The only Falcon I know of is Max's legendary "Pursuit Special"

Ash 928 the GTR was banned because it was just so much better than everything else in the Australian touring cars (now called V8 Supercars) at the time. It's awd and stupidly quick acceleration and braking made it the fastest car on the track in the dry and unbeatable in the wet.

Greg Whitbread the GTRs in 92 were severely limited by the governing body of racing in Australia.
Boost limited/extra weight etc so a fair bit slower in the straights. The Sierras were pushing near 600Hp
In 90 and especially 91 they were unstoppable though.

Hugely underrated my ass, the Sierra is one of the most succesfull touring cars ever made:
      [series wins: years]
      - Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC): 1988, 1989
      - Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM): 1988
      - Japanese Touring Car Championship (JTCC): 1987, 1988
      - AMSCAR series: 1988, 1989, 1990
      - Nissan Mobil 500 Series : 1987
      - New Zealand Touring Car Championship: 1989, 1990, 1992
      - British Touring Car Championship (BTCC): 1990
      - Australian Endurance Championship: 1990
Even in rally where it was not a suitable vehicle due to RWD layout against AWD Lancias and Mazdas, the car still managed to win on tarmac! Winner on the 1988 Corsica Rally, and in 1987 and 1988 on the British Rally Championship and Spanish Rally Championship. 1988 Tour de Corse too.
At its peak on circuit racing, only the M3 could hope to win against it. You have to be either a troll or someone terribly misinformed to call it "underrated."

Bare in mind the Sierra was first designed in 1982! The body shell itself never changed - although rouse and johnson both broke the rules by cutting away the floor pan and welding it back in an inch or so in the shell. The engine was a 2.0 cast iron block (200 and 205 blocks) based on the pinto engine first released in the RS2000 MK2 escort. The Cosworth were commisioned in 83 to product a race engine with most of the R&D work done in an "xr4" in the 85 BTCC season. The RS500 version had a bigger turbo (again rouse and johnson cheating there (long story) and 8 injectors. So here was your road car designed in 82, with a performance version in 86 (RS Cosworth) and the RS500 in 87. In race trim in the early days they would put out about 320hp, but as time got on the HP grew and grew with trick heads, higher boost, better internals etc - but still in a chassis originally designed in 1982. FFWD to 1992. Who got pole? DJ. OK 91 say a syline on pole but a sierra got pole 87,88,89,90,92. By now the chassis was well out dated. Compare the GTR with the cossie entering the chase. The GTR composed. The cossie always looked like it was on the point of a massive accident. Compare that to the R32 that was designed and built in 88. I think they used the RB20 engine although I'm not sure. 4 wheel drive too. Massive advantage. If the R32 was only allowed to run in RWD things may have been different but we will never know. The cossie for me will always be king. Ford ruined everything with the escort cosworth using the Saphire Cosworth floorpan and running gear with a mk5 shell - but thats another subject entirely. I owned a R32 in 2004 and a 3 door cossie in 2005. The R32 always felt planted on the road, the cossie was a handful on unfamiliar roads, and I'd fucking shit myself if I took it out in the wet. I sold that and bought a pulsar GTR - full stripped out, two seats, cage, 400bhp. To date the best car I've ever owned - although out of them em them cossie always made me smile. PEople arguing over things, get over it. Its evolution. The cossie had to conceed to newer technology. Same reason the MK2 escort isnt in the wrc!
What I'm not excited about is the new 4x4 Focus. It might have an RS Badge, but its no Cosworth.

When you look back at this race I think it really shows the skill of DJ. From what I've read from the likes of Andy Rouse and Steve Soper, the Sierra's weren't the easiest of cars to drive quickly and neatly in the dry, let alone the wet, but here's Dick Johnson absolutely taking the fight to the R32's in very wet and greasy conditions. Just look at how he struggles with traction coming out of Forest Elbow @0:31.
I've often wondered who built the fastest Sierras. Rouse, Eggenburger or DJR. From the evidence of this video, I'd be inclinded to say that it was DJR who built the fastest Sierras.

That's because the power delivery of a group A Cossie consists of nothing, nothing, turbo, BIG TURBO, crash barriers. I can only go off the Cossie mod for Assetto Corsa as I was effectively saying, the torque curve is effectively a cliff which means unless you can keep the turbo spooled at all times, it's almost impossible to drive it without wrestling it and controlling the slides. And as you can imagine this is even worse in the wet.
The big advantage the Cossie had over the R32 though is that it was much lighter because it didn't have the 4 wheel drive or steering.

John Bowe used to describe the Sierra's as difficult to drive - the handling was okay, if you were able to keep the power on, but if you were off throttle coasting and then got back on it, diabolical. And, word is, Johnson's had better handling then the rest of the Sierra pack, because of the work done locally.

What I’m saying is that if the GTR had been run in the same spec as it did in 1991 the ford would’ve had no chance anywhere, but none of that matters because the GTR still kicked the fords arse anyway in 1992 😜

Ahh, Godzilla back in the day. One of them many reasons why these sportscars and its bloodline are legendary. It’s number of championships, consecutive official wins, lap time records, 1/4 awd records, 1 mile, you name it. It’s basically the most successful Japanese sportscar line date. Other cars can just dream about those achievements.
And what made the GT-R BNR32 very popular thus earned the name “Godzilla”? Because it was handicapped, banned, and changed grp A rule books. It was very controversial, and simply too dominating back in the early 90s.

The Skyline GTR got 'Nutered' just so the Competition could Compete with it- it had to carry more weight & Lower Boost Psi
-It was Decades Ahead of the V8's Tecnology Wise! The Sierra must have had Similar Power : Weight to stay ahead of the GTR which was Handicapped!! -Cheers👍

This clip reminds me when the aging Ford escort was dueling the new Audi quattro in the rally scene, the car was spectacular to watch but of course it isn't that competitive anymore

2.6 litre, six cylinder, twin turbo, 4 wheel drive vs 2 litre 4 cylinder single turbo RWD.
    Add a wet track....
You also need to remember the Skyline was a much newer car. Technology moves on.
