    How would you compare it to Tasman X8?
    Thanks for the great review by the way.

    Please can someone recommend an audio recorder with file recovery ( automatic recording) function, in case of power loss?

    I’m struggling to find the best settings for Zoom H8. I have it connected to the Shure MV7 via Mogami XLR. The audio sounds great but it’s really low. Raising the dB to 7 on the dial introduced to much noise. Any thoughts on what I can do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Never use zoom for any sound.

      Ii should be fine if you record it at a lower level around -12db and then boost it in post, since that's the technique people employ to minimize noise when recording, and if the noise is low, the boosted audio should be also much cleaner as well, and the headphone pre-amps on the zoom recorders are also known to be bad and it introduces a lot of random noise in what you hear, but not recorded, so hearing it directly from the headphone jack might paint a less accurate picture of how it actually sounds
      but if you still have problems with noise you might need to get a cloudlifter since a device in H8's price point may not have the best pre-amps in a recorder and the MV7 is a Dynamic mic which is a passive mic, but on active mics that use 48v phantom power, it will sound much better since it will receive a loud enough signal to keep the gain relatively low

    Can I use the Zoom H8 for filming with my RODE NTG5????

      Yes, you can use the Zoom H8 recorder with the RODE NTG5 microphone. The Zoom H8 has XLR/TRS combo jacks that are compatible with the NTG5, and it provides phantom power required by the microphone. Just ensure you have the appropriate XLR cable for the connection. Happy filming!

    Thanks for the info. It's kind of ironic though since your audio is barely understandable.

    I had zoom H6, it was the worst recorder i ever had since it has no frame rate, its great for silence film.

      @naruto5046 Před 2 lety +5

      I can confidently say you don't actually know how to use a recorder, and you probably just bought a good enough recorder so that whatever problems you encounter becomes a small enough problem you can ignore, cause no boom operator nor audio engineer use the term "frame-rate" for recorders since it's not a camera, and the audio from the H6 will only drift a few milliseconds after continuous recording of 24 hours
