The first season with the San Marino league playable plus 200 youth rating would have auto generated some much better young players than you'd expect
Yep. Ive seen that happen a few times when you suddenly make a non-playable league playable in a save. Suddenly there are some 25-ish year old regen players who just now exist that are easily worth 100M
Bang on the money! Within those 15 teams they probably all had 22 class players equalling about 330 top players
That's what I thought. Also these might even have been greyed out players since for some matches there weren't even any goalscorers shown even thought they won like 5-0

Please, everyone remembers how dominant they were with Ugolini in 2050s and 60s. Benedettini wasn't quite the same in 70s and 80s. Ugolini looks like an absolutely insane striker with over 200 caps and 160 goals...
Do a save where one nations has the perfect attack (lw,rw,cam and striker) and another the perfect defence(lb,cb,rb and gk). And see who does better.
It's the added teams causing the issue in 2021, the game has to populate them and it uses the country settings to generate the players, so with 15 teams your going to have a bigger bell curve, which means more good players. It's not so much a bug as it is the game doing what it's supposed to do within the modified parameters of the save. I've run into similar issues with experiments in the past as well, and if I remeber correctlyt, GoldenFM ran into the same thing when he modified all the African countries a couple of FM's ago.

I enjoyed that! I'd love to know what went 'wrong' in the first season though. Could it have been related to the addition of the league structure adding in extra OP players?
I am doing the San Marino challenge on FM14. Right now we are 13 years in and we just reached the highest ranking at 7th. But that's because in our first ever appearance in a big competition we came 3rd in the World Cup in one of the strangest runs ever. To be honest it was crazy lucky and we won't be repeating it any time soon.
The San Marino club is dominating both in Italy and is one of the best teams in Europe. But I also added 2 more managers in the San Marinian league (Libertas and Juvenes) to raise the status of the league and start producing some talents. This has not happened yet with the best player to come through having the potential ability to become a Serie B player. Still there are 3 teams now that are professional and the majority of the other teams operating at semi professional status.
Biggest problem of course is that I have to wait for 7-9 years for any decent players that have dual nationality to finally accept playing for our national team. And of course the foreigners playing in our league don't ever get the nationality of San Marino.
Neat stuff Tom. Getting San Marino too 10th is still an awesome achievement. There was so unlucky 2 Euro Finals and a World Cup 3rd Place Finish is amazing nonetheless.
As a Sammarinese who plays football manager I also try this experiment without managing to have the national team winning a European Championship or a World Cup. I think it's something impossibile also for Fm

I have tried this experiment a couple of times. The hassle is many of the better players especially early on declare for Italy.
Tom please do one where you swap the top 50 players with nationalities lower down. Would love to see Mbappe and Haaland playing for Andorra and Eritrea

I wonder how much would change if the teams in san marino had perfect facilities aswell. would likely help create better players. and get more out of hte potential.
Make a video where you swap every players club and country randomly and see how the football world looks 50 years in the future

I know what happened here the game produced regens immediately for the leagues clubs, I’m doing a fantasy league save in Latvia/Gibraltar and immediately the national side was made decent by the domestic leagues fake players

I think that population is also a factor overlooked here. You created an A class country but the pool of players is limited. Maybe try this again but with a different country but with higher population. Bangladesh for instance. Huge population but low ranking.
San Marino only has 39 players in the game, so all players from the national team can be grey players... and they are around de youth rating as rating... so all around the 200. and after the first youth recruitment they have "real" players
so i think this is the idea of the first, and if you add players to every team they are around the 200 rating but old.

Off topic but Personally I just hope defensive tatics work in fm23 im sick of being punished for not wanting to play attacking football or not having the ability to do so some of the best managers like jose mourinho diego simeone and antonio conte dont work in game and are doomed to fail at every club they are at. Its so bad that i have seen spurs in the bottom half of the table more often then not as they 80% of the time hire a defensive manager its such a big problem that i have seen spurs relegated twice form the premier league im not asking for defensive tactics to be broken but i want them to at least work and it would be nice and more realistic if more lower league teams played this way aswell and not always have 90% pass completion but most importantly i think teams should get better results playing this way against better teams or teams with much higher defensive lines
Yeah, I think it’d be awesome to route 1 or counter attack as a genuinely implemented manner of play.

How did Victor San Marino get on in the Italian lower divisions?
It's always been there.
Originally there was a team San Marino Calcio that played in the Italian system (even managed to reach the third tier), eventually it ended up disappearing and years later a new team was created as a spirit succesor (this one being Victor San Marino).
Besides it's not that weird... There are several Welsh teams in the English system, the teams from Liecthenstein play in the Swiss system, there's an Andorran team playing on the Spanish system (even managed to get promoted to the second tier this year) and then there's Monaco in the French top flight.

How to add population ?
If you want to help San Marino in a different way, here's an idea for a video, or videos. I'm giving you a list of four football clubs from around Europe.
A. S. D. Victor San Marino (in the Italian league system)
FC Balzers (In the Swiss league system)
FC Andorra (In the Spanish league system)
FC Büsingen (also in the Swiss league system)
Now, these teams have a peculiarity about them: They compete in a league that is not their own country's league. Just like Monaco that has a club but it competes in the french league, all these teams are located in San Marino, Germany, Andorra and Liechtenstein, but compete in the leagues of other countries. However, unlike Monaco that has a ton of money to be competitive, these teams are just small and play in the lower leagues. So, how about you give these clubs the best facilities, the best stadium, and the most amount of money possible, and we see how they manage to develop, and if they manage to do what Rapid Vienna managed during WW2, by being a team that wins the national league of a country other than its own.

and they are granted a spot in the UECL first qualifying round every year due to Liechteinstein not having a league system

in my games scotland usually produce world class talents once in a couple years too, which is really unrealistic

Oh look another San Marino save, how many of these saves are FM CZcamsrs going to do? Seriously it's either San Marino or Gibraltar, if you are going to do something different do something different.
The only FM youtuber who doesn't do this is Kev, and that's only because he things he's the best Football manager in FM history.
