1 part amazing actor, 1 part good writing ... It's amazing what you can get.
Stallone reminds me of Tom Cruise in a way, in that they both started out acting more and actioning less ... you should probably have First Blood and at least the first Rocky on your list.

She starred in the AMC TV drama spy series "The Americans". It was a very good show. Yeah, this one was really well made, and felt like a true Mission Impossible film. Great reactions to your third Mission Impossible film, Miss Verowak!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽I'd have a hard time picking a J.J. best film as both the Star Wars & Star Trek films were fun, but probably best series is "Fringe" for me.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this one so much. They really do get even better from this point on, as hard as that might be to believe.
As for Stallone, he actually can act. The problem is that he was quickly type cast as an action movie star which generally never showed his acting ability. If you want to see him give great performances, watch Rocky and Rambo: First Blood. Rocky is a great performance and he has an incredible monologue in the last ten minutes or so of Rambo that elevates it beyond a simple action film. Speaking of Rocky, that's another franchise that surprsingly remains good throughout the entire series except for one of the films which is considered slightly less well done. You can skip all of the Rambo films except the first one. After that one they're just rather mindless action films that lack the heart of the first one.
Also, check out Stallone in Demolition Man with Sandra Bullock. Stallone isn't bad, but Sandra Bullock and Wesley Snipes steal the show in that one.

  • @oxhine
    @oxhine Před rokem

Hey, Veronique! Hoffman was a villain for the ages!
The undefined super-threat, The Rabbit's Foot, is what Hitchcock termed a MacGuffin, a vaguely defined object everybody wants crafted for the sole purpose of propelling the plot.
No lens flares? The movie was filled with them! It's an Abrams staple.
Abrams frequently uses Keri Russell and Greg Grunberg so both naturally appeared here.
This installment was like a feature-length episode of Abrams' spy show "Alias" which I highly recommend to you since you liked this so much! It's a Jennifer Garner vehicle where Bradley Cooper got his start.
From this point on, the series is one continuous narrative that just keeps getting better!
Never seen Sly in anything but "Guardians 2"? "Rocky" and "Rambo" are must-see films! I highly recommend them. Stallone writes a lot of his material. He looks like a palooka but he has a literary sensibility.

30:14 Fairly strong glass probably wouldn’t break, unless the impact force is concentrated in a very small area, like an elbow or heel or knee. If Ethan’s entire butt landed first on the glass pane, then that’s a fairly large area, plus it’s soft tissue, not bone, so it compresses at least a tiny bit. I think it would have looked and felt like a cartoon if the pane had shattered.

Sylvester Stallone can act but only in narrowly tailored roles that play to his strengths and minimize his non actor skills. That said, I would normally trust David Fincher to coax the best out of anyone but it's hard to imagine Stallone would have been an asset. Can't express how good Philip Seymour Hoffman was. I'm sorry, but Davian's death is SO bogus. Look back at the scene. When Davian and Ethan crash through the window into the street there are lots of people milling around and one car - moving away from the confrontation. The road is also shown to be long and straight with no curves and no other vehicles. Next: truck comes out of nowhere and mows Davian down. This means we've got either a homicidal or visually impaired driver. They are so uncaring or blind that they don't care about/cant see two people rolling around on the ground in front of their vehicle. Also: hit and run. The driver isn't seen to get out of his car nor is an ambulance called.

I'm in the minority here on CZcams (but not among critics and audiences when it was released), but this my least favorite of these films. Aside from Hoffman (who is AMAZING here), the film is a typical J.J. Abrams paint-by-numbers affair that feels very much like a 2 hour long episode of Alias. The producers chose Abrams to bring the franchise "back to earth" after the zany John Woo installment, and as usual, he overcorrected. The difference between this one and the next is night and day.

Verowak I know I am rather late to the party with this one.
Sylvester Stallone movie's to watch, Rambo first blood (the movie s based on the book first blood, an amazing book and the movie is doing a good job of trying to live up to the expectaton. PS I don't think any movie EVER will manage to...., I am not sure what you have heard of the rambo movies but it is not a lot of action, more acting then action for sure. There is also the first two Rocky movies that are in the essence love story involving a boxer. I would say you can actually see that Sylvester can act in theese moves and not just be an action star as he is in a lot of the later movies of his career.
There is an amazing interview with Matt Damon where he speaks about the difference he and Tom Cruise have when it comes to action movies and making their own stunts. czcams.com/video/ERzbkt5r5Gg/video.html There is a link to a 3 min interview named "Matt Damon & Tom Cruise Have Different Approaches To Death-Defying Stunts | CONAN on TBS".
It is about the fourth MI movie. I would not say it is a spoiler just talking about a stunt.
