed to her loving care & companionship. A “lived in” home (not a museum), where her pet parents won’t take issue with her leaving signs of her dog life (toys on the floor & very minimal shedding).
