Brian Fisher On the 3rd block and 4th rebuild I gave up.. I did one engine no tuning at all, completely stock and I still cracked a piston between the rings. Car would run ok then eventually start eating oil at an alarming rate. It needed better cooling system and larger oil capacity. I think this is on my other channel check me out at GT Mitchell on youtube for the latest. About to post my porsche project.
@@gtmitchell814 That's too bad to hear about all of the engine trouble... I'll have to check out your Porsche content, I was considering a 996 911 before getting my WRX.
great video very concise and clear, the only thing I would say is that I prefer to check the engine oil when it is hot, that said checking it when it is cold is fine so long as you take into consideration heat expansion, so on the dip stick from cold the oil level would be a lower end of the scale.
Before removing the oil filter, make a puncture on the side of the filter with hammer and punch, and then one, or two, on the bottom of the filter. This allows the oil that would normally run down the sides of the filter to drain. Only takes about a minute more than not doing it.
Awesome video! Thanks for showing it how its done. Question... how do you take off the fender side vents ( not the badge but the whole vent)? Want to do something to it, but dont know how to take it off. Can you make a quick video on that? Thank you!
I remember that below STI logo bit on the side you just pull the vent pieces off as it is held with plastic clips. Come check out my new youtube channel GTMitchell! Thanks for the support, after the 4th new engine block for the subaru I sold it. Got a big shop and cleaning up/rebuilding my 2002 Carrera 4S.
Very messy way to do the oil change. Try unscrewing the pan boly and let it fall into a catch, when using the oil filter socket, just use to loosen the filter then manually remove the filter...plus, use gloves lol
Ive been checking the oil without starting the engine for years. The only engine failure i ever had was due to lack of proper airflow past the headlights.
Oh yeah I have a big plastic mud guard on my 2012 WRX STI that looks like a pain in the a** to get off. I was looking for a video about that.Other then addressing the mudguard your video was very informative and very good thumbs up🏁
@@SyphADL87 thanks man. I finally got a hold of a Subaru service manual and read it was 32.5 ft lbs for my STI And yeah I've heard that Mobil 1 is trash for our cars. Do you recommend a certain oil?
you just did this video for that sweet cold start lol
Speaks the truth
Great, straight to the point walkthrough! Have you continued using Mobil 1 without any issues?

David R Precisely! Come check out my new youtube channel GT Mitchell 👍 thanks for the kind words.
No... Bad habit
When oil is warm its still spashed around the engine, and you get false measurement of the amount of oil in the motor.

You should have bought 1 Gallon of oil instead of buying 5 quarts. Then use a quart bottle to measure the oil. You will save money
Next time check for oil leaks before putting the cover back.
How does the car perform with Mobil 1 oil?
What exhaust is that 😩😩 sounds fierce

what kind of oil did you use or buy?
I have a 2013 Subaru sti and use Mobil 1
you're suppose to start the engine shut it off then check the oil. it's the proper way

Hey, btw there not 13 mm bolts they are 12 mm bolts, almost stripped the fuck out of my bolts.
Someone probably replaced yours.. 5 years and not 1 comment on this
@@machu009 maybe, I’m the second owner and the original owner did some stuff.
@@tannerreif3302 Mine are also 12mm
Do you remember the correct torque spec for the drain plug. I've been searching on Google and it's so stupid I can't find a straight answer.
33 ft lbs. Also remeber to use a new Crush Washer. Don't use Mobil 1 plz...its garbage and always will be.

why didn't you get a original subaru filter?
because WIX is the best you can buy.
Thanks,
Matts bro
As far as subaru's, wix is not the best you can buy. The subaru jdm is better.
What's the mileage on your STI? How many miles before you change the engine oil?
I sold my STI with about 92000 miles on it. Change your oil every 5000 miles but check the level every time you fuel on the STI.
Use a euro spec if you want your engine to last. Acea a1 is not for turbo cars
Why do you need to get the car warmed up lol
Dominic Acosta makes the oil more viscus and flows out easier.
You’re pouring the quart of oil upside-down
Johnny Haller am I in 0 gravity?
Is that the best oil ?
