You sound better on that violin not tuned than I do on mine (of, course)! I think it's wonderful of you to be helping others by donating your time and instruments. I bought a cheap violin from a thrift store to give to someone that can't afford one and I'm trying to make it play better (new strings, new bow, ebony chin rest, better shoulder rest, etc.). It doesn't sound bad now, and that's with me playing it!

For your information, Black Diamond is a popular brand of guitar, banjo and fiddle (violin) strings here in the US, especially with bluegrass and folk musicians. They are legendary with bluegrass musicians.

in China that originally retailed on Amazon for $29.95 (US). The reason why I know this is because I purchased one just like it on Amazon many moons ago. But mine is a 4/4. It came with a case, bow, extra set of steel strings, and a small cake of rosin. And
believe it or not, it still plays; and when I'm not playing it, it makes for a nice decorative wall hanger. 😊 🎻 ♫

The bridge is placed too close to the fingerboard!! I'm pretty shocked that you play on it without even moving the bridge a bit closer the tailpiece before.. It's quite dangerous to have such uneven tension, because of the wrong positioning of the bridge, even for a cheap violin like this...

Hello Ester, I have just received the Stentor II, but I cannot play it...You should show us how you tune the violin and how you give the rosin (pitch) on the bow...its not so easy for us beginners.
I'd love to hear that violin with dominants or tonicas just to see what it'd sound like. Would you change them if they were sent to you?

Le chevalet est pas trop avancé ? Il me paraît être après la moitié des ouïes. Cela dit c'est super ce don ça fera un heureux ou une heureuse ! Le miracle qu'il soit arrivé en 1 morceau dans une boîte en carton !!

Dear Esther, the bridge has to be placed properly. The correct position is the center between the two outer notches of the f-holes. The bridge is placed to far away towards the fingerboard.
As someone else said, this violin is a cheaper one, maybe made in China. The selection of the wood along with the applied varnish does not make it a master piece. But, anyway it is a gentle donation to people who cannot afford an instrument.
