He was known as the silver fox and as Gloria Vanderbuilts son the gays were particularly interested. It would be like saying 'we mostly talked about Timothy Chalamet'. I don't think they are hinting at him actually being gay and the reason Devon wanted to talk about him. It was more likely he was simply Devons type.

Adult Sheldon isn't really a believable character to begin with as he written entirely too sassy for an autistic scientist that doesn't live for drag race. Anderson Cooper however was definitely a grey area back in the day. No pun intended.
