Mia Prep Online Homeschool Program - Full Review and Demo 2023
My older girls in 9th and 11th loves the avatar, games, video section of this high school set up. Some teens won't like it, but I think most will.
Thank you for sharing! I am definitely not sure what teenagers would like, my oldest will be 10 this summer so we're still several years away!
My girls just started grades 3 and 6 in Miacademy so im excited to see you walkthrough of our potential future 😊 thanks!
Hope they like miacademy!
Very informative! Well done, thank you!
Thank you!
Great review. Thanks for the informative review.
Thank you! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Question, if you need to redo a quiz or test, is it exactly the same?
Time for learning has a test bank, so when you need to redo, it is always different.
We are believers, and I am not sure we will stick with T4L because it is so secular.
I was so psyched about this...until I realized the monthy price. 😢 10x more for HS 😱
Mia Prep that I reviewed in this video is only $40 a month (less if you pay for a year or lifetime membership up front) - their new Online High School is more expensive.
The accreditation is why it’s so much, but if you don’t need it to be accredited (elementary & middle school aren’t) then it’s only $40/month.
I’m searching for online courses this year for 10th - seems to be the going rate. Welcome to high school years being more expensive lol😂 $40 seems reasonable to me !!! Especially compared to buying each subject separately in text books or hard copy curriculums sold
@@rebeccasappif you check the online high school it's almost $300/month
Thanks for walking us through this new online curriculum. Does it require students to write essays and other papers in the lessons? I’m curious if this is part of the lesson plans and how papers are graded if so
The lessons come with PDFs to print that do include written assignments and other offline work. It will be up to the parents to grade these assignments. From what I've seen, they suggest a certain amount of gold to reward students with for completing these additional assignments, and there are guides as to how much gold to assign based on how well they completed the assignments.
do you have a video comparing acellus vs miacademy? or even BJU online with books?
Not yet but I do plan to - my list is long ha ha!
Thanks so much for the review! Is there an easy way for parents to grade the work done in the PDFs (like an answer key somewhere)?
In the parent account, if you go to the curriculum tab and click on any of the courses your child is enrolled in, on the next screen are the links to download the PDFs and answer keys. Hope this helps!
When you finish 12th do you graduate?? I'm a teen that wants to do home school instead of unschool since my single mom works?
This version of mia prep is an online homeschooling program. So your parent will still have to technically decide that you've graduated and issue your diploma/create your transcript if you're going to college. If you're looking for a program that actually issues the diploma and "graduates" you then you need an online school. I just did a video of 10 of these on my channel. Unfortunately these tend to be a bit pricier than online homeschooling programs. Cheapest option is acellus academy. Check out the video it should help.
Great video, do you have a video like this for Miacademy?
Yes I do!
I don’t understand why the change the name and charge more. It looks exactly the same!
Well the Mia Prep I review here is the non-accredited version, but yes it is more than miacademy. Some of these companies charge a bit more for high school. The Mia Prep accredited school is also likely the exact same thing, but they charge more because you'll get a diploma and transcript from a school. Similar to Power Homeschool Vs. Acellus. Same curriculum, but Acellus costs more because it can issue diplomas and transcripts.
@@AmandaMelrose I get that. I was referring to the non accredited. I have a high schooler and a middle schooler, so I don’t know if I would even be able to get them a sibling discount.
It does look like the best option I’ve found for a self paced online curriculum, but I’m still on the fence.
My daughter is way behind in math. Is there a way miacademy helps students that have fallen behind? Or would I need to invest in a tutor?
You could put her at the level she is comfortable in for math and have her do extra lessons to catch up. Or there are plenty of other good math programs that you could have her do as a supplement. I really like IXL for identifying and helping close gaps in math learning. My daughter uses prodigy for extra math practice. There are tons of resources that are less expensive than a private tutor. But if you think that could help, it's certainly another option!
Would love to hear what kids have to say
Mia Prep is rather new so I'm not sure how many high schoolers have taken it. But I do hear good things about Miacademy (the program for K - 8). My 9yo liked it best of all the online programs she's tried.
so they give you a transcript upon request?
Their actual online virtual high school will keep transcripts for students. If you're using the Mia Prep homeschool program, then you can print reports but they aren't going to issue a transcript because it's not a school. No big deal though as a homeschool parent you can create your own transcripts and there are many easy online tools to do this if you need them.
I thought it was not possible for a curriculum to be accredited.
You are correct, and if I said it was then I misspoke. However, Mia Prep does have 2 versions of their online program - the homeschool version, and the online school. Their online school is accredited
And for some reason they say "accredited curriculum" on their website, which I believe they mean that their school is accredited so the curriculum comes from an accredited school.
@@AmandaMelrose I've read that, too, on the website. They are playing fast and loose with the word "accredited."
Will this count if they wanna go bk to public school
K - 8 in the US it really shouldn't matter. In HS it gets a bit trickier. The program I cover in this video is just an online homeschooling program. Think of it like a homeschool curriculum that you just don't have to teach. If you want an actual online high school with transcripts you can transfer, Mia Prep does now offer that option as well, or there are many others out there.
