This is my complete guide to using Avios points to get free flights across the world. I wish I was doing this years ago, and have subsequently missed out on £1000s of award tickets. This is how you can use British Airways Avios, the Executive Club and Qatar Privelege Points to fly for free.

if you buy a flight with avios points, can you collect avios points on that flight?
Yeah - You left out a MASSIVE flaw with it - which is that only a tiny number of seats on each flight are Avios bookable. Maybe you've had more success if you're a loan traveller, and if you're booking seats a long way in advance, but if you're thinking of booking a flight using avios for a family of 3 or 4 in, say, 6 weeks time - forget it. No chance.

Been doing this for several years have a BA Amex card as well so my points have racked up. Bought a load of furniture the other year & got a 12 pointer on it which added up to over ten thousand miles for something I was going to buy anyway it’s a no brainer. Only thing is you need be regimented on this as it’s easy to forget sometimes & buy something in the shops then get home & see you could have got a 6-12 pointer 🤬 I very rarely buy anything on impulse now but points hunt instead.
Have had a few issues with the avios not being issued & had to chase up on several occasions.
The Amex card app also has cash back offers on selected retailers too that you need to keep an eye out for.
Another tip is the BA double tier points offer on holidays which helps get you up the tiers to lounge access which in turn means even more avios earned on bought for not redemption flights.
I have told loads of people about all of this but very few take notice their loss I guess 🙄

Do you have any advice on how to book with the partner airlines with avios points? I'm looking at booking with either Alaska or American airlines this fall.

I am from the US, I discovered 2010 that you can use credit card for your all expenses like at grocery shopping, restaurants, gas stations; a money that you would have spent it anyway and earn tons of points like American Express gold, where you can earn 4 points every dollar on those categories and transfer those points to airlines for trips. Avios is the best though so far because as I live DFW American Airlines hub, I can book the ticket on BA website and fly AA.
I just recently discovered this! We drive up to DFW when AUS isn't offering the flights we want.
I've been doing this for 3 years, it's a live saver and I then use the point to upgrade my flights!
Ca you elaborate on this? So you buy a regular ticket and then use the points to upgrade? This is possible? I have been looking for flights with avoid for two years and I couldn't find any. Two years ago I did fly to turkey using only avoid, but they have changed the way you find flights now.

I booked hotels from booking with qatar airways program, this is give me 1Avios = 1$. But when I am making reservation I can see how many points I get. When I am trying to do it wit BA page I dont see how many points will I get. Is it OK or should I see points if I am redirected correctly?
Well, Jord, it's funny I have always had AerClub (Aer Lingus partner to BA) and only started purchasing hotels through the Avios links very cool. Do you find it takes time for the transactions to appear?
Can take a few days to receive the email saying it’s gone through, and then can take up to 120 days after the stay to receive the points.
But it’s usually faster than that
We have just signed up for the BA executive club and can’t seem to find the menu at 2.01 that shows the places where you can gain points through apple and places like that. Can you point us in the right direction

Hey I’m a little confused, not sure if I’m using the flight search incorrectly but I’ve got around 70,000 avois saved up and no way I’m finding flights for 13000. I’m getting quotes of £1200 + 50000 avoid for most flights (UK TO US)
Question... if i click through the BA Exec club portal and buy something with Amex gold card, ill get the Avios from the click-through AND the Amex reward points for using the Amex card, right?

Has anyone been able to connect their debit card to their BA executive?
Easy and quick question (which I don't know the answer to): can't I claim avios points until the actual flight? I've literally signed up for the Executive BA Club and bough very expensive tickets. I was hoping I could use these points to buy a connecting flight I need, but the points are nowhere to be seen.
I’m sure you have your answer by now, but just incase… you won’t receive Avios for flights until you have completed your journey.
Is there an American equivalent for this ?

any US version? this is only applies to the UK.
WARNING: Avios isn't exactly a "scam" but the video leaves out a huge issue:
On any one flight there are only a small number of "reward flight" seats available which can be bought with Avios. These become available around 300 days before the flight - and they always sell out.
So if you're thinking you'll be able to hop on the website and book your free flight seat for a flight in a couple of weeks, or even a couple of months time - chances are, no, you won't. Particularly if you're looking to group travel. You might get more luck travelling alone.
So yeah, it's *nowhere near* as useful and amazing as it would be if you could just go ahead and book any seat on any flight with Avios. You can't, and if that's what you're hoping for? Forget it.

You can use any card I believe!
I'm saving points, and have gained a companion voucher, but don't know how to go about finding/booking a reward flight, I keep getting 'no availablity'. Is there a video that can help me with that?

Wow. Painful watching this as now I understand how much money I've been chucking down the drain. I fly often for conferences and weddings and visiting family, the cost was getting ridiculous paying out of pocket every time and now I learn that I could have been getting some flights for free!
Does this stack with the multipliers you already get with cards?

Ive had this card for a year got to 100,000 points I just booked Bali for me and my partner. For 66,000 points all they could offer me is £300 off of 2 economy flights? How does that add up to this video? ….
You have to work hard to find availabilty. I'm going to the seychelles from london in business with Qatar cost me 100k Avios.(thsi Avios took me AGES to accumulate)
