    Awesome Vid brother! Keeping it simple and to the point, definitely considering this pack as an EDC when the new color ways come out. Hope you had some down time from work to enjoy Costa Rica, stay safe out there.

    I absolutely love my Entity 23. Perfect daily "go to work" and "get home" bag. Love that I don't have to choose between my laptop space and ccw space. Here I have and use both. Excellent work Maxpedition. Highly recommended!

    Very nice review. However, the direction of the side zippered flaps are obviously designed for access whilst worn. Swing off one shoulder and then those flaps would be facing the user and logically designed. It really is a case of how it's to be used.

    Another outstanding video. Your comments about the laptop compartment are spot on, and not just for this bag but for most other bags, including bags not made by "tactical nylon" companies trying to break into the mainstream. How difficult would it be to include a kydex insert to armor the bottom and then suspend it a inch or so above the bottom of the bag with adequate padding? Guess it's time to build a better mousetrap.

    You're absolutely right. if the side pockets opened towards the front it would be easier access, things wouldnt fall out and also the magnet would hold all 3 pockets closed and not just the 1... Youre a genius!

    I wish the water bottles were like in the north face recon, mesh with the drawstring tightener. I hate these water bottle pockets that are not stretchy. But I would actually prefer if they just added loops on the sides like in their more tactical bags, so you can just attach your preferred third party water bottle to it. Also this bag doesn't have loops amf shock cord with drawstring, that id essential for me do I'd probably stick to their traditional line

  • @canadafree2087
    @canadafree2087 Před 3 lety

    I was looking at these this week but this is a fantastic review. The side pockets do open the wrong way both from accessing it standing up and laying down. The shoulder pouch fit is crap, which they do not show on their website. I like the drawbridge straps but the magnets were always questionable and who wants magnets around a laptop?

  • @magnusnordstrom9594
    @magnusnordstrom9594 Před 5 lety

    Do you always lay down your pack with the shoulderstraps facing against the ground? If you do, then the sidepockets is wrong.... I´d rather flip it so it wont get dirty on that side, which is the side against the back.

    7:40 - You know before you open the side pocket zippers you can flip the bag over to eliminate that 'problem', right? I prefer the zippers to open towards my back as that makes it much more difficult to pick-pocket.

  • @cqpadovani
    @cqpadovani Před 5 lety +1

    The side pouches are not designed to be opened with the bag on top of a table... there are designed to open them while you carry the bag... slide the bag to the side and you have easy fast access to the stuff inside the side pouches...

    • @HarleyWood23
      @HarleyWood23  Před 5 lety +1

      You can’t tell consumers you should only open that pouch while wearing the bag. Obviously users could often need the contents when not wearing. My point is, if it hinged the other direction, it would work for both.

    I have to retire my old backpack so I been looking around and I've been leaning towards the Entity series. Mainly less tactical and to blend in an urban/city environment. My only gripe is having the maxpetition name tag In full view, maybe they should've put it on the side of the backpack kind of hidden away. Anyway nice review.

      So I am actually in the process of returning my Gamut 2.0. The material used seems subpar albeit I used my bag eberyday and am hard on my packs, they go everywhere with me. The material seems to prematurely fray and pill in areas and its happened on 2 separate Gamuts now. I decided to order an Entity 27, it will be here in the next couple days. I know its a year later and youve probably got a pack by now but hope this helps you.

    Really, really. Use some common sense, of course if you open the side pockets when their upside-down items inside are going to fall out! Why in the first place are you laying the bag on it's back then opening the side pockets. I could understand if the bag did have front zipper pockets you where using, then forgot the side pockets were upside-down. But the Entity series has no front zipper pockets, so don't lay the bag on it's back! I have the Maxpedition Entity sling 16, with the same side pockets. Simple solution, put the bag down vertically, because that's how you would access the main compartment anyway. I really like the side pockets because they open the other way, because the zipper can't be seen from the front of the bag. Also having the zipper open the other way makes it very hard to pick pocket/get in side without the person wearing the bag noticing.

    • @HarleyWood23
      @HarleyWood23  Před 6 lety

      Thomas Connolly
      The main compartment opens forward. If you lay it as you recommend, you can’t access the primary compartment. During my work trip we had a large training room with over a dozen folks. I watched and noticed every single person laid their pack on its back. It’s just the typical way most folks do. Those side pouches ignore that typical use case scenario.

    • @ThomasConnolly
      @ThomasConnolly Před 6 lety

      I sit my Maxpedition Entity Sling 16 vertically. Then I can unzip the main compartment and access the items I need quickly, the drawbridge retention straps keep the front flap from just simply falling over. The bag is designed to use vertically. I like the side pockets the way they are, opening the oposite way. That makes the zippers less noticeable from the front and causes the zipper to open towards your back when you're wearing it. Which makes the side pockets much harder to pick pocket. Also on my Entity Sling 16 I can use the handle on the side of the bag to simply swing the entire bag across my shoulder to now have the bag sit horizontally in front of me, having the pockets now zippering in the correct way for easy access.

      @@HarleyWood23 I know you probably don’t care but I just got the 27 today and so far I’m loving it as a diaper bag. Previously I was bouncing between the 5.11 Covrt, Rapid Quad and the Dart Pack.
      Side pockets could be backwards as you mentioned but if you’re using it like a sling then it is facing the correct way. If you’re wanting to access the side pocket stand it on it’s side. That said Maxpedition should have added an inner zipper to give it direct access to the internals of the bag. That’d be very handy for pulling stuff packed deeper in the bag that you would otherwise have to go digging through.
      For a diaper bag it has a similar fabric feel as some diaper bags out there but I’d imagine the material is considerably tougher.
      Side pockets are nice but I wished they stretched outward a bit more. If your internal compartment is packed tight then it’s tight to get extra 16.9oz water bottles in there.
      One knock against is as well is no hook or loop for a water bladder. It’s very minor material to add and even if you never use it it’s nice to have.I also like to have a slot on the bottom to roll a jacket or two or a blanket and cinch it up so it’s not taking up backpack space. It’s 4 small pieces of molle that would not stand out and give more options that would have also been useful. As a work around I may just use some paracord and a cincher and loop it around the side handles for any blankets or jackets but it’d be much neater and look better to have it underneath the bag.
      I’ve never been one to blindly dump stuff into pockets even if they are see thru but instead prefer to use other bags to sort stuff easier. These fit my larger bags perfectly and are still visible.
      Zippers aren’t the smoothest out of the gate but I’m sure they will break it and get smoother.
      Overall it’s a slim bag if you pack it light or a large bag if you pack it full. It reminds me a lot of the Peak Design Everyday Backpack but better.

    • @HarleyWood23
      @HarleyWood23  Před 5 lety

    Maxpedition packs have a long history of zippers blowing out. And the company routinely REFUSES TO HONOR their so-called "lifetime warranty" when a zipper fails (check out the many negative reviews on amazon dot com for proof). They want you to pay $50 for a zipper replacement. Their packs are very durable, but what good is that when your zipper is blown? No offense to HarleyWood23 is intended.
    All Maxpedition packs are overpriced. There are many other companies that offer superior products for less money. For example, 5.11, Mystery Ranch, Blackhawk, Voddoo Tactical, Eberlestock, and Condor are a few of the better companies.
    I recommend the 5.11 Tactical RUSH72 Backpack which comes in 7 different colors (including grey if you are wanting the greyman look), has a 3342 cubic inch capacity, and costs only $138 on Amazon. Or the 5.11 RUSH24 pack, with a 2275 cubic inch capacity

    • @peterevans8194
      @peterevans8194 Před 5 lety

      I have a couple of the 5.11 backpacks and have found them excellent. The Rush series have a more tactical look to them than this particular bag, but the Rush Covert18 would make a very comparable alternative....
