It's crazy how the 90s was full of buried artists like this. Little nuggets of genius. Would love to know what happened to these guys

Because you can't make any money when everyone uploads your music to the Internet for free. Sad now you can heavily reap the rewards of your music being on every conceivable platform possible and collect your royalties.

And sure as shit wouldn't make a dime selling music on vinyl. The internet is the best thing that happened to the music industry. Twenty++ years ago SoulSeek was the only way to find underground stuff.
Now I'm drowning in it, and pay for it when I can.

Not only that people making commercial rap gets the gun clap lol now a days the music has a agenda. Stuff like this is pure if it’s not talking about sex, drugs, money it will never play. Nothing like 90s Hip Hop

@@theblackknight5732 this came out in 95, illegal downloads weren't really an issue back then. That came later.
Hip Hop back then wasn't really as popular as it is today, not as a mainstream public choice. So the artists that did this kind of music had to be in it for the art, not the money. I think that's really what made the 90's so different in terms of the quality of independent hip hop music.

there is this hip hop group that existed in atlanta and it was called “yall so stupid”. everything about their first (and only) album “van full of pakistans” is absolutely amazing and it saddens me that the album didnt get the publicity it deserved. skater rappers in 93 is something kind of rare. you saying you wonder what these people are doing nowadays, like exactly bro i think the same things.

I hear a lot about the golden era and 90s hip hop. I'm a fan of all the popular hip hop that came out during that time (de la soul, nas, wu tang, PR&CL, and I call it popular cause their music from that time is all well known). But all the underground artists as well that put out music during this time is what makes this era so great for me, hip hop wasn't at it's 'peak' so to speak solely because of a few good artists/groups.. i'd say it was the collective that made it amazing in my opinion.

The problem is getting old school type producers for this type of lyricist young artist. Not that many great producers out there crafting art. They're not putting the work to put themselves out there and find the right pieces for some great hip hop connection.

THIS IS HIP HOP... i first goT into the culture in 1999.. i was 15 then.. i'll be 31 this summer, ii got my first blackbook in 99... still at it... i'm orginally from southern california... hip hop was a culture when u went to a show or any of the elements it was representin proper.. after the early early 2000's hip hop got freakin stale.... i used love gospel rap, but that ish is GARbABE... the only new current hip hop i bump is la symphony- you still on earth illustrate and DJ JS-1- it is what it isn't... FUCK THAT DANCE POP BULLSHIT PEACE PSWIF ONE FOREVER god bless you!

When you look back at all the freedom rapper's had in the US back then you can't help but get angry with the way US hip hop as gone. As a bystander in the UK when I hear this new jack dirty south bollox Lil wayne and whatever their names it is hard to understand how America has bought into that shit. It is simply awful music. No poetry, no clever vocab, no lovely samples just lots of visual sexual stimulation and pricks wearing bling and looking feminine. I find it sad. I hope I live to see a revolution in American rap music. What is there that is fresh nowadays - it is all to safe and formulaic. If I were from the US I would be kickin up a fuss because the shit is fucked up on a double dutch lol

***** You have a point - new genres of music emerge all the time. Perhaps I should not critique a declining genre but what is coming in replacement?. I don't see a new movement comparable to rock n roll or hip hop ermerging.I like hip hop as an art form. For me as a rapper myself it is more than just a genre but an ancient form of expression in some ways. People have been rhyming for many millennia. It is not comparable to country and western as a genre in my view. My point is really that if there was some new genres equivalent to hip hop or rock n roll emerging then I would not be nearly as critical of the current nonsense hip hop that is prevalent in the year 2014.
