Did anyone else see this song as a metaphor for paedophilia/grooming? I see all the symbolism in the lyrics
Absolutely. I got that when I saw the way the wolf looked at her the first time I saw the musical. He just screamed sexual predator.
The red cape is a symbol for a first period and entering the world of male predators essentially. A warning to girls.
"flowers have their dangers"
*sees a flower*
*pulls out a knife*
"STAY BACK STALKER!!!!!!"
Using this for an audition in a little less than two hours! Wish me luck 😬
Lily Wilson me too lol. Auditions are after school and I need to learn a minute of this so. Luckily it's not too long.
Sparkqlez I'm not sure if you're asking me but yes I did! I actually ended up using the Little Red's part of the prologue.
“Nice is different then good”
Best line ever in my opinion
This and "Hello Little Girl," are so much creepier and darker when you know the original Little Red Riding Hood story is a metaphor for rape...
@@Kevin_Theadore1
Yes. Young girl, the “blood” red hood, alone in the woods, a “wolf” drawing her off the path. I think in the original stories, the wolf chases and attacks her and she “dropped her bouquet of flowers”. It’s all symbolism. It’s the Grimms fairytale that gently warns young women not to travel alone and trust just anyone.
“Nice is different than good” it’s very sad, but I really like how it symolizes that to be a bad thing
"Do not put your faith in a cape and hood"
*Puts on cape and hood*
Oh really?
*Assassin's Creed theme plays*
This was such a good song. As a metaphor for rape, it put a refreshing lesson out there for everyone watching the movie.
What lesson is that? Don't talk to creepy men and tell them where you live?
is not about rape. She's starting to explor her sexuality. A raped person would not say"EXCITED and scared". when she say "grany is right, just be prepared" it means that her mind is prepared. After she lost her virginity with a stranger who seduced her.. This is the point of the story, do not give yourself to anyone, cause he may be an evil wolf (in the play the prince and the wolf are the same actor, two faces of the same being).
The Woods represents the unknow, whats unusual and dangerous in life, I think that the wolf represent that people who we meet in "the woods", they show us a lot of things, we learn a lot of them, but they can also show us bad things, or we can be hurted by them. Their intentions are not always good... Great song!😝 (sorry for muy english)
@@elisat1754 People can have different interpretation even if the moral is stated. I interpret Cinderella differently than some people.
"He made me feel excited- well excited and scared." Anyone else feel extremely uncomfortable?
P.S. I know it was meant to make us feel uncomfortable because of the whole deal with people learning to not trust strangers blah blah blah I get it.
"And he swallowed me down, down a dark slimy path where lie secrets that I never want to know"
Yeah, I don't want to know them either.
So glad I'm not the only person that thinks some of these lyrics are weird.
Cool Turtle Well, the relationship between the Wolf and Red was supposed to be extremely strange, what with the Wolf being a slight pedophile.
Taryn Watson I've always found the story of little red riding hood to be very questionable. Idk a wolf who stalks a little girl in the woods to eat her and her grandmother as a way to scare kids from straying the path. Grimm was always dark so Idk I always got a very creepy vibe from this story.
Taryn Watson I mean look at just the lyrics and forget that this is a disney song sang by a kid. It's very creepy.
Well, this song was more of a theme closer than a plot point. Much like how we could have simply alluded than Johnny was interested in Red and that red and the wolf even met. However these moments have songs because there is a theme that is implemented in these songs when played back to back. To bring it to a real and modern setting, the wolf is representing sexual predators and red a potential and resulting victim. 'Nice isn't always good.' Taking it in that anyone can seem nice however not everyone has good intentions. It's themes like this that really draw a lot of people to the play, me and my drama teacher included.
+kimmie Wise "To bring it to a real and modern setting, the wolf is representing sexual predators"
The wolf was representing sexual predators since the very first recorded tellings of the tale. See www.pitt.edu/~dash/type0333.html#perrault where the story's first recorded version in 1697 ends with the moral: "Children, especially attractive, well bred young ladies, should never talk to strangers, for if they should do so, they may well provide dinner for a wolf. I say "wolf," but there are various kinds of wolves. There are also those who are charming, quiet, polite, unassuming, complacent, and sweet, who pursue young women at home and in the streets. And unfortunately, it is these gentle wolves who are the most dangerous ones of all."
Aris Katsaris I ment to connect those reading my comment to a Modern equivalent. But yes, that was the point of the original tale as well.
But the story ends right after the wolf eats red riding hood no huntsman and sometimes little red riding hood is saved before the wolf eats her and lola or omma is digested. Now think if into the woods was written with little red riding hood digested what than no red hood plot twist to a tale does the witch come early what happens to the other characters than I wonder we are adding the musical not disney's version. Let's have a dark twist like little red riding hood my version more realistic version.
This is my dream role. I REALLY want my school to do Into The Woods
Lucy Anstett My school is.. HAHA XD I'm trying out for Little Redddddd...
Lucy Anstett were doing a motage of differen songs from different musicals. And my solo is to this song
Did anyone catch how she said “Mother said straight ahead not to delay or be misled” and that’s the same words the bakers wife had said to her I feel as though Little Red see the bakers wife as a mother figure to her
This is my favorite version of the song. Her voice just sounds so perfect. In addition, I like how they had Little Red sing the song to the Baker in this movie unlike the musical. I feel like it builds a tiny bit more to their relationship.
Thank you! I am auditioning for Little Red Riding Hood in our community Into the Woods play. This song helped!
(edit) I got the role!! Thank you!!
Mother said, "Straight ahead"
Not to delay or be mislead
I should have headed her advice
But he seemed so nice
And he showed me things
Many beautiful things
That I hadn't thought to explore
They were off my path
So I never had dared
I had been so careful
I never had cared
And he made me feel excited
Well, excited and scared
When he said, "Come in!"
With that sickening grin
How could I know what was in store?
Once his teeth were bared
Though, I really got scared
Well, excited and scared
But he drew me close
And he swallowed me down
Down a dark slimy path
Where lie secrets that I never want to know
And when everything familiar
Seemed to disappear forever
At the end of the path
Was Granny once again
So we lay in the dark
'Til you came and set us free
And you brought us to the light
And we're back at the start
And I know things now
Many valuable things
That I hadn't known before
Do not put your faith
In a cape and a hood
They will not protect you
The way that they should
And take extra care with strangers
Even flowers have their dangers
And though scary is exciting
Nice is different than good
Now I know: Don't be scared
Granny is right, Just be prepared
Isn't it nice to know a lot!
And a little bit not
i think sondheim wrote this song from a kids perspective but when adults figure out they realise the songs meaning is to be careful.
Gotta say I was pretty impressed by these kids. I think they did very well.
I love Lilla Crawford's voice.
Her singing is one of the reasons why this is my favorite version of the song
this is such a creepy song.. but its good!
I love this song Lila did such a great job so did the ret of the cast💚
using this for an audition! wish me luck 🤞
This song and the actress who sang it were perfect. So full of meaning snd warnings for modern times!
My school is doing Into the Woods and I’m planning on using this song to audition for Little Red. Wish me luck!
If your singing this audition (45-60) seconds where would a good place to pause be
I'm starting at 1:19 with "and you brought us to the light
and were back at the start" and going to the end and that's around 22 measures if that helps at all?
@@hannahwilliams9153 isn't the "that lie secrets I never want to know" 32 bars? I measured it but I might have had the tempo wrong
I LOVE THIS SONG❤
I love this song! I'm using it for an audition for The Little Mermaid

@@ZiMaLiGood job!! I’m going to audition for Little Red in a month I’m so excited do you have any tips on what I should do for my audition?
@@dizzy-frog If you are dancing during rehearsal then just know that instead of walking she always skips & for singing she changes pitch a lot
I can't get over her amazing voice!
i have the perfect vocal range for LRRH! i've been practicing for this role and auditions are today after school, wish me luck!
I played the bassoon part on sax in the part for this musical it was fun.
"But he seemed so nice..."
Yeah so do all strangers until they try and stuff you in the white van.
What's interesting is that the rest of her song sounds bold and loud but the "nice is different than good" part sounded soft and sad.
I have never seen the movie or play, but I heard my sister listening to the song and I love the tune and her voice
The theater in my town is doing into the woods, and i was lucky enough to get the role of Little red, so i have to practice!
I'm doing the play Into The Woods and I'm using this to audition cause I want little red riding hood ❤️

Thanks guys! I didn't get the part tho :( But I got another singing part so that's ok. It was my first time singing in a play so I guess they liked my singing
I first heard this song years ago when I went on my first road trip from Illinois to Mexico it reminds of the moments I remembered that moment for ever I still have feelings
i feel like the movie version is so dumbed down that the metaphor went over everyone’s heads 💀
Trying to be in a community theater and its into the woods so im using this to audition cause thats what was assigned
I have learnt all the words and this has helped me so much
I love this song i dont care what other people say!
Using this for an audition that’s sometime in early March. This seems to be a very popular audition song lol
Edit: I couldn’t go the audition because I was busy that day, but I’m using this for another audition In august!!
casually watching for a school play
Using this for an audition Monday
The scene that starts with ‘oh how uneasy I feel’ and ends with the song is probably the most terrifying scene of all history. But this song is great!
Love it !
The songs great, not gonna lie, and I understood the underlyin’ theme pretty much immediately. Kinda felt some uh- emotions there, yknow? Xoxo, AD 💕🕷
Say what you want about the movie, but you have to admit that Lilla freaking killed it in this role!
I am trying out for this role in our school play Into The Woods. I really hope I get the part. I love this song!

This is gonna be my audition song for next year :')

+flwrgrl13 I think the movie is good :) It´s a little bit too long, but the cast and the songs are great. It´s not my favorite, but still a good movie
Love into the woods and all the songs❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💚💚💚💚💚💙💜💜💜💜💜💙💙💙💛💛💙💛💛💛💛
thx for this it is helping me with my lipsinke
She's so good
i have to use this song for an audition for my school musical love ittt😼😼😼
THE MOVIE SCENE WHERE SHE LITERALLY GOES DOWN THE WOLFS STOMACH MADE NO SENSE LIKE WTF
Better metaphorically, than seeing Little Red fall down a real stomach and all the gorey stuff that goes with it.
I just realized, Red Riding Hood sings "Nice is not good" and later on the Witch sings "You're so nice. You're not good, you're not bad, just... nice!" That's so cool lol.
Woooooo Auditons tommarow and I havent practice either my song which is this one and my lines wich are also Little reds but god an i exided and nervous at the same time. If anyone sees this Wish me luck!
