    If the writers wanted to take on a real issue, they could have gray go through an actual domestic violence intense counseling for abusers. The real issue is that there are regular appearing men, and also women, who are not necessarily inherently evil, but have distorted impulses to physically hurt the person they love the most, and who loves them despite how screwed up they are. It would be really lazy writing to just have his behavior be a secret discovered by her father, so people can just feel better watching him beat the crap out of his son-in-law. The complexity for this character, to come to an epiphany that he cannot get better without intensive programmatic counseling, could be a real chance 2 highlight the psychological intervention of Anger Management. Many abusers strikeout because they can't deal with how much they hate themselves. He may or may not go to prison, for some period Of time for the violent crimes he committed, and his wife may or may not allow him back into her life. But the truth is that men and women who abused partners are much more common then a jekyll-hyde character on a TV show. There are People that we deal with everyday, seemingly good people who truly do good work and can be an asset to their community, who we may even be friends with, who have a secret hidden propensity for violence only seen by their partner/ spouse. And if that person truly acknowledges their crimes and commits to turning their life around, they can get the psychological professional help to develop skills of Anger Management. It would take months or a few years to truly atone and prove to themselves and others that it is possible to reform and become a stable adult who can control their most dangerous impulses. I don't know if the writers for the show have an interest in portraying a real person undertaking a struggle, as opposed to the lazy dramatic plot driven storyline we've seen over and over of an evil Secret waiting to be exposed so the lazy audience gets the pleasure of seeing a villain defeated.

      table rounders understand your point to some degree but not sure it’s fair to label the audience as lazy for feeling a desire to see a despicable bully get dealt with as they believe he deserves.

    • @JamesBrown-
      @JamesBrown- Před 4 lety +4

      table rounders actually on second thoughts I don’t really understand your point if you’re trying to make excuses/justify the actions of a cowardly piece of shit like this. Many people have anger issues and propensities for violence and would never prey on vulnerable people. Who cares he hates himself, rightfully so. Would you also argue that a priest that does charity work by day and rapes kids by night may be a good person?

    • @zyrosqrd2552
      @zyrosqrd2552 Před 4 lety +8

      @@JamesBrown- If you actually read what I wrote, I justified nothing he did. I said he committed violent crimes for which he could be jailed. And his wife has every right to divorce him / get restraining order, to protect herself. Your question about a priest raping kids has nothing to do with my point - raping kids is not an angry impulse (I'm speaking as someone who was sexually abused as a kid myself). I also got the crap beat out of me by my father when he got angry. The people who abused me were predators; my father was not. I never said this character is a "good person", whatever the hell that is. But he can be multi-layered and redeemable if he accepts responsibility for his crimes, rather than simply a villain. This character's violence is not planned, and if he is written as someone who is truly remorseful, and has another dimension, that is more interesting than just being a wife-beater who needs to eventually be beaten or killed (so a lazy audience can cheer violence perpetrated against him - a predictable plot that we've all seen before in movies and on tv) . Then once he gets discovered and beaten up or killed, the story is over - it's a boring device for a writer to use. The writers of this show have taken on real social issues before. My point is that this is a social issue, men and women (who may be soldiers, doctors, teachers, lawyers) who actually contribute to society in important ways can be violent in their homes and harm people they truly love because they can't control anger. Would you call a doctor who saves lives (not the nonsense "charity work" you refer to), or a soldier fighting to defend their country, a lawyer seeking justice for a client - any of whom might have violent angry moments taken out on their spouse = are they all simply cowardly pieces of shit?
      I give the writers credit for the way they have written Chantelle to have reached the point where she will not let him near her; she refuses to hide the fact that he injured her and forces him to see that he has completely lost her trust; however she has kids with him, and has to get by, so for the time being she has to find a way to be married to this guy (and ideally she would tell him outright "if you come near me aggressively, I will kick you in the nuts" or fight back in some way that will hurt him severely to protect herself). But If this were to be the last time he ever hurt her and he admitted that he beat his wife to an expert on treating men and women who commit domestic violence, he could get help to turn his life around. He said in counseling that his father beat his mother; the writers could highlight how a person who acts like their parent did can break the cycle of violence , get serious counseling and learn skills to manage anger . What are the tools these people need to fix this fucked-up behavior? It would take months to earn back any trust from his wife that she is safe in his presence; but if he is serious about a promise to never harm her again, and shows that, it is possible to heal.
      - I don't really care if he gets beaten up or killed; he is a fictional character, so I have no feeling for him. As an actor, it is a more interesting character to play if he faces up to his crimes, rather than just playing a bad guy wife-beater.

      Something he inherited from his father. But it's no excuse he's gone from a physical mental abuser to a serial killer. He's completely twisted he needs to be locked up and accessed by a professional doctor.
