As a Thai, I see first hand the prosperity brought by Kunming - Laos railway to Nongkhai, a Thai city located on the mighty Mekong River. Suddenly, it becomes a very important inland port, not to mention the filtering down benefits to other parts of Thailand. Eventually, this railway will extend all the way through Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Instead of being negative on such Belts and Roads projects, the governments of Western nations should seize this opportunity to help their own private companies to ride on this prosperity.
Not just Laos, Indonesia also gained a fast train railroad thru the Belt and Road Initiative, this rail will bring great economical benefits to millions of Indonesians.

It was kicked out from a predominant Malay country, Malaysia and NOT China. Don't conflate the issue. Till the 1980s, Taiwan was frequently mentioned in the TV as a province of China. Taiwan is altogether a different issue, the civil war has not ended officially since 1949. ROC with a small population (Taiwan) was in the 5 PERMANENT security council members representing also China mainland until 1971. The anomaly was rightfully corrected. ROC constitution states it is part of mainland China. Article 26 (ROC constitution) mentioned how Mongolia,Tibet and the frontier regions shall be elected. So, Taiwan is part of China whether you want to call it PRC or ROC, it does not make a difference.
