Episode 96 of Love At First Scent
This was a CZcams Live broadcast streamed on Saturday 30th May 2020. Unscripted. Unedited. Unrehearsed.
In this episode, I covered the brand new Amouage Interlude Black Iris Man (or Interlude Man Black Iris, depending on who you ask) composed by Pierre Negrin.
This release is significant as it is the first perfume from the brand following the departure of their much-loved Creative Director Christopher Chong. In the video, I delve into the context from which this perfume emerges, and I also provide some info on the brand's new "Chief Experience Officer", Renaud Salmon. As it happens, Monsieur Salmon was watching the broadcast and joined the discussion, so make sure you enable 'live chat' if you'd like to see what he wrote.

    Here's the blotter update...
As Black Iris reaches its drydown, it becomes more and more similar to the original, displaying that familiar contrast between the furious heat of the agar smoke and the heavier, more tranquil sensibility of the resins. Almost every single time when I smelt the two 'blind', I was able to distinguish one from the other: the original had that roughness, that edginess I mention in the video. But, I confess, there was at least one time when I couldn't tell them apart, which tells you how closely related to each other they are. My final words on Black Iris echo what I said at the end of the broadcast: as a flanker, this is excellent. And I hope it bodes well for the future of the brand.
    Thanks again for watching.

Excellent review; definitely intrigued and will be seeking this out. Thank you Persolaise! p.s. your ending scene where you block out the camera always makes me feel like I’m being suddenly snuffed out with a rag soaked in chloroform 😅😅😅

Oh no! I'll try to think of some better way of ending the episodes. Or maybe you want to be sent to your slumbers by my scented musings!
Let me know what you think of the Amouage, when you try it.

Persolaise Perfumes haha all in good fun :) Might I suggest maybe sliding a black card up or down in front of the lens rather than having an object ominously coming at the viewer? 😸

      @Persolaise  Před 4 lety +1

Good idea, but that’s exactly what I try to do. It’s a black object I slide in from the side 😂

I love interlude man. I think it satisfies my Catholic and Omani love for incense, haha. I do think Amouage chose to make this flanker due to the original's popularity. BUT I feel the Iris idea totally seems to be the brain child/or idea of Pierre Negrin. I know many perfumers when making a perfume have many ideas with their work, and ways that they can take their original idea and elevate it or push it in another direction. I really do believe this was something Pierre Negrin had thought of when making the original Interlude but gathered dust in his notebook until Amouage came knocking on his door again. I may be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if I wasn't.
I hope all is well with you and your loved ones during these times Monsieur Persolaise 👍🏼 all the best.

Jura, maybe we like Interlude for the same reasons. And you never know: perhaps the brand did allow itself to be led by Negrin's nose.
Wishing you all the best too!

I have a feeling that we will be seeing more and more of Amouage through social media promotion. Will be curious to see if they can hold their distinctiveness amongst the ocean of niche marketed releases.

I'm really excited to see what this new era of Amouage brings us. That being said, I have yet to try any of the new fragrances after Imitation Man (Which I love!) but I want to. Do you by any chance have one recommendation of what I could sample? I could purchase decants of some through ebay but they're not cheap lol

    Love your videos.
Do you think that the magnetic cap version is way too diluted than the non-magnetic cap? Because I looking to get a bottle of interlude man "the original one" and gold man. I'm into a more powerful fragrance.

Interlude Man should be renamed into Oregano Man. The vomit inducing stench of oregano is pronounced throughout the entire longevity of this disaster of a fragrance. Can hardly wait when Amouage will add garlic powder to its wall of “masterpieces”.

Thanks very much for watching. There is indeed a strong herbal note running throughout the scent. I personally find it part of the composition's appeal.
