Yuri may not be the nicest guy, but you have to respect his last moments. He knew he wasn't gonna make it once the door went up, but hell if he wasn't gonna save his sons
All he cared that his sons survived. Had that redeemable quality.
This is why we always get the Hollywood protagonist doing everything to save his family BS troupe. This is why WWZ failed every movie has to have dad saving his family.
@@roahnosh You have 28 weeks later as an opposition to a guy saving his family. But to be honest, most dudes that are parents will indeed sacrifice themselves for their kids.
The version I saw he dies with his kids. The girlfriend makes it on the ship and she flips him the bird.
@@spateri728doesn't she flip him off in both versions?
0:06 He knew he was not going to survive. He just stayed calm and gave a warning to other people. He is gotta be one of the chill and most respectful people.

Buddhist monks are the one group of people i respect the most
The truth about life is that we're here to die. And we can learn as much as we can to make our life's and everyone's life's better. They know this is not the end. That's peace. The rest of the world is scared to die.
is a symbolism for the seven trumpets, like a last message
@@LG141602 Always be prepared. Never worry. Live your life to the fullest as you only have one life on this planet.
By far the most memorable scene is that monk on the peak of the mountain and the tsunami washing him away.
That was the portrait of the film in many countries.
Honestly, that scene with Yuri was so unexpected. They could have given us a satisfied death of an antagonist, but instead they decided to show his humane side in his final moments, which totally caught me off guard and made me kinda feel bad for him and his sons. His death left a huge impression on me, even after more than a decade.
How is Yuri an antagonist? He did everything he could, he only had a ticket for him and his kids and not his cheating trophy girlfriend. There was nothing he could do for John or his family.
He’s not an antagonist idiot
Thank GOD he died. Can you imagine surviving planet-wide destruction and having the chance of this guy's voice reaching your ears ??

That Russian dad sacrifice hit in the feel.
They played him as such a cliche and hateable character and then actually exonerate him with that. Im glad he became good, just hate that he died.

2012 movies seem to be end of times themed. Thank you Mayan culture.
It was translated wrong. The mayans studied the sun more than anything. They calculated how often destruction happens. The prophecy is just about our current times. The sun will have the biggest CMEs in 2025. We are already getting hit by them.
They also promised humanity, that if we join forces and become a unit, we can overcome any climate catastrophe, caused by the sun.
I would literally blow my brains out if a tsunami the height of mountains was coming my way.
I know right! Shit’s terrifying!!
Even tho a majority of Tsunami deaths are related to drownings, gettin' hit by that Tsunami of that velocity and height would've felt like you got hit by a few mountains, so it would've killed you instantly....I would've just closed my eyes and said a quick prayer
I bet surfers would commit to riding that tsunami, I’ve seen people committed in surfing during a hurricane.
Especially considering the mountains involved with this film were the Himalayas, they're the tallest in the world.
@@christopherdavis4135 But the real question is does our oceans have enough water to go above the Himalayas like in this movie
true man to ring the bell when needed
The "heroes" of this movie were single handedly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people and could've been responsible for many more later in this scene.
Y'know, they also could've outfitted those ship hangars as a massive water tight bunker, protecting anyone left behind until the waters receded.
They needed to be able to move around after
@@kamynpaolino5856 Considering that the land itself was becoming unstable, it could've collapsed or became unstable and buried under

whnat i like in this is that unlike deep impact the water comes slowly, and you can hear the rumble like you can in tsunami videos and flash floodings, makes you feel the whole mass of water coming

I'm not sure humans could build a ship bow that could stand up to that kind of force hitting it.

What a good dad 🖤 I thought he was self obsorbed narc and he may well still be, it might have been the drive to keep the last name going thing..... Longevity
Dayum I was literally one year old when this flood started- since now I’m 10-
Wait u are telling me those massive mountains barely slowed that Tsunami down at all? Ive seen how they act IRL. They slowdown the more impacts they make on hard ground or obstacles.
Does that do anything to minimize the damage?
I don’t think you understand that this tsunami was literally powerful enough to make it over all of India and then the Himalayas. Aka the tallest mountains on the planet. That means by this point the country of india was under about 4-5 miles of water. The mountains probably slowed it down for a brief time before enough water built up to send it flowing over the mountains.

❤ 2012
Since these things are fully fucking capable of being underwater why didn’t they just seal up all the big ass doors in the mountain then load everyone up into the ships. Let the water and everything hit the big ass doors then once the worst part of the flood is done open the doors flood the chambers and then just float up to the surface? I do get tho that the ships are prolly to big to be in the mountain though
was thinking the same thing
@@Cowatude a lot of dumbass things in this movie but that one got me haha
@@patriot459 I don't want to be rude but your sentiment is coming from a place of ignorance. every 33 ft of water the pressure is doubled(one more atmosphere). Even specially designed subs made in a special bubble shape to prevent it from caving in on itself as a square shape would can only go down a few miles. That huge ass ship would be crushed like a tin can under a 100 lb rock if they opened the water gates down there....

Uh huh, sure. I don't suppose the Flood lie doesn't more plausibly stem from the fact that humans thoughout history have always had to live near water to survive, so EVERY culture has a flood story, because EVERY culture has had a 100 year or a 1000 year flood that they had to cope with? Noah if he existed at all was likely just the local kook who spotted that the village was too close to the river and prepared a raft for him and his family and farm animals to survive on when the REGIONAL flood occurred.
People should've died of hypothermia right there; that water flowed across the Himalayan chain!!!
