funny fact is I have done many races like transcontinental all various ultra endurance events on and off road..it took only one nursery pick up run (1.5 mile long) and one driver to abuse me to levels where I am now diagnosed with PTSD and cannot ride my bike normally. And I would say that i have seen it all.. So removing vital infrastructure which keeps more vulnerable road user safe is insane and stupid.
Lawrence, love your channel, very inspirational! I live just off the High St Ken and have two daughters who have really started using the bike lanes both here and through Hammersmith (where the local council is much more supportive/coherent), as well as myself as a life-long cyclist. Thanks for highlighting the issue and let’s hope public pressure and reaction changes RBKC’s mind!! Cheers,
I always think Manchester is a crazy place to ride a bike through, but London.. Jeez, that's on another level. Absolutely support you guys and what you're doing. Signed the petition, the more exposure these sort of campaigns get the better. Thank you to all of you.
Red light jumping cyclists are a menace. So are dog walkers that don’t clear up after their dogs take a dump. I don’t yell at every dog walker I come across though.
On my road bike I never noticed the problem - blind to it I guess. However, cycling on a hire bike or less than 18mph (IE most people, children, shoppers etc) is pretty scary. The 2 lane roads are often reduced to 1 lane when people park in it so a cycle lane is no extra burden, only benefit.
Totally. I agree, I think this is often overlooked by serious road cyclists who will not (naturally) understand how different it is for many other cyclists on different bikes / abilities.
You deserve 30k more than most! Great content that has only got better the more you've uploaded. Looking forward to the next time the Basement boys (not your official name I know) are able to get away together!
The debate will run and run. There are some brilliant cycle lanes around. I was listening to Talk Radio this year and was shocked to hear how much some motorists hate cyclists. So we need to improve that relationship so that we can both use roads more amicably. There are bad cyclists and bad drivers. The answer may lie in technology to manage this - cameras etc. We have tax relief on bikes for work but maybe government needs to do more. Emotive subject. Good video.
I wrote in! I’m from Vancouver BC Canada where they have invested in cycling lanes and it’s amazing. Also love your Polaroid jacket. I found myself in a hour long worm hold trying to google where to buy this jacket . Hahaha no luck .

Done. We have cycle lanes here in Calgary despite 4 months of snow and minus 40 temps. It is still progressive thinking and despite early objections, it was quickly accepted. They also have a running counter which displays number of bikes using the lane each day so the evidence of use is publicly displayed and in real time. Good luck. Mark
That's great to hear from Calgary Mark, unfortunately it's not the same here in Scarborough. An article in the Toronto Star just sent out from a counsellor will be removing the installed bike lanes :( We're trying to defy that decision.
Hey! I was wondering what camera you use for your videos? And if you would be willing to make a video about the camera equipment and filming process I’d greatly appreciate it! I know it’s not inline with your typical content but I’d still love to see something like it plz. Keep up the fabulous work 🔥
Hi Gabriel, it’s a good idea for sure. Although currently my camera is really giving me some problems and I’m trying to get that fixed. Maybe one for the new year! Thanks for watching.
I have a suspicion that those who "complained" are the mega-rich and ultra-wealthy (this is Kensington after all)who can get their way just by stomping their feet at their friendly neighbourhood MP's. I hope I'm wrong.
Thank god it’s going, now I can park right outside Gail’s again! (Lol jk) Hopefully this bike lane will be back in the future, but better designed and implemented. It was a step in the right direction, and I’m glad RBKC had a go. Hopefully they’ll engage some clever street scene / traffic flow designers to come back with a better solution.
gotta learn somewhere, best to do on safe cycle lanes rather than die in traffic or causing more congestion with mommy driving them to school putting another Chelsea tractor on the congested streets of central London, init!
Form submitted, it beggars belief that they are considering removing it. I thought councils were struggling for money, obviously this one isn't. Hope they reconsider and continue with the cycling lanes. I am a mtorist too but have no problem with councils making things more difficult for motorists, albeit that doesn't appear to be the case here. Motorists lose all sense when behind the wheel and somehow get enraged if a cyclist is in their way etc. and behave like demented idiots whilst at the same time seemingly forgetting that if they don't slow down, afford the cyclist room etc. they have a very real chance of killing them. It's staggering how people change when driving, decent people turn into complete idiots. This is why I have no qualms about things being more difficult for motorists, it is not a form of transport for the coming years and decades for many reasons. Sorry rant over.
Although I no longer lived in the UK, it's still my native land. It's unacceptable for the safety of the many to be sacrificed to the desires of the few. Petition signed.
An excerpt from what i wrote: *******You all over there are forward thinking. Do not regress and think backward like us over here across the pond. Typical - no data is used to support this decision. If cyclists are behaving badly, ignoring signage and signals, then the logical step is an education and enforcement campaign, not to rip out the lane entirely. An enforcement campaign may create its own pain, but running down pedestrians in the legal right-of-way is obviously feeding the bike haters.
I've found it more dangerous cycling along there than before there was a cycle lane, due to buses and stopped cars meaning you have to dart in and out of the cycle lane into the traffic
@@strangnet I cycled along there again last night and the same issue, the stopped vehicles are unfortunately public buses making it tricky to do anything about it
Lawrence, Chelsea and Kensington is full of money. I would imagine that the wealthy folk of this borough have complained and as we all know money talks. Sadly if you have money or know the right people you get what you want. Sad but true.
He is promoting cycling as a safe means of transport (such that not wearing a helmet wouldn't be seen as a dangerous move). Cyclists using bikes for transportation in most of Western Europe don't have to defend not wearing a helmet as the safe/segregated infrastructure exists.
I'm a cyclist commuter and a driver and the Kensington bike lane is a joke. the bit you filmed isn't the problem. its the section further up by Hyde park. to say it hasn't increased congestion is completely untrue.
Imagine removing a lane used for 7 different bus routes to make that same lane available for cyclists only, also making disabled access to taxis impossible, businesses to receive deliveries and only believe cyclists are the people who matter🤷♂️

But the solution to that can't be to remove cycling infrastructure? The problem is the motor vehicles, hardly the cycles?
