  • What's up, folks! I'm back with another beautiful ABBA song, and this time we listen to the emotional and rich story of "Slipping through My Fingers," a song that speaks to the way time, experiences, and memories can take on new dimensions and connotations as time passes, people age, and circumstances change. So join me for a beautiful song from ABBA's 1981 album The Visitors. Cheers!

I am going through a personal loss right now (as you know), and while I know this song is about a mother/child relation, it is causing extreme emotions in me right now. It evokes feelings of time moving on, getting older, and experiences with things you do with the people (and animals) you love are going to end one day. 😭😭😭

Adam, I want to take this opportunity here to thank you
for everything you have done in
bringing Matt the entire ABBA discography,
allowing us to share this unique journey as a community of fans
      And in particular,
this song that touches the intimate fibers of emotion,
it also makes me cry every time I listen to it (and this was no exception)
I also have a personal history with difficulties,
my daughter abandoned me several years ago
(she will be turning 32 in a few days, I am already 65).
As the lyrics of the song say,
I could not freeze those moments,
but I do keep them as a memory with love and emotion in the bottom of my heart
As I once read, sorrows, when shared, are alleviated
I send you a big hug and a lot of strength

@@eduardooscar309 man that was a difficult read and I'm sorry you are going through your own trials and tribulations. Life ain't easy, but music can help just by knowing others are also going through it in some way.
This song and "In My Life" by The Beatles both bring out this similar edition in me, about time passing, losing loved ones, etc...

      Thanks for your words Adam.
music brings us closer and helps us cope with our difficult moments
      you named
      "In my life"
      memorable John Lennon song
THE BEATLES have been my youth group
And just recently, in another post (today Matt is going to kill me)
I remembered that today is the 66th anniversary of the day John Lennon and Paul McCartney met.
and also the 52nd anniversary of the marriage of Agnetha and Björn
What a day full of emotions!

This was inspired particularly by Agnetha and Bjorn's realisation that their child was growing up, and they had missed so much of it in their crazy days in the studio and touring, despite trying not to.
Agnetha in particular always felt the pressure from the industry when what she wanted to do first and foremost was to be a good mother. You can, as ever, head that pain in the song.
Any parent who listens to this song cannot help but feel a lump in their throat. It's a universal.

  • @eduardooscar309
    @eduardooscar309 Před rokem +16

Normally I don't give so much importance to the lyrics in a song, I prioritize its melody and voices
and ABBA is a specialist in that, in fantastic melodies and incomparable voices
But in this particular case, the lyrics are so moving that it overpowers the music,
which is why it's my favorite song on the album.
And Agnetha's vocal performance is one of her best and one of my favorites, along with
S.O.S., I've been waiting for you, My love my life, Thank you for the music, The winner takes it all
and the one from her album return "Don´t shut me down" they do what I call the "Seven Wonders of Agnetha"
I know it was a coincidence, but just today you do
    "Slipping through my fingers"
it's Agnetha and Björn's wedding anniversary
They were married on July 6, 1971.
curiously also, on July 6, but in 1957,
John Lennon and Paul McCartney met, at the ages of 16 and 15 respectively,
the composer duo of The Beatles and the most iconic in the history of music
(and I was close to being born, within the fifth month of my parents' pregnancy)

This is one of my faves, a beautiful ode to the passing of time and savouring those special moments of realisation that the children will grow up.
Abba did adult pop like no one eles.

  • @flemmingkristoffersen1896

Another great track from this album! Agnetha sings it with so much passion and feeling and you are not in doubt that she means and have felt every word and emotion in the song! Her and Björn being parents to two small children at the top of their carreer must have meant so much deprivation and guilt of not being there for them! This is also the reason why Agnetha in the last years of ABBA and afterwards didn´t like to travel and do promotion, but instead prefered to stay with her kids!
The next - and last song on the original Visitors album - is one of my favourites! Frida sings it so beautifully - and in fact this is the only ABBA song where only one is singing - at all! Not even Agnetha on backing vocals! It is a song I played a lot when I lost my parents 6 years ago within only a few months. It is so moving and emotional - and I even consider it to be played at my own funeral - many years from now I hope! Because it is both sad and moving at the same time! And promise me to hear it to the final tones og the song - it is so moving and in a way a metaphore of ABBAs exit - for now!

After the 'Mamma mia' musical bursted in the late '90s and the 2008 smash movie this song became a special parental anthem that caused lots of emotion and some tears to the ones that watched those secenes esp the one with Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyferd.

This is the link to the performance of "Slipping through my fingers"
live on the TV special "Dick Cavett meets ABBA":
    czcams.com/video/avPTdJh2j6s/video.html
It is particular how in the recording Agnetha changes the intonation in the second verse,
pretending it was her daughter's voice
But in real life, Agnetha and her daughter Linda recorded an album together
(in ABBA times, when Linda was still a child).
And a few years later, Agnetha also made another album with her second son Cristian
This song became very famous in the movie "Mamma Mia"
played by Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, as mother and daughter,
in a central scene of the movie
    P.D: what a nice surprise !!!
to see that the subtitles and automatic translation option was enabled in the video settings
Now I could enjoy your words much more, and understand you much better

Fantastic track and sentiment. How good is it not these days when it is safe to admit that this is not only a maternal feeling and sensation but also a paternal one. As a father of two (daughter, 34, and son, 24), there were children at home for 30 years and suddenly they were both gone. Then the "project family" ended and myself and their mother did not have left the feelings that once brought us together. We now both live with new partners. (Keep an Eye on Dan?)
However, it is then very comforting to be able to take my daughter to my favorite city (Berlin) for her 35th for 5 days in November and deep-dive into the cultural treasures of this metropol . I can barely wait.

Before the weekend begins, I bring up new statistics on the ABBA playlist
The first thing is to say that this song literally flew,
“Slipping through my fingers” surpassed 1000 views in just one and a half days
And the most important thing is that it has allowed many of us to share life situations here.
Life itself, like this very special ABBA song about the lives of two of them
In addition, the outstanding numerical data is that "Ring Ring" exceeded 3000 views
And it comfortably leads all your music videos, with more than 500 views on the following
Logically, she is benefited by starting the ABBA playlist,
But this also indicates how the number of your subscribers grew (+2500)
And since many of them have turned to the music of ABBA,
That here has grown enormously in relation to the first half of this voyage
And now I go through the albums, their accumulated and averages
“The Visitors” with only 8 songs and still missing one song,
already surpass "Waterloo" (which has 11)
    the Top5 is:
    Super Trouper
    Voulez vous
    The Album
    Arrival
    ABBA
While for average views per song the order is different:
    The Album
    Super Trouper
    Voulez vous
    Arrival
    The Visitors (only 8 songs)
See you in next, the last song of "The Visitors" album
(and after these, the bonus track and singles from 1982)
my best regards, as always, from
    Buenos Aires, Argentina

Another comment, in these case for the statistics
I start with the albums, their accumulated and averages
Super Trouper is now the one with the most views,
and together with Voulez Vous they exceeded 15,000, while Ring Ring exceeded 10,000
    the new order is:
    Super Trouper
    Voulez vous
    The Album
    Arrival
    ABBA
    Ring Ring
    Waterloo
    singles and bonus tracks
    The Visitors (only 7 songs)
    Voulez Vous (remix)
while for average views per song the order is different:
    The Album
    Super Trouper
    Voulez vous
    Arrival
    The Visitors (only 7 songs)
    singles and bonus tracks
    ABBA
    Ring Ring
    Voulez Vous (remix)
    Waterloo
(The first three albums with +1500 average views, the last three groups with less than 1000 average views)
Now, doing an analysis of the songs:
only three have less than 500 views
    48 exceed 1000 views
21 of them exceed 1500 views
6 of them exceed 2000 views
And 1 of them exceeds 2500 views
the updated order of your ABBA Top20
(with its placement '#' in the Top25 of all your musical reactions) is:

    What a great pleasure!
You did an special reaction today of ABBA songs most emotionals
    "Slipping through my fingers" (1981)
is in my opinion the most testimonial and experiential song by ABBA
This lyrics are very deep about the growth of a son and how those moments of time go by day by day The guitarist songwriter Björn writes it about her 7/8 year old daughter, and her ex wife Agnetha sings it with specialy feeling of mother
Sometimes it is related to "The winner takes it all", because it has as protagonists Björn & Agnetha
But there are differences between the two stories:
    1) that is the figurative story about a divorce (although probably with parts of the reality that Agnetha & Björn lived), but this is a story inspired by the daily lives of parents
    2) this does not arouse the morbidity of the leading couple, it is an intimate story of parents and children that generates tenderness and nostalgia
    3) perhaps this one does not have the usual catchy refrains of ABBA or a powerful melody like that, here its melody is soft, cared for and intimate, it accompanies without invading the wonderful emotional interpretation of Agnetha, that always shines much more when the song asks to express the feelings
In short, it's a beautiful song by melody and interpreter lyrics, it touches the most intimate fibers of emotion and nostalgia, it's my favourite of the album "The Visitors" and is in my Top 20 of all ABBA songs
These is a live perfomance of ABBA, in the TV special "Dick Cavett meets ABBA" filmed in Sweden 1981, and ABBA premieres two songs, these was one of those
And also is one of the two songs that ABBA recorded in spanish:
    "Se me está escapando"
I really enjoy our ABBA Journey
and I'm waiting always for these
