  • A Bellevue police officer still recovering from a fall from an overpass while on duty said he’s been kicked off the city health insurance plan.
    Officer Kevin Bereta nearly died during an on-duty accident in August of last year.
    “Deep down in my heart I wish I was still at work riding the motorcycle,” Bereta said.
    On August 15 of last year, Bereta was assigned to Vice President Kamala Harris' motorcade as part of the security detail during a Seattle visit. Bereta lost control of his bike and fell some 60 feet off an overpass and sustained a life-changing injury.

    Crazy we can keep officers on paid leave while they're investigated yet you can't continue coverage for a man hurt on the job. Hopefully the city does right by this officer, his union should stand up for him as well!

      Medicare4All should be the option! Failing that, he should be covered because he was hurt while on duty. Bellevue will get so much bad publicity from this they'll probably fix it. Ironically, I bet if he had injured someone else and was on "paid administrative leave" during an investigation he'd be covered.

    Bellevue? Bellevue doesn’t have a money problem. Most of the bigger cities have a 2 year window for recovery from on and off the job injuries. They also provide a supplement plan that you pay $100 a month of disability insurance in case you are hurt like this. No one has said if this was a contract job or an on the job injury. His premium is probably around $2k a month for health insurance. Might be advantageous to head to TJ and come across the border and get free medical insurance for the next 5-7 years while you recover. Funny? Not at all. Very sad for sovereign citizens like this family.

    Sssssoooooo he’s seeing/ being how the rest of us are treated by labor and industry ? Difference is most of us don’t have the money to “ pay for insurance out of pocket “ let alone everyday things like rent/ mortgage payments, food , electricity, etc etc etc .. and if you wind up on pension you’re really screwed they base your pay out at time of injury not time of decision to pension so say you get hurt and 12 years down the road they pension you you are screwed and nobody cares ….

    How did he lose control and go off an overpass? He became a cop to ride a bike, and he's only bummed because he can't play with his kids? Why can't he get desk duty? But, always back to the first question, HOW did he accomplish that?

    • @thereissomecoolstuff
      @thereissomecoolstuff Před 3 měsíci +2

      Who was paying him at the time of the crash? Notice the overpass. I’m guessing he was trying to get ahead of the procession after stopping traffic and hit the right curbing and went over. It would be very easy to do. He wasn’t experienced in procession work.

      @@thereissomecoolstuff Irrelevant, he wasn't paid to be completely incompetent and drive over the big barriers, it's nearly impossible and no other cop ever has done such a thing. He clearly was goofing or showing off and totally reckless and careless, and now he's paying for it, as this is never a "typical incident." Should never be allowed on a car or on a bike as a cop again.

Did you bother to consider that this is a professional motorcycle rider with hours of training before he is “qualified”. You are another prime example of a bigoted cop hater. Go with your inner hate voice and try to literally demonize this man when you hate the badge so much you won’t even consider something far less sinister as a causative factor.
