The Benson Germanium Boost is one of those pedals that never drifts far from my board. Its ability to enrich clean tones, bolster overdrives, and rip amps has made it a staple of almost every board I build. The subtle color and compression the germanium offers makes it invaluable for offering a sense of analog warmth to a digital rig. And, as I learn in the making of this video, it also serves to create a unique and excellent punchiness on bass, MOOG, and even a full stereo drum bus.
It really is like the coolest pedal.

I've seen you rave about the Benson Boost for years, and I've come to really refine what I look for in my own tones thanks to your channel, Ambient Endeavors and some others. I've held off on a boost for a long time (or at least on a dedicated boost) and finally after this video decided to get one (in the LBE exclusive color-way of course). Man... this thing will never leave my main board and will never be turned off. I really just can't go back lol. At first I don't think I understood the attention it got, at least not fully. But the more I played without paying attention to it the more I felt comfortable with it. Then I turned it off and I realized how much it was actually doing for me. What a discrete but powerful tool, expertly demonstrated in this video.
I got the Benson preamp and germanium boost based on your original demos and they are the foundation of every board I put together. Great follow up!
This is the best gear review channel thanks for the inspiring work
inspiring stuff as always my friend. and I'm the fool for taking this long to get you a POWDER BLUE SPARKLE one! ha.
I got mine a few days ago and it surprised me how amazing it sounds! I didn't expect that from a "simple" boost pedal. Couldn't agree more with your video:) Thanks Mark!
It’s the best pedal
Can't argue with you there. I'm only just discovering it at the moment, but I already LOVE that it can also lower volume but with its magic-sauce. I went into a high-gain Friedman IR-X with a Celestion G12-80 Classic Lead IR (Bonamassa style) and rolled off the pedals volume and its just releases the funk-kraken :D. This thing is insane!

Running it back to watch, could you make more videos on showing us how to build songs as far as recording them goes and maybe how to get stated recording our own music including bass
On my channel I have a playlist of studio tutorials that has some videos on various parts of my recording / mixing workflow
@@markjohnstonofficialohh ok awesome! Ima watch them now thanks Mark!
Mmmm Morgan amp, good? Sounds good, also saw their tweed model!
interesting. what if you run the synths through the boosts without the canvas reamp boxes? you'd get a line level going throught the boosts, will that not work?
What patch bay do you use
Giving me Tycho but harder vibes
I need to get way deeper into automation for that haha
Great video, but that X-files soundtrack while you are talking is equally distractive and creepy. Since you say something interesting, there is really no need for it (IMHO)...
I think it’s fine but it’s a bit too loud. Maybe a bit lower and it’ll balance out, the overall sound mix and quality is great.
It’s effective for making background noise aka my wife’s work phone calls in the next room. Honestly that’s almost entirely the point of the music beds I make for the talking points.
"Creepy"? What?
Music is fine.
I fart germanium farts
Prove it
it's concerning..
@@18JR78 it requires sticking a 1/4 cable up each nostril. then push real hard.
