    Jared Goff isn't like Dak and Tua. Jared Goff took the Rams to the Superbowl and lost to the GOAT Tom Brady and Bill Belichick's defense. This year he took the Lions to a deep playoff run and it was poor decisions from Dan Campbell that stopped them in their tracks.

  • @user-iq6cc3df3l
    @user-iq6cc3df3l Před 24 dny +14

    I think Jared throws a beautiful ball. But I looked at stats which matter. He’s 4-4 in the playoffs - respectable - with a 65-percent completion percentage and about a 5-2 TD-2-INT ratio. You’d like to see high 60s and 3 but close enough for government work. Now he’s no Mahomes but who is? If I were a coach I’d take Goff over a lot of “more celebrated” quarterbacks. But assuming 50 mil is a lot I think Jared should be paid at least 40, maybe 45 if you’re generous. He’s better than advertised. He’s played in one Super Bowl and really should’ve been in a second but that loss to the 49ers is all on Campbell. Plus Jared handled that better than most would’ve. I would’ve blown a fuse.

    • @deathhimself1653

      4-4 is kinda beyond respectable. There's not many QB's not named Mahomes, brady or Jimmy G that can say better. (That's a non exhaustive list, of course). 4 wins ties him at 42nd all time
      Really, he should be in the Kirk Cousins range. A top ten but not top five qb, in this system he works, and even if they pay him they should be able to keep the players together. So 40-50 million a year. But longer term guarentees than kirk got since he's younger and doesn't have the injury concern.

    My guess is that Goff sees that he took the team to the NFC championship, the defense was mostly to blame for the Lions loss, and therefore he wants to be paid Tier 1 money. But as a Lions fan I can tell you, Goff is not the dynamic, elite QB that a true Tier 1 QB is. He sticks to the playbook, he stays in the pocket like a statue. That's good in a sense because he doesn't get rattled in high pressure games. But thank Brad Holmes that Goff has such an elite O-Line or else he'd get pretty badly exposed for his faults. Goff is at $33M avg/yr, he probably deserves right around $45M and I wouldn't give him more than 4 years max. If he's asking for like $50+ he's nuts.

If they offered 45 or more, Goff should jump on it. He will be hard-pressed to find a better situation than Detroit. Top 2 offensive line, top 2 tight end, top 5 #1 receiver with good supporting cast, top running back duo. Ford Field is indoors. If he wins here, the fans will adore him and he will have a huge payday in retirement with local endorsements and TV gigs. Homes has always shown priority to his own guys, and that includes Goff. Holmes was the lead on drafting Goff, and getting Goff was his first move as Detroit’s GM. They’ve probably already settled on a number (my guess is 46/yr), and this is a years negotiation. Holmes has never given a FA contract over 3 years, and the 4 year extensions Sewell and St Brown just got went to players who are much younger on rookie deals. All of the recent major QB extensions (Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Jackson) were all 5 year though, and that’s probably where Goff’s agent is sitting. All of those extensions were to guys on rookie deals though. So, I’m guessing they’ll end up settling on 4 years.

    Top tier are superbowl contending QBs who elevate their teammates (not many), next tier should be around the $25-35m (starters who can win playoff games). Below that, I don't see why QBs should be paid any more than top draft picks ($10m max).
    Goff should be in that mid-range $25-35m because, without serious weapons and watertight protection, I can't see him run deep in playoffs.

      Watch them play. Don’t look at stats. Watch them play. They could swap teams and have similar success. They both have decent arm strength. Both generally throw the ball on time and accurately. Both struggle a little when their timing is thrown off by pass rush or when receivers just aren’t open. Both are good enough to get their teams to the playoffs and neither is good enough to carry their team to the playoffs. If you want to argue that Goff is slightly better… ok. But they are similar. Like Dak and Cousins are similar. And if any team pays Geno or Goff over $40M then they won’t be able to put as much talent as those guys need around them to win a Super Bowl.

    Josh Allen is at best QB4 in the league. Burrow and Lamar are definitely ahead of him. And since Daboll left the Bills, Allen has not been as effective. Could he get more money? Probably. Can he carry that cap hit and be successful? Well he hasn't carried what he has to success yet.
