      Peacing out with Iran? Hardly likely, Iran is Shia and Saudi is considering itself as the leader of Sunni Muslims. Shia and Sunni have been fighting each others for more than 1400 years. I don't think that will stop just like that. Perhaps they will chill out for a year or two but in the long run they won't be friends unless there would be a religious shift in one of the countries.

    • @cole590
      @cole590 Před 9 měsíci +4

      Actually ignoring them is what strengthened Iran in the first place. The Bush administration ignored them even though they were constantly training/supporting terror groups in Iraq and other regions. When I was deployed there in 04 it was obvious as day that Iran was doing exactly what we were accusing Iraq of doing (developing Nukes/State sponsored terrorism) yet leadership turned a blind eye. Iran grew to be one of the strongest countries in the middle east during that time. Obama's administration didnt exactly ignore them, but instead empowered them overtly. The Iranian nuclear deal was HORRIBLE. Trump's administration pulling out of the deal, reinstating sanctions and the Solemani strike was good, but more could've been done. Bidens administration is trying to replay Obama's strategy (which is why relations with Saudi Arabia have deteriorated in the first place). Iran has proven time and time again that ignoring them or slaps on the wrist won't deter them. I'm not calling for a full scale conflict with them, but a heavier hand should definitely be applied.

    I don't understand the teaming up against Iran part as Saudi and Iran already normalized relations quite recently, don't see how they'd go through all that effort to side with Israel against Iran after all the time they spent to get back to semi-friendly relations.

    • @jesseberg3271
      @jesseberg3271 Před 9 měsíci +135

      They only agreed to normalize relations because the Chinese were dangling concessions in front of them. Iran and the Saudis both took China up on its offer, but neither of them really meant it. Besides, all normalizing relations means is that they go back to having ambassadors in each other's capitals. The US had ambassadors in Moscow and the Soviets had ambassadors in Washington all throughout the Cold War. That's basically what Iran and the Saudis are in, a cold war, and they're still very much in one now.

    • @Nawaf-qk9mu
      @Nawaf-qk9mu Před 9 měsíci

      Well, realise all this information is sourced from either the United States or Israel, two countries that have been saying Saudi is close to normalization forever now.
      It is very likely a lot of it is propaganda on their part. Esspecially Israel, who likes to pretend it's much more buddy-buddy with Saudi than it actually is as a way to maintain some face.
      Furthermore both have tremendous incentive to do so, Israel esspecially. Their domestic problems are flaring up, and the government "teasing" a "victory" soon is probably an important tool to maintain some stability and support through all the chaos.
      And THIS much less but still true in the US. Many fear they've lost control over Saudi, that it's not joining BRICS to shift global power, controlling oil prices during a recession, etc etc. To give the indication of "Hey, we still got them on our side!" sort is key to dampen those worries.

      This is a temporary measure. Proxy wars between Iran and Saudi Arabia have been immensely costly for both sides, but that hasn’t truly dissuaded them from engaging in them. Active hostility will likely decline in the coming years while they reorganize, but neither regime trusts the other to truly maintain peace longterm. Iran and Saudi Arabia are still firm enemies, they’re just in a short-term detente. Both will be jockeying for influence and allies in the mean time, they just might not be firing missiles at eachother’s proxies, maybe.

As long as Palestinians are denied sovereignty and statehood I doubt any ruler no matter how undemocratic will risk the wrath of the masses. The Palestinians issue is important to the people of the Middle East.

Look at every Arab government's response to every single move Israel makes on their border settlements and so forth since 1973. Do they threaten war like North Korea does on a weekly basis? No. They sit and accept it like good boys because they know that they can't afford an actual war with Israel and that trade and economy stability matters more. Even al-Assad's regime has some understanding with Israel on this. Normalized relations are just an end result of decades of relative stability and realpolitik, regardless of what "the people" want.
