Yeah even with those 3 months its not worth paying a cent to slow down my internet speed to protect myself from nothing.
If you use a VPN for privacy, I have plenty of my own protection software you can buy too, it will protect you from all of the hackers trying to steal your useless recipes and photos. For only $9999 you can never be too safe on the internet.
Dude, please do some research on what these VPN’s actually do… the amount of fake information provided by these sponsorships is just silly and makes you look silly

Today is a blessed day to me and my partners we both finally tested Hiv negative thanks so much Dr Abiola #drabiola
If I had a nickel for every time the UK government caused a scandal they then covered up involving infecting their citzens with a deadly disease that spreads through blood, I'd have (at least) two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
There was that time the RAF were spraying anthrax from high altitude. No people were infected.
And then there's Gruinard Island (Anthrax island). Used from 1942 to test biological weapons on animals, which was allegedly decontaminated in 1990...
Dunno if they count, but that gotta be a dollar if they do?
@@Rachel_M_ its still advised not to go to the island without ppe and wildlife could still be affected,
@@yeahme8367 even if they said it was as pure as the driven snow I still wouldn't risk it...
And that's just in recent times.
Remember when the whole mad cow disease thing? That was messed up.
"We won't know until May of 2024..."

And yet, things are still the same in some ways. Many countries proudly boast to their citizens they don't allow paid plasma donations, while leaving out that they rely on imports for blood products from countries that do. 89% of the world supply for plasma products comes from paid donations. The average person in the UK or similar countries needs to step up their unpaid plasma donations if they want to be in control of their plasma supply.
What really concerns me is that with some of the new drugs that reduce the HIV virus to an undetectable level, but doesn't really eradicate it, some people might be donating blood that is infected with the HIV virus and it won't be detected when the blood is tested. It could still infect a recipient of the blood and cause them to develop AIDS in later life.
Agreed, though I think it's important we don't pay like the US does. I quite like the idea I heard from an Indian donor where those who donate are given priority of they themselves require a blood transfusion. I believe this is less likely to encourage dishonesty while increasing the donor pool. In Australia only 3% of the population are registered donors while 30% of Aussies will require a transfusion in their life, and though it's one of the safest supplies in the world plasma demand is not fully met from local sources.
I feel it should be mandated that all eligible citizens donate, I'm sick if the selfish and often ignorant attitudes that many have.. Until they need the blood to live themselves. Even then many won't give back. People annoy me lol
I really don't get why some people are so sanctimonious about not paying for blood product donations. "But paying takes advantage of the poor and gets them to sell literal body parts!" Kick rocks. I rent my body every day I go to work. Why's this any different? That money's pulled me out of a bind before! I, one of the poor people in question, am happy that I have this recourse in a society that already fucks me over! "But that incentivizes people to lie!" We have tests for diseases, and without payment, there's clearly an incentive problem for all the eligible donors since those oh so high and mighty and safe nations buy blood products from incentivizing countries anyways
@@dancingcoguar I get what you're saying, but not all of it is picked up by testing either before blood is used or at all depending on pathology. The fact is that countries who don't pay are demonstrably more reliable than those that do. Hard to argue about you not deserving money for your time especially if living in a country that would happily charge an arm and a leg if you needed blood yourself, but hope you can see it as an overall issue with that healthcare system rather than the specific areas dealing with blood donation.
I certainly feel lucky to live in a country that has provided healthcare at low or no cost, and also happens to have one of the safest blood supplies in the world.
I can't give blood the NHS secretly gave me massive transfusion so I can't help ya soz. They owe me lots for that anyway.
Similar thing happened in France. And yet, there were no real consequences for the politicians involved, like Laurent Fabius. It's called l'affaire du sang contaminé here.
I am a law student and we did study this during our course in responsabilité civile. Let’s just say that the real responsible were never punished for damaging the health of the population.
There were some issues with contaminated blood here in Portugal, as well. I don't know what came of it, but I've heard people talk about it
And these same people were all back in parliament the next day after their "apology" laughing and smiling. Disgusting.
My dad was a Blood Bank Supervisor in the USA in the 80s and he told me he was worried about contamination of the blood supply in the early 80s in the USA.
They have to do a blood test now. We haven't had tainted blood in decades.
@@HollylivengoodDon’t say that cause my sister recently had a scare with this…
@@ninjagirl226 "Don't say that." Who are you, the queen of CZcams? We all must obey you? Yes, everyone selling plasma now has to take a blood test before the blood draw. It's an ugly business that preys on the poor, I totally agree, but there are huge safety standards now. You don't get tainted blood from the US nowadays, so there's plenty for you guys to buy, as well as renting our military, getting grants from us for businesses, schools, food programs. Do you realize that? You guys complain about us all the time, but then accept all our stuff like a teenager. I mean, I'm glad we can provide aid that people need, but it would be great if y'all could drop the moody routine.
@@ninjagirl226 Probably from India, they also have blood plasma programs. A neighbor of mine is from India, and she used to sell hers. They sold to England. Same kind of thing, targeting the poor. I live in a neighborhood in Tennessee where most of us sell plasma to pay have extra to pay a bill here and there. They target the poor, and homeless, and prisoners who want money for the commissary, which is extra food. They don't get enough to eat in prison, so they sell plasma so they can get extra. Now days, they have to do a blood test and keep up with their well checkups, and have paperwork about it. I've tried, but I'm too squeamish, and pass out for a blood draw.

very similar problem in Canada, we ended up creating a new agency for blood donations and kicked the Red Cross out of that industry
And this is why I’m not allowed to give blood - I had transfusions just after I was born, which was just before the NHS began screening for HIV and Hep C. Thankfully when I got tested later I was clear, but waiting for those results was not fun…
Yeah that doesn't sound fun. Glad you're all good.

My Mom is American, but isn't allowed to give blood because she was in Scotland when Mad cow disease was around.

@Bubbaist Yeah people in the US (or the most vocal online) have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to corporations. They are inherently suspicious of government but the same critical attitude towards corporations hardly exists. Healthcare and capitalism should never meet.
@@Skygrey2943 I live in the US and you're so right. My uncle was a Canadian hemophiliac who got HIV from bad blood and went on to give it to his wife, and their second child was born with it. My uncle died years ago, but his wife and their son are doing ok thanks to new drugs
We live in a strange world, when we expect a greater service from a teenager at a fastfood restaurant, than the politicians and NHS directors in which we entrust our lives.
How is the UK only dealing with this now? Canada had inquiries back in the 90s into 2ks.
The UK government waited for as long as possible hoping that all those affected would have died and thus save money, this policy applied EQUALLY to Conservative and Labour governments and was enforced by the ONE Civil Service !

As a low income American I promise a lot of us need the extra cash to stay afloat but would never dream of lying about blood borne illness
I think some didn't know they had any infections.
Many were unaware of illness (Hepatitis C is very slow); others thought it was "no big deal" that they had spots on their skin (kaposi's sarcoma, the tell-tale mark of AIDS back in the 1970s and 1980s), since it didn't hurt, and sometimes they went away. It wasn't always malicious. It would be like someone with babesia donating today. If they have no symptoms, then they would think they were fine to donate.
Plus HIV was brand new and barely understood. Definitely don’t think it’s the fault of the low income folks!

Totally not the only time that the UK government has done this. If Simon hasn't done a video on the Mad Cow disease cover up yet, I hope he will at some point.
I had an interesting conversation with a surgeon about BSE once. He was convinced it was caused by a neurotoxin that was administered to the spine of cattle to prevent bloatfly infestations which was then spread through the bovine derived cattlefeed. He'd done a massive amount of research on it and was pretty convincing. I'm definitely not smart or knowledgeable enough to debunk it, but it made sense.
The U.K. has a very bad rep regarding blood products. If you want to donate in Spain they ask you whether you have visited or lived in the U.K. between the 80 and 90s. If you say yes they automatically refuse you. Between the mad cows and the blood products they don’t want your potentially contaminated blood 🤣
I work for a major global manufacturer of human plasma-based products. The amount of testing that occurs on every individual donation, as well as during the manufacturing process cannot be overstated. The world has gained a huge amount of knowledge in the biological sciences over the past 50 years, and all of that knowledge is leveraged in the pharmaceutical industry on a daily basis.
Can confirm. When I donate, they first take like seven vials worth of samples before they start filling the bag for the actual donation.
Thinking of everyone who has been affected by this and all of us who are consistently failed by our own governments.
I always wondered about those weirdly litigious blood donation questions… you know, the ones insistently asking if you were engaged in any risky activities in the late 70’s
I just can’t believe governments would choose profit over human lives
Why? It is a core fundamental of the United States across all parts of the government and has been for decades
@@ianmorris7485I think there was an element of sarcasm to his comment bruh.

I used to travel to plasma centers and repair the machines throughout the USA. They absolutely place these centers in low income areas and near colleges. They don't try and hide it either.
Didn’t they (the UK) do this again with Mad Cow Disease?
that was through beef, not blood necessarily.
@@ExperimentIV There many blood donations from people with mad cow and it is proven blood can transmit that disease, this has resulted in bans of blood from the uk being used in multiple countries.
@@ExperimentIV I guess that's why they started feeding the Brits horse meat a while back.
You might also be thinking about the blood donation restriction on Britons, primarily in Europe (I think), that prevents them being able to donate due to the risk of BSE being dormant in the blood.

Donating plasma for money absolutely crossed my mind, and there were only 2 things stopping me:
-I can barely endure blood tests
-I don’t weigh enough
My mom donates both blood and plasma strictly for free, though. Blood donation is *so important,* I feel guilty that I can't do it but am at the same time very grateful I weigh too little to qualify as a donor anyway.
I really do wish blood and plasma donation wasn't so uncomfortable and unsettling to so many people, including myself. We need more donation without pay for it! But at least I am an organ donor, and want my body donated to medical science instead of buried or cremated.
Damn, that's messed up. Never thought or learned about this. Horrifying
Ah yes, the long and storied history of curing an ailment by any means including literal actual death via "side effects"

Greetings from The Netherlands. Again a great vid.
Good day from Ohio USA.
Plasma donation centers are still primarily found in low income areas in the US.
I used to sell my plasma. It paid $20 a pop, but that was a decade and a half ago, so I would assume it pays more now due to inflation. Now I live in an area without any plasma collection centers, so I have to donate my blood for free like a chump .
I sold plasma when I was in college (late '90s to early 2000s). It was a great way to make a quick $20, and there were some donation centers that would allow you to donate twice a week. Sperm donations were another great way to make money. I had good grades and I was healthy, so I could donate up to twice a week. Those donations paid $30-40 each at the time of donation, then another $10-20 when it was sold to someone. It was pretty easy to make $40 - 100 per week selling various fluids.
@@frocat5163These days, there are kids using the DNA to find their sperm donors. I'm so glad I never donated my eggs.

It is almost as if EVERY UK scandal happens when a certain, economy-first, group are in charge of the country, remember that next month
Plenty of labour scandals aswell don't worry. Post office scandal began on their watch. The Iraq war lies then the guy who killed himself and the government basically whitewashed themselves of the blame despite being to blame. Absolute power corrupts. I really don't think either party deserves public office. Everyone knows the one true party is monster raving loony party.
The desire to wait until all those affected were DEAD was also Labour policy and ENFORCED by The Civil Service, ie those people that stayed in their jobs regardless of elections and made the actual decisions on imports etc.

Powerful and shocking
Plasma is still big business in the south and a they definitely still target low income areas. I have many friends that have done it regularly to help pay the bills.
So Britain's NHS was affected by the US's "profit before lives" health system.
Very informative
I holidayed in the UK in 1988. As a result I was unable to donate blood in Australia till last year when the ban was lifted. When I saw the thumbnail I immediately thought Mad Cow Disease but wait - there's more. 😢😢
Can you do an episode on the Canadian Red Cross blood scandal?
I had to get a transfusion in the early 90’s. A month later I saw a news clip about the Red Cross improving blood screening. Made me very nervous, fortunately my donation wasn’t contaminated.
I’ve had 10 more transfusions since then and I never caught anything from the donated blood.
I consider my brother to be very lucky he has hemophilia b and was born in 88 but was placed on factor nine instead of the factor 8 but it is very shocking to hear how bad it was I am shocked at my own incompetent government I am from the uk
Spread to Australia as well. We were getting most of our blood products from the UK at the time
Have you done a video on the post office scandal?
I'd really like to watch a video that went in-depth on the evidence around this scandal.
This reminds me of the Arkham Story. How Joker sent samples to hospitals all over the city but a few got infected with the Titan virus... Wth
Tbf i don't see a problem with paying for blood as long as you can test it
Every time to this day when I donate blood they ask about receiving blood in the UK during tow window.
I found it ironic, when I was living in USA and wanted to try donating blood, they were extremely racist and pedantic about who was and wasn't allowed to give blood.
I was told I wasn't allowed to apply because I was of English origin and they didn't trust any UK people to be free from BSE beef-transmitted prions.
Even though blood donated from US citizens could have come from someone who unknowingly had some nasty disease in their blood!
All the time the UK health authorities had imported blood from USA and given unsuspecting UK people Hepatitis C.
The UK and USA both have done awful cover-ups and psy-ops on their people but at least the USA government was honest about how awful they are. The UK is far more underhand with its cover-ups.
I used to work for United Blood Services and we sold plasma to the UK as well as Switzerland and Germany. We had a very stringent testing policy. None of our donations were paid. Most paid donations are generally designated for product testing.
hearing this now makes alot of sense about strange things my own dad has told me- he was born in 63' and while he's never told me about anykind of blood transfusion, i know he's been to prison more times than a pregnant hooker with a black eye. i wouldnt doubt blood donating is how he stock piled for dime bags when he got out, strange how the simple signing of a paper can have a ripple effect for almost 60 years.
At that time, scientists were paid crap and still are. In 1986, the senior scientist at the Red Cross Blood Bank in Melbourne was paid LESS than a first year accounting graduate. So, the people who were responsible for testing the blood donated were paid sweet fuck all. Fresh science grads were paid 13 to 15k per year compared to business grads who would have a starting wage of at least 30k.
This was in Australia where, thankfully, blood donations are not paid for, and even back then, the pre screening was pretty thorough. All you got for your donation was a cup of tea, juice or milkshake, and something to eat like sandwiches, biscuits, or party pies. My work would organise for us to have a couple of hours to go down as a group to donate. I was working in an animal serology lab at the time, doing farm animal testing, pre breeding/sale checks, and pre export checks. We also were involved in research for testing for various farm animal diseases, developing vaccines, or better/faster/more sensitive ways of disease detection.
Truly an NHS moment

The fallout of the tainted blood revelation was why my mother was terrified to get a blood transfusion after I was born. They almost resorted to taking blood from her 65+ year old grandfather as a result. She needed whole blood, and we live in Canada. She agreed to public blood in the end, and nothing bad came of it but that was a whole thing.
The UK wasn't the only place hit by this perversion. Italy too was hit... And as a blood donor, I'm glad to help keep this out.

They are STILL paying poor people for their blood, in the US, only now it's in the form of supermarket gift cards and not cash. (because cash compensation is illegal?)
There's a free clinic at a medical school, in my area, where the students that work there screen their patients and give a card to any that seem healthy enough, which can be redeemed for a gift card, when they donate blood at the medical school's hospital. The vast majority of those visiting the free clinic are the poor from the surrounding community, and students at the medical school and other nearby universities. Most don't go there unless they are experiencing some sort of immediate health problem, while many others suffer from chronic conditions requiring ongoing care. Nice pool of potential donors to choose from, huh?
In the US EVERYTHING is big business

Additionally, in the United States, during the 1980s, the major blood banks across the country refused to test the blood supply for HIV for a fairly long time - despite the availability of reliable tests and despite knowing that people were contracting HIV through the blood supply. The thinking was that people contracting HIV through donated blood was more acceptable than the hysteria that could ensue by beginning testing, which would admit to the public that the blood supply was tainted. I believe it was the Central Blood Bank of California that finally announced that they would begin testing all blood, despite the protests from other blood banks across the country. But once California's blood supply began to be tested, the rest of the country followed suit.
Moreover, there are STILL stringent guidelines for men who have sex with men in the U.S. who want to give blood today, despite the fact that the blood is thoroughly tested and that thanks to PrEP, fewer gay men and men who have sex with men are contracting HIV. Plus, when you're on PrEP, you're tested for HIV regularly.
Its horrible.. indeed it is! .. but can we start adressing the fact that the title "Lord" is still a thing in the UK ? 😂
I think here in the US, we shipped the factor 8 out to some Asian countries after refusing to remove it from the supply for years. Not telling them, of course. Ugh.
