- OJ Simpson died at the age of 76 after a battle with prostate cancer.
His athletic accomplishments were overshadowed in 1994 after the murder of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ron Goldman, outside of her Brentwood, California home.
The defense team led by the late Johnnie Cochran convinced the jury to acquit the Pro Football Hall of Famer.
Carl Douglas was also on OJ's legal team, he spoke with Roland Martin about what has been dubbed "The Trial Of The Century", the legacy of "Juice" and his friend Johnnie Cochran.

Robert Shapiro was mad, because Johnnie Cochran got.most of the praises, after the verdict,Robert was basically forgotten, meanwhile Johnnie became a bigger superstar attorney
It was rumored that Johnnie didn’t receive one dime from OJ & due to the severity of racial tension, Johnnie kept the betrayal hush-hush. OJ told Johnnie to use “notoriety” to his advantage.
That's because Johnny Cochran ran that courtroom and had Judge Ito wrapped around his finger.

I really enjoyed this interview. The defense out played and out lawyered the Prosecution. They needed their own version of Johnny Cochran, and Chris Darden was not that dude.
But you know they thought any old person would do...but found out!
You know, I don't think OJ meant that he didn't want to have anything to do with black people when he made that comment. I think he was arrogant by thinking he's so well loved that people don't see color when they see him.
Carl Douglas was right on point when he says the burden of proof is on the prosecution. Johnnie & Carl ‘s team demonstrated the prosecution didn’t make their case and for once the system worked like it was intended, this time for a minority. Even law enforcement had to agree.
Rejoicing Johnnie Crochran... Johnnie did that...❤ Rest Easy, Brother Johnny... The GREATEST lawyer in our time...
Excellent interview! Thanks!
That was great thanks Roland may God continue to bless you
Carl, you and your wife were my next-door/across-the-street neighbors, in Windsor Hills, CA. I appreciate you, as a person, a defender of civil rights and social justice. I'm Dr. Anthony Battle, a TSU Thurgood Marshall Law School graduate. OJ & Nicole were both welcoming hosts at their home. My brother, live long, enjoy life and you have done well.
Next theyll say i invented mdma and bombed hiroshima

Man! I can listen brother Douglas all day! This brother is a genius.
A genius of manipulation, without a doubt. He admitted he changed the pictures that were framed on Simpson's walls so the jury would see him differently. Simpson only had pictures of him with rich White people on his walls. Douglas and his team replaced them with pictures of him with Black people and a big painting that belonged to Johnny Cochran. This man is a thug who protected a murderer just because he was Black.
Kudos to attorney Carl Douglas and the Dream Team. Johnny Cochran and The Dream Team did that. Looking Carl, that trial didn't stress you out.😊
This is the best coverage so far may Peace Be Upon OJ and Johnnie Cochran!!
I always wondered even as a teen back then if White America would be this outraged if Nicole was black woman. ? !! Just a question I always wondered.
You already know the answer, also it wasn’t the fact that she is 👱🏻♀️ it was the fact that OJ was 🧔🏾♂️
No they wouldn’t have gave two flip flops, and a sock. They probably would have saying he didn’t do it.
They wouldn't give a shit!

You're right in your thinking. We all had that same question but we know the answer.
Blk people only supported him for the trail, but trust after that was done, we went back to talking about O.J. not being blk. lol
😂😂😂😂😂
I’m not even sure if it was that. I was a teenager in the 90s, so I remember this trial like it was yesterday. A lot of us wanted Johnnie Cochran to win even more than we cared about whether O.J. went to jail or not. lol
I was pissed at OJ because when he got acquitted and he did not attend the Million Man watch 😤 it was the first one and black people wanted to see him go as a thank you for all the black support, but he turned back into a white guy after the trial. But white folks still hated him
YUUUPP!
Great conversation 👍🏽✌🏾👊🏾
Very intelligent man. His respect for his late mentor Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. is so honorable. I can attest to the brilliant mind of Mr. Cochran. In 1996 or 1997, Mr. Cochran 'preached' a sermon at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit. The church I was actively attending at the time. He barely spoke of the O.J. case. If at all. I will never forget the Book of the Bible he spoke from: It was from the Book of Amos. His delivery was just astonishing. The fact that he rarely viewed his prepared text, simply floored me. He could have easily been a minister. He was truly a remarkable human being. May both men rest in peace.
OJ outsmarted those drug dealers masquerading as police officers by drawing attention to himself, they wanted him dead, had he turned himself over to them they were going to silence him by whatever means, because he knew of their shady deeds... Furhman and his cronies tried setting up an innocent man...
OJ is among the greats that ever played the sport...RIP OJ
OJ was a murderer. F*** him.
Wait the officers sold drugs?
People have a right to their own opinion about the OJ Simpson case, but I personally watched the trial every single day... it was my guilty pleasure....and they did not have an IOTA of evidence against OJ!
None of his blood was found at the sceneand none of the victims blood was found at his home.
A neighbor saw his car parked at his home at the time the prosecution said he was over at Nicole's house.
Nicole's neighbor saw four Latino looking men running from her place at the time her dark started barking wildly when they suspected the incident was taking place.
Furthermore, no murder weapons found and I say weaponS because the coroner stated more than one knife was used based on the cuts...some smooth, some not.
The prosecution was caught after it PLANTED evidence on the sock, doir handle on Bronco which was proven when EDTA a preservative used for DNA was found in the blood!
Furhman...a notoriously bad cop... committed perjury on the stand. The timeline was impossible... 30 minutes to commit double homicide, druve home, clean up and make it to the airport for a pre-planned business trip!
And their motive was insane...they say he killed these two people because Nicole refused to invite him to dinner after attending their daughter's dance recital!
In the words of the late great Johnny Cochran If It Don't Fit you must acquit! And NONE of what they presented fit.
Thank you for these details.
The OJ Simpson trial is wholly-saturated with narrative about OJ being guilty that the vast majority of people no longer care about the facts. And the greatest miscarriage is that Nicole's and Ron's killers are still unknown and free.
I agree with above. I also watched the entire trial. I saw OJ.wince him he picked up his son. I don't think he was super man. No way he could have killed two people in the his arthritic condition. White wanted to believe that he hated the fact that this man wanted One white woman so badly that he killed her.
Gimme a break 🙄
OJ’s blood was found all over the crime scene, and in the Bronco. OJ left a blood trail leaving the crime scene, plus his size 12 bloody shoe prints, plus his extra large size bloody glove.
Ron and Nicole’s blood was found inside the Bronco.
Another of OJ’s gloves was found at his home with Ron and Nicole’s and OJ’s blood on it. There was a blood trail on OJ’s driveway and blood drops in his home. Plus socks with OJ and Nicole’s blood on them.
Hair samples that matched Nicole and Ron were found on a bloody cap, and on the gloves.
It’s impossible for a “ racist cop “ to have planted that mountain of evidence to frame OJ.
@@christopherblack3102 That's a LIE. OJ's blood was NOT found at the murder scene! Where would the blood come from? Where was the wound that it leaked from?
The victims were cut...not OJ! Nicole was almost decapitated...so blood was flowing like a river. OJ couldn't have cleared or cleaned that amount off himself in the tight timelines they gave him, which was 30 MINUTES to drive there, commit double homicide, clean up, ditch his clothes and the multiple weapons, and get to LAX to catch his flight?
Furthermore the police through luminol all over Oj's white decorated home AND took his plumbing apart...and didn't find an OUNCE of blood anywhere. No blood from the victims at his home; none of his blood at Nicole's home; no eye witnesses; no weapons found! No blood in the Bronco!!! So if your theory is correct, that OJ's blood was all over the crime scene...why was NONE found inside or outside the Bronco? How did he get home? Float?
OJ voluntarily gave the prosecutors blood to test his DNA. He gave a specific amount, which a registered nurse recorded in a form. After Fuhrman's lies imploded they suddenly "found" a dab of blood on a sock and outside the Bronco on the door handle.
The problem was that JC checked the form and found that some of the blood left over from what OJ gave for testing was GONE.
So he demanded they test the sock and door handle to see if EDTA, a preservative for the blood was present.
And voila! EDTA was present so the blood had to come from the vials of blood OJ gave for testing...because HUMANS DON'T BLEED EDTA! So everyone knew it was dabbed and PLANTED to help save their WEAK CASE.
Dr. Henry Lee brought it home when he said the blood stain was IDENTICAL on the left and right side...and if a foot, ankle, leg was in the sock it would have blocked the transfer from one side to the other.
@@christopherblack3102 There was no MOUNTAIN, it wasn't even a pebble, that's the lie the biased media told you to keep their ratings high. And in case you were late to the party, the GLOVE DIDN'T FIT...and FUHRMAN took the 5th because he got caught LIEING on the stand. He was a notoriously racist cop.
Folks were mad about the Rodney King verdict, the OJ trial just happened at the right time

When they took the jury to tour OJ’s house, they changed all the photos on the walls from OJ with white people, to OJ with black friends.
So they made it appear as if OJ was black again.
That’s why this guy is sickening with his shit eating grin.
He found out
I’m an 80s baby, so I remember the O.J. trial like it was yesterday. Most of the people my age were too young to see O.J. on the football field. We saw him more as a sideline reporter who also was in movies and commercials. We saw him when he would make public appearances with his white wife, and we noticed how he never spoke on black issues. So he wasn’t a hero to a lot of us. O.J. was just lucky enough to have his trial in L.A.,which resulted in 8 of the 11 jurors being black. A lot of us were still upset over the Rodney King verdict. And lastly, Johnnie Cochran became a hero to a lot of us literally overnight due to that trial.
Big factor was the jurisdiction for sure but the prosecution made a LOT of mistakes - not the least of which was Marcia Clark completely misread that jury she thought because she was a woman and there were a lot of women on the jury - many who were middle aged black women - that they would be very sympathetic to domestic violence. But because this was a pretty white woman - who stole a successful black man - -all those women were thinking was - looks good on you bitch - that showed through years later some of those jurors as much to admitted it
Lol, wait until you learn that the AG Garcetti only moved the case to LA from Santa Monica b/c the rich all white grand jury refused to indict OJ 18-0.
Powerful information
The best interview yet
I was a 17yr old father of 4 month old at the time. I can remember after school and work, watching the coverage often while I had my son. I just happened to be sitting in the middle of homeroom, the dividing row between the black students and white ones. The reactions couldn't of been more different. It was surreal after I thought about it years later.
the legend of Johnnie Cochran and Carl Douglas has NEVER died - before nor after Mr Cochran’s transition and anyone in Los Angeles (or beyond) who invests in themselves legally should know exactly where to dial, in time of need
Mr Douglas took the helm of The Cochran Firm, I remember - beyond my years in attendance at the junior high directly across the street (where I was enrolled at the exact time of the 1992 L.A. unrest), and because … that is where I immediately called when I needed legal assistance, when a young attorney, Hicks, picked up the line
Cochran and Douglas will forever live as, The Dream Team … not just for OJ and not first for OJ, but for the people!

I saw a man, Keith Zlomsowitch in an interview saying he was Nicole's ex. I also saw him in a interview as Ron Hardy with the same story about OJ stalking Nicole and him. He also blamed OJ for standing in the way of him continuing to see Nicole. Zlomsowitch/Hardy and Ron Goldman were co-workers. He and Kris Jenner were the first to say a black man did it. I was surprised to see Nancy Grace find and interview him after OJ died. She still adamantly says OJ did it as if she was an eyewitness.
I say it was a rush to judgement so evidence was manufactured and the domestic violence allegation was utilized to say that's proof that he did it.

He had the best defense Money could buy. Whenever you have a Body no Witnesses no Murder Weapon that makes it not a Proponderance of evidence and according to the Law he had to be found not guilty. It will always be a Mystery as to what really happened.
There was mountains of evidence. Go read
@@bratjr60There were mountains of reasonable doubt as well!
@@bratjr60 Two problems, though, according to an investigative reporter who saw the crime scene: Lots of blood and indications of an huge struggle. 1) The next day physical exam on OJ showed no bruises or cuts except one small cut to his finger. 2) The glove the defense said OJ wore had no cut on the outside and none of OJ's blood inside.
This implies he might not have been the killer. Or at least enough to cast a shade of a doubt in the mind of at least one juror. And if you've ever served jury duty, you know that one hold out can derail the entire thing.

R.I.P. to the greatest running back of all time. 🕯
Orenthal James (O.J) Simpson was and still is a hero for many of us growing up Black. For all of us in Central District Seattle, O.J. never stopped being an icon. We didn't care about him trying to escape from being Black. We all struggle with the identity that does not recognize us as human -- and never has.
“I can’t think what this trial DIDN’T Have.” 💯💯
This was a great discussion. But,I don't think or like O.J being described as a Black American icon who bridged a gap between Black and White relations. He wasn't. Even though this case was remarkable for so many reasons and still a sore loss to the dominant society. O.J tried to go back to his world of make believe after finding out he was just Black man and a pariah to his friends and associates.
You guys need to get out of y'all feelings and emotions about OJ. The truth of the matter is he did Bridge the gap between Black and white relationships and he did way more good than bad. You guys are just hurt and manipulated by the media because of his domestic violence which was perpetrated by both parties but only OJ was exploited. I don't know what "just a Black man" means but for some reason America is very jealous and envious of Black man to the point where they would lie and pour tainted blood all over a crime scene and then cry Bloody Murder! OJ Simpson had a lot of friends despite what the media portrayed and he was gangster. He had friends that would take you out if you fucked with him or steal from him. OJ was truly loved by his friends. You guys are sick people that follow your peers and not truth nor Justice.

Yeah in your opinion right no blood of two dead people in the truck no cut in the Gloves you sure forget about that pone
How can you be tried and found liable in civil court for something you were found not guilty of?
You are absolutely right. Unfortunately white supremacists had the power to make this happen. They wanted to get O.J. one way or another.
Different standards and oj had to take the stand in the civil suit. It didn't go well for the double murderer
Carl Douglas is a disgrace.
What about the news about Glen Rodgers?
Cochran disliked the police as much as NWA did. One of the baddest lawyers to suit up for war in a courtroom as a trial lawyer Black or White, Mr. Johnny Cochran. May God be pleased with him and OJ Simpson who was acquitted of double murder and still looked at as a murderer. When the justice system works in White peoples favor it’s the best judicial system in the world, but when it works in a favor of Black people, it’s a flawed system that needs to be readjusted. I just had on a channel just now where the host were drilling the trial lawyer of Simpson demanding to know why hadn’t the trial been held in Santa Monica because there would’ve been a much much more whiter jury than LA and he would’ve most likely spent the rest of his life in prison. If that’s not a white supremacist way of looking at things, I don’t know what is. Basically, saying he would’ve been hung by an all white jury for the murder of Nicole and Ron. remember it was one of those towns outside of LA like Santa Monica, that acquitted the cops that beat Rodney King dam near to death. Plus, Black people weren’t cheering for OJ, we were cheering that white people were getting a taste of the justice system that we are subjected to on a daily with the injustice. OJ was a sellout to his community and once told his friend Al Collins that he can screw all the white women in the Klan because he’s not Black he’s OJ. He just was accepted back by Cam and Mase but if he was still on the other side with all the options he had before he probably would’ve did them like Michael Jordan did to Chamillionaire when he spent $15G for a Mj jersey and asked him to sign it, “F#*k Rap”.
I don't like MJ
I always loved and respected OJ. I never saw him as anything other than an American icon. He was American hero and will be missed. All the negative talk needs to stop and let's send his condolences to his family.
A former LA Sherrif officer told me this was a Columbia crime because of monies owed the drug cartel because O J refused to keep paying Nicole cocaine. Bill.this Deputy Sherriff was in the dept at that time.He called a Columbian neck tie tie
That's the part of the evidence the judge didn't let in....that Nicole was a party girl that ran with s very bad crowd. And, yes, drugs were part of this and what happened to her. OJ was just a convenient scapegoat because those cops jumped to conclusions and didn't thoroughly investigate.
AND THERE IT IS!
Simpson was aware of who the perpetrators were, may even had been there, and attempted to intervene and failed, but didn't kill anyone.
Almost immediately after the news reports of the details on how the bodies of Brown-Simpson/Goldman were found, the word on the street in Los Angeles was that it was an illegal narcotics related crime.
And I mean IMMEDIATELY!
Many years later when I actually had the time and interest to watch the available chronological reports, the trial and the subsequent commentaries here on CZcams and I came to my opinionated conclusion that if the prosecutors had discovered or better said revealed the illegal narcotics supplier's to Goldman and the other waiters who reportedly sold to Brown-Simpson and other patrons at the Mezza Luna restaurant you would find the murderers.

No OJ Simpson's son was the killer and they have known this and by faith I mean the Los Angeles police department have known he was the killer since 1994
Simpson was famously acquitted: The gloves didn't fit. But in the civil trial, the shoes did. He was a slimeball for posing as a friend to OJ and attorney on the defense team. If he thought he was guilty he shouldn't have been on the team. He had other options.
It’s complicated because Kardashian had known OJ for a very long time before the murders.
His kids called Simpson “ Uncle OJ “. He didn’t want to think OJ was guilty of such a horrific crime.

@brettshepherd5240 I don't view things in black and white. I view it as right and wrong ! Yep, what happened to Emmett Till was downright disgraceful, and the judge and jury will face the ultimate judge who can not be bribed !
@@brettshepherd5240 this isn't jeopardy is it ? - did you say - Alex I'll take false equivalence for $1000 ?
@@kmyles8599 yes that is our system whether you like it or not - that is the role he was cast to play . The reality is the police were on trial much more than OJ ever was in this case. And I think a reasonable person especially today can see why. Unfortunately society at large has never been able to accept some hard truths about it and subsequently we are no better and probably sadly much worse since.
Disgusting how this lawyer talks about celebrating and no regards for Nicole and Ron . Nicole and Ron were butchered . Disappointing
Be realistic you would feel good about working with a great person. It's feels like being close to heaven. Don't be a hater.😮😂
@@rosalynmonell1430 I wouldn’t feel good working for a human butcher defender. No respect for Nicole’s and Ron’s family. By, the way you already judged me and call me a hater. Just think how you would feel if your sister, mother or brother were butchered and after so many years you see people laughing and celebrating
It's their job.......to get off a innocent man like OJ
He is not celebrating, that's your distorted take.
You all talking to Carl Douglas like he's a hero. Hypocrites. I guess William Barr . Michael Flynn , Alan Darchowitz, Marjory Taylor Green are heroes too for defending Trump.
tRump is a serial killer compare him to Jeffrey Dahmer

Like you people celebrated your people killing 14 year old Emmitt Till?
Are you black? Or do you just like being an agitator in black spaces?
"You people"? That's mighty racist of you.
You people are just mad because you couldn’t get your way boo hoo😢
If you charge my black folks, I’m black and I’ve been saying he was guilty from the very beginning so don’t put that shit on me
