  • The Kłodzko Fortress is a monument of military art on a global scale. It is worth spending one day to learn about the history of this place and discover its secrets.
In the 10th century, the town lying on the trade route was enriched with a fortified town. At the beginning of the 12th century, the Czech prince Sobiesław captured and burned it, but he quickly rebuilt it in a similar style. It was not until the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries that Prince Henry IV Probus rebuilt the stronghold into a fortified castle. Since then, it has become the seat of the Piasts ruling the Kłodzko Land. As early as in the second half of the 16th century, the Fortress was expanded to include a middle and lower castle, which testified to the increased importance of Kłodzko. Further fortifications of the Fortress were carried out at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, when the defensive walls were replaced with curtains and bastions.
