My great great grandmother was born into slavery illegally on a plantation of 7-13 slave in Mississippi in 1899. She was able to tell me her experience of being liberated at 7 in 1906. She died when I was 12 in 2007. Note: Yes she was still born a slave even though the emancipation proclamation was signed in 1863. Think about it, was the union army actually going to the remote rural south to free a plantation of 13 slaves?

We know..im a veteran too...but that means that ALL of the black veterans who didnt get them back then should..but that also means that the benifits that could have helped out those soldiers and their familys way back then have been missed....so they would give them to the next of kin or any other direct survior making the money much less useful overall...
No that wasn’t his argument. He used the something simple that was done like the GI bill still excludes black Americans when it was actually executed. That example was used because people seem to have a hard time recognizing the injustice of slavery and make excuses for it, yet something as recent as the GI bill showed there was still discrimination and disenfranchisement, even for those that servers this country. The government can green light reparations if it wanted to, but they won’t, not because of any of the excuses they give. The truth is they are ok with paying for everything and everyone else, but not it’s black citizens

The GI Bill and benefits that came along with being a soldier helped buy homes, get education, start nest eggs for these White veterans. Black veterans were left out because of racism. Marcel's grandfather could have been in a totally different place in life if he was given the same benefit as everyone else, for the same job he did. That's not a handout. It's called being fair and equal
