Top fishing mate I have been coarse fishing in Australia off and on for a fue years. Watching your video on float fishing I’ve learnt a bit more where never to old to learn I’ve mostly used the float fishing tactics for fishing for Trout with a lot of success over the years. I’ve been a Member of a fishing club for many years but even tho I’ve tryed to encourage the Members to coarse fish none of them are willing to try it I’m the only one who coarse Fishes in the Club. Coarse Fishing is still very small in Aus. Regards. Laurie from down under. Tight Lines.

Cheers John! Glad you enjoyed it. For sure, hope you get too soon :)
Another great vid and content mate 👌
Cheers Jordan!
I never bothered with rivers because my local (Aire) is narrow, dirty and fast flowing with 10 foot high overgrown and eroded banks, full of snags and very deep random holes. You'd be risking your life wading in it and even bank fishing is hard because it's so overgrown and neglected. In Bradford, even the rivers are a reflection of the local area lol.
But I can really see the appeal in fishing nice wide, gentle flowing ones like this.
I love watching your videos
Cheers George :) happy to hear it!
hopefully i can get down the river sometime soon this came very helpful thanks
You're welcome! Thanks Aston :) Hope you manage to get down there soon!
Thanks so much for sharing, I learned from the video, cheers mate :)
You're welcome Robert :) Glad it helped 👍
Loved the video. Here in Bulgaria we do float fish quite a bit. We have a few more species(apart from chub and barbel) but I mostly use maggots, worms or corn when there are lots of small fish. Have been trying spam as bait which I saw from you with mixed success. Caught an 8lbs barbel on it, however, maggots usually yield more consistent results. I agree with most of what you said I just prefer using different types of floats. It's sadly getting a lot harder to find good spots here due to overfishing(people taking home 10-15lbs of fish a day and doing it daily) and I can rarely fish the same swim twice because there are 5-10 people there the next day if they see me catch something.
Sad that people kill the fish they catch because eventually there will be nothing left to catch. Human greed!
Great video 👍
Thanks Ryan! 👍
Awesome👏
I hope to bump into you on the Severn one day. Great video 🔥
Thank you! Maybe see you on the bank!
Good video thanks
Cheers Ace! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Caught a HUGE roach while float fishing today. Was pretty happy
Professional editing right there!
Well yes, it should be. Carl is a professional videographer and editor.
You should try fishing a pin for rivers…. Way improved contact with float and smoother drift. Talking about modern pin with high grade bearings as opposed to traditional vintage bushing reels that for some reason Brit’s seem to prefer 😮
Great video would love to see more freewlining spam for chub and barble
Thank you! Ah that would be cool, I'll see what I can do. Love catching chub on the surface on bread :D

Love ur vids
Cheers Billy!
Nice video gave me more understanding about river fishing and all that stuff but the last time i went was in 2019 and caught Little spieces like perch roach and the name of the river is chertsy in London 😁
Great video
Cheers TJ!
Yes carl we do call floats bobbers in the usa. P.S love your vids
When you want to look for a good video on how to float fish before this channel was made it was hard to find one with good sound and video quality and you could actually see how they were making the rig or they weren't giving you good tips do you would have to find many videos. Here it is the all in one tutorial! Keep it up and you have some great videography skills! Well done!
Thank you so much! Glad the video could help!!!
Thank you for that Carl, to do that kind of fishing i would have to drive at least 3+hrs, and it would be a bit risky cos i haven't done that kind of fishing, very good video again 👍👍
You're welcome James :) Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you get to try it one day 👍
nice video bro i love it
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you mate!
Hello my friend, your vídeos are a joy to see. Have a great day my friend.
Ahh thanks JP. Appreciate it. You too :)

Me gusto el video, yo aquí en España, siempre pesco con flotador.
¡Me alegro de que te haya gustado el vídeo!
Hi Carl that vid u did with snagged bro was sick
Thank you mate! Glad you enjoyed it!
My kind of fishing technique, too.
Do you have any tips on getting fish to bit because my local lake was infected with a virus and it’s only recently been stocked again because the virus is gone
I love your videos they help me catch more fish but I can’t find any more rivers to go to
Thanks Renato, glad you enjoy them!
Question if the day: have you ever fished the wandle a chalk stream in london if so any tips or good stretches you know of?
It is a very nice way to fish in flowing river.
It sure is :)
At the slow down part, do you you pull your float up the river when you bring your rod back to being straight or do you keep it at down stream
Hi mate, I'm thinking of doing some river fishing this year and really looking to get a decent rod and reel for floating the river never done it before would love to have a recommendation im looking at diawa rods, or would my carp rods be okay? Not really something I've done before but really keen on having a crack
Hey Carl, why don't you use groundbait for river instead of hard bait for feeding? Is hard bait better in river than the groundbait?
Please could you make a small guide on how to fish large rivers, I had only ever really fished small rivers like the Kennet and Avon, so when I turned up to the Thames it was most certainly a lot harder to locate the fish and read the water
I will sugest river ivel for predators like chub and big pike an hope this sorted a problem
Can’t wait for Christmas my children have got me your book just waiting for Santa to let me have it 😂
Hahaha, yay! Cheers Joe!
Does it matter if my float is really big or do I just counter it with weights? I’m going to try fishing the Tyne
cool video i did not know you love flote fishing on rivers
Love it! Glad you enjoyed it Sam!
@@fishingtutorials thanks
You're welcome :)
Day 50 of asking how to set the drag on your reel
Ha ha
Why not find out for yourself
Turn the spinny thing on front of yoh reel
25%, of line strength, ( I read somewhere)
It depends on what you are fishing for and what line you are using plus the quality of the drag system and how stout of a rod you are using also makes a difference. Generally, you want to set it tight enough that larger fish (of whatever you intend to fish for) can pull on the drag when fighting back but not smaller fish. If you are fishing for something with a soft mouth like a carp, set the drag a bit looser than that because the hook could rip out of the fishes mouth easier.
Hi Carl, very nice video, 5*, have you tried fishing with a float and CenterPin reel? Thanks to L.
Cheers Libor! I have :) but the fixed spool reel allows me to fish further out
Great video as always, what are the reels your using?
Cheers Paul! Here I'm using the Guru Aventus 3000 reel :)
Such an exciting method, it tends to lends itself to chub but what a buzz when we are lucky enough to catch a really good size dace ! Good clear professional video , thoroughly enjoyable. This is what mainstream fishing programmes should be like , great narration and instructions . We want presenters like yourself not "entertainers" the management think we want !
Thank you mate, I massively appreciate that.
Are you not Entertained? ;)
Hay quá bạn
Cảm ơn!
What’s your favourite lake for carp
If you love float fishing rivers I’d really recommend you invest in a centre pin, it elevates the experience to a new level!
what’s a good river float reel and what reel was you using
I was using the Guru Aventus 3000 reel here - they are very high quality and expensive as a result. If you don't need one so advanced, you could take a look at the A-class reels which are still very decent and work well as an alternative :)
Hey Carl, what is the name of the 'bait stand' that you're using in this video? I would like to float fish on rivers the coming months and I was actually looking for a solution to have my bait with me.
Thanks
It's often referred to as a 'bait waiter' and underneath I screwed in a bank stick :)
@@fishingtutorials Thanks a lot Carl!
You're welcome Nils :)
hi Carl, with the avon float, how do you attach it to the line?, i saw no holes unless i missed something
You use 3 float rubbers and slide thos onto the line before anything else then slide the top rubber onto the float then the middle one then the last one
@@Hoshmagosh87 ah ok thx bud
@@brettsfishingdiaries also merry Christmas
At the start you said the depth is fairly even - how do you know that though? We aren't plummeting everywhere, are you looking at the geography features?
If the surface of the water is fairly flat and steady, the bottom is likely to be flat too. If you see boiling water and choppy swirling currents the bottom is likely be up and down, creating the currents. ;)
Me and kids are off down the river tomorrow 😊
Yay! How did you do? :)
@@fishingtutorials Lucas had a 1lb roach and a small chub
I had absolutely nothing 😂
Ahh lovely!! At least not a blank :D
I wish I had a decent river to fish nearby. A lot of the stretch near me are smothered with duck weed, overgrown, or under expensive club ownership.
Sorry to hear that, it's a shame when club prices are super expensive :(
On the bright side, I recently joined a group of volunteers working to clear stretches of it. It's going to be a long process but I'm hopeful.
I'm fortunate there's some good waters nearby to fish. They aren't free but there's some stunning fish if you can find them.
What brand/model of float do you use?
I don’t have a specific preference but Premiere and Drennan floats have worked great for me :)
Lovely chubbley.😆 I love echding a slick float Through on the River nice style fishing Carl .I don't do a nuff.off
18:18 u didnt show and explain us what is this bait, looks like a dhough boilie or something this pellet🧐
It's a hair rigged piece of fake spam. I explain what it is at 18:43 :)
How's using a swivel on a float rig news to someone that's been fishing for so long.
Why are you float fishing flowing waters with spinning tackle?
How much is a dayticket from Woody's?
I think it was £5 or £10 last time I was there!
You should come to Bangladesh for float fishing.. We're best at it.
And also many different species of carp.
That would be cool!
@@fishingtutorials You're welcome to come anytime . It would be an honour to fish with an angler like you 🙂
Thank you, that's kind!
Love the videos Carl!! But I have a question I got an email from CZcams saying I was nominated for a gift by the channel I wanted to know whether this was a scam or it is genuine. Keep making the great videos thanks Theo
Sorry Theo, those comments are from scammers :( Thank you! Will do. All the best :)
Thanks for the tips, but I'll stick to the lakes
Hi
This was filmed in September, come on post more vids
Sorry dude I’m trying my best.
Magic word seweryn sommer??
I appreciate it may not be obvious what goes into the type of film-making I do. It is not a vlogging style (like Alex does) which tends to be much easier to edit, and can turn around quickly. Coupled with running a business solo (now that Alex's help has gone) there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to keep the channel going :) Alex used to help plan, and film, and edit half of the films and massively help out with the graft. This year has been one of working out how to do it on my own which I'm now on top of. I've thankfully spent the last two months employing another person, training them up, which will massively help with the work load and keep both channels regularly posting videos. However I will never just post videos for the sake of it for regularity, it will always matter to me that quality always comes before quantity :)
Did not know there where day Tickets for rivers. I thought fishing licence and you can fish anywhere on rivers.
The fishing license you need to fish, but does not mean you can fish anywhere unfortunately, except for designated 'free' stretches of some rivers. An additional day ticket is often needed for lots of stretches, or you have to join a club. In my area there's almost no river day ticket places to fish. most of the stretches around me are club waters.
