I have seen ink rolling a few times, but does it server a purpose other than asmr?

Yes! It helps to “mix” the ink much like you have to stir paint, and to evenly coat the brayer (roller) before rolling the ink onto the block :).

According to what I've observed, ink rolling spreads the ink equally to the roller, which then evenly covers the entire stamp before the press
