Nothing beats a Larry Bird story.
Word...
facts
Perfectly said.
Danny Ainge is one of the great all around athletes of the last 50 years.
He played down the Bird/Dr J incident.
Throughout the game Bird was giving Julius a running total of how many points each had scored. When it got to 42- 6 Bird then said maybe you should just retire and that was the final straw for Dr J.
That's why in the interview with Bird about it, he simply said I was up 38-6, that's how i saw it.
At the end of the day, Bird called it like he saw it, took no shit and gave no fucks.
Bird absolutely respected and admired Dr J but if Bird could get a mental edge on an opponent, he would take it.
Listening to Danny Ainge is very entertaining. He is a soft spoken guy. Used to watch him in 80s,
Yes, a soft-spoken guy, but he didn't back down. Many thought he was whiny and acted privileged on the court, reacting to calls and complaining to refs all the time, but he was very tough and played the game well.
not in the 90's?
@@WallyChamp112 Yes, 90s too.
OMG, how am I looking at Danny Ainge and seeing a senior citizen! I still expect to see that kid with the baby face.
One thing most people don't know Mister Danny Ainge here is one of the greatest high school athletes of all time!
I could be wrong but I believe he is still the ONLY high school player to be chosen as a First Team All-American in Basketball and Baseball and Football !
I went to the same high school he did, many years after him. His trophies and such were still all over the place. I don't know about now, since I graduated 25 years ago and they just rebuilt the school, but when I was there in the late 90s, he was still a big deal there.
i think your right
Danny Ainge played both professional Baseball and Basketball. For the longest time he was the youngest player to hit a home run in Toronto Bluejays history!
You’re absolutely right. I didn’t know this until now. Wow!
Dave winfield?
Of all the Celtics from the 70s into the80s, the man i loved to watchwas M.L Carr. Saw many games when there's 12 mins left and Boston was slipping their lead, and even a time out didn't get things going, or they'd aaalmost catch up a cpl of times only to go back to 11 pts down, again, in would come Carr, and he would just take charge -- firing passes, across court, WAKE UP it said, layups, fast break, posts from the key, then they'd be 14, or 20 ir maybe even 3 up, and he'd get taken out, but he did his job. But, he did his job, as a player, and a team mate. Loved watching him play. If they started a series of Celtic games from 1965 thru 1980, say -- Id be watchin' the NBA again.
He looks great for his age!!
“You’ve got to earn those shots”
That’s true at all levels of basketball. Miss shots and no one will pass you the ball even as an 8 year old.
I had not heard exactly what Larry said to Dr. J. I saw the fight live on TV. No wonder the Doctor snapped!
Great Larry Bird story. Celtics vs Jazz and Bird taking the ball out near the legendary Jazz coach Frank Layden..."Frank this is to easy.. don't you have anybody that can guard me"? Frank Layden looks down his bench and turns back to Bird; "No" he says. Frank Layden was a Wonderful character.
Great segment
☘️ Larry Legend
Danny's great 👍
Danny Ainge…..a great player
The thing about Larry Bird is that it only took one game against him for him to live rent free inside your head for the rest of your life.
Growing up in the 80's as a Celtics fan we all knew that Danny trash talked more than Larry. That's what makes this funny. Danny was a scraper and a badger.
Wish these guys would ask Danny about when he wound up and hit Mario Ellie square in the face with that baseball face from point blank range. I would love to hear him talk about that. If you haven’t seen it, look it up…absolutely vicious.
When you can back it up like Bird could and did, is it really “trash talking” or rather isn’t it just a benevolent “warning”? 😎
This is good.
Former players talk about no other player like they do Larry he was the best
Not sure who the greatest trash talker was but sure do know who the funniest trash talker was.
Larry Bird said to the great Jazz coach Frank Layden. "Frank don't you have anybody that can guard me"? Layden, a character himself, looked down his bench and said "no".
Danny Ainge took all those flops just to humor Larry, McHale, Chief, ML, and the best Coach ever K.C.
Ainge was the Court Jester of the Celtics.
What I see here is 3 MEN engaged in conversation about other MEN within their profession. How about the rest of us take a lesson. WELL DONE GENTLEMEN.
BIRD WAS THE BEST!
What the heck happened to all the stars? In every sport. They're gone and they haven't been replaced. NFL. NBA. MLB. Boxing. Hockey. Bowling. Golf. NASCAR. It's even true in film. theater, music, comedy, opera, television. Literature. Journalism. Nothing. What happened?
Money and Social Media took over.
Larry is Better than any G.O.A.T.
Larry is just 🏀Larry🏀Legend🏀
Bird told Hubie Brown, is that all you got, you're gonna put a white guy on me?
What language was the chrome-dome black guy trying to speak? In a way, it almost sounded like English.
For a "sensei" you re pretty prejudiced
You've got to hate the Celtics.
