  • So how exactly does the 2019/2020 BMW M135i compare to the outgoing M140i?

    The new BMW 135i came as quite the shock to fans of the older generation M135i and M140i - BMW had implemented more than a few changes, enough to turn the heads of Golf R & A45 owners.
    BMW have swapped out that 3 litre straight 6 engine in favour of a 2 litre, 4 cylinder motor AND they have implemented the X Drive all-wheel-drive system instead of the usual RWD format.
    But what is it like to drive? How do the cars differ? Is it actually any good?
    Find out in today's video when I take the BMW 135i for a quick spin, taking you on a tour of the cars interior & exterior whilst giving my thoughts on how the car performs.

    Good review that, what might have made it better was probably a few quick shots of the boot size and space, and maybe some shots of you in the back to show some practicalities. Other than that you’re heading in the right direction with these types of videos 😉

      @@JustTheDriven The f2x are really good cars but with flaws which perhaps give them character and makes them fun. In particular the poor rear damping and 300+ hp with an open diff makes for some interesting moments.
      I was planning on going back to a hatchback anyway and will admit to being a bit sceptical about the new model but a 3 hour long test drive won me over!

    • @JustTheDriven

      Interesting, I did/do quite fancy buying a F2x model, purely for the engine. I'd make sure to get one with an LSD though.

    • @MrScootmcg
      @MrScootmcg Před 4 lety +2

      @@JustTheDriven They are all about the engine, n55 or b58 you can't go wrong. Bilstein do a spring & damper kit which I understand dramatically improves things without a lsd and I seriously considered going down that road.
      The lsd should be standard but hey thats why the m2 exists!
      Car was ordered early Sept and delivered last week in October. I have a good relationship with the local dealer and lets just say they let me 'run in' one of their demos slightly ahead of the official launch date!

    @dj-vy3yl Před 3 lety

    Picked up mine 3 days ago in the storm bay colour and I have to say its a brilliant drive, I prefer it over the old rear wheel version as I used to lay bricks in my pants when the back end went out 😂 only thing that bugs me is the fake sound pumped through the speakers but you can reduce the sound in the settings menu. Also the 2020 models only pop and crackle when you start the car up and it won't pop when your actually driving which is a shame but a map should sort that.

    In 20 years time when they update the classic BMW book; the 140i will get an ENTIRE chapter devoted to it; the 135i (of this generation) will get a footnote. Wait and see.......

    This won’t sell numbers like the previous generations.
    The 3.0 turbo rear wheel drive was its selling point. Now it’s just the same as everything else in the market. In which case Audi s3 wins it for me

    • @JustTheDriven
      @JustTheDriven  Před 4 lety +1

      I feel it will grow on people the longer it's out, it's a huge initial change but I feel people will warm to it. I do agree that the B58 was a huge selling point.

    "So thanks too BMW dealer for letting me drive your car, I've left a very positive review and not mentioned the pig ugly front"
    I drove one a few weeks ago and I'll agree interior is a big step up but that engine and gearbox compare to the old m140i are worlds apart. The car I tested was 42k that's way too close to m2 comp and for me hard to imagine stepping from the m140i down to the more expensive new m135i, rather trade in m140i and go m2

    • @JustTheDriven
      @JustTheDriven  Před 4 lety +1

      I don't think the front looks too bad 🤷🏼‍♂️, I think if you're currently driving a 140i the change is daunting and I'd agree, if I was in that situation I'd opt for the M2. I think people moving from an A35/45, Golf R, Cupra etc will see this car in s better light

    • @JayJay-loz
      @JayJay-loz Před 4 lety +1

      Update.....deal on my m140i was too good and the extra running cost of M2 comp can't be justified, so took another test drive and after specific packs added and a few extras decided to order a m135i.

    An interesting release- The interior and exterior is not too bad, but I think the A35 shades it on Both accounts. Quite a few 140i / 135i 6cy purists condemn the car, citing the new design as ugly, and the engine as a step back ( regs ) .
    Be interesting to see the tunability of the car as you say.
    That said, good effort on the review, look forward to seeing the soon to be released 2019 2020 hot/ hyper hatch reviews. ( A35, A45S, Mk8r, S3, Mazda 3 TCR etc)

    The exterior is pretty hateful in my opinion. The rear is Ok(ish) but the side profile is grim (like the bastard offspring of an X2 and a 2 series active tourer) and then there’s the snout with those grilles. Sounds bobbins too, and the Asin ‘box isn’t a patch on the ZF8.
    The interior is really good though other than the awful digital dials with their silly shaped dials.
