- The Arutunian Trumpet concerto is one of the most performed pieces for the trumpet. Each year I have student s who work on the Arutunian trumpet concerto and every year they all seem to suffer the same challenges.

I like your pleasant and helpful approach. Great playing too.
Thanks Bill
Absolutely beautiful Phill!!! Seriously...wow!
Thanks Jon
Wonderful tutorial!
I love how you showed a process to your approach. I love your take on active silence. You could do a video on that concept alone.
Really looking forward to the next video. Thanks Phill!
Thanks TL. Glad you’re enjoying these videos.
I have another question on the next movement - that third phrase involving f, b flat, a, middle c, f, g sharp, how do you play it? Slurred, or legato tongued? If slurred, how do you get it so smooth?
P.S. could you do a video on other parts of the concerto? It would be really helpful as I'm performing the piece in three weeks
🙂
What mic do you use and how much does it cost 😯. Sounds great
Also I didnt realize semiquavers were a thing. I have heard of quavers from a Welsh clinician (Philip Harper, hes epic), but in 🇺🇸 we just say 8ths and 16ths.
Hi Justin in this video I'm using the Lewitt MTP440. Its a good mix. Not my best for trumpet but its what I've been using to teach because it's small.
I do use this on pop gigs though.
Great playing. Do you have any supplementary exercises that students can do to help cover the technical demands of this section and other sections of the piece?
Thanks Rick.
That's a really good idea, I'll put a video together for you.
Do you have any advice for the next movement? In the final phrase, there is a massive jump between a high g and middle c; no matter how hard I try, I can’t get that c. How do I bridge the gap between the two notes?
Hi Alexander, good question.
Check the tuning on your G above the stave. If your miss pitching the C in the stave chances are you are sharp on the G.
Get the G and the phrase leading up to it in tune and I'm sure the C will be much easier.
