Stampscapes 101: More BRILLIANCE INKS by Tsukineko

  • I bought a few more metallic types of papers and I only had gold and white Brilliance ink to use on them so I needed a few more colors to test out these new surfaces. Brilliance pigment inks have a higher capacity for drying on various surfaces including the non porous types so they're a good choice for experimentation. A lot of oil based inks seem to never dry on surfaces that are non absorbent but, so far, I've had good luck with Brilliance on most of them. On some surfaces, though, you still might have to wait a while for them to dry but better slow than never if you really like the surface/paper. I'm going to also try a Clare black and a Staz-On pigment white. If anyone has any tips for me, please share them in the comment section below as much of this media is new to me. Even the Brilliance inks are something that I haven't stamped much with. I've had the inks for a long time but I used to just use them to ink up the side of Stampbord tiles.

    stazon is formulated to stay of non porous surfaces like acetate, glass, plastic, etc works well on mirror cardstock where some others smear for a long time

      I've used the Staz-On "regular" ink but I don't think I've used this Staz-on pigment ink unless it's the same ink that was called Staz-On Opaque. I'm hoping it has a decent opacity to it because, if it does, it could be a good option for the foil papers.

    Hi Kevin! I love your enthusiasm for trying new products! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!

      I kind of oscillate back and forth between the tried and true and this experimentation fever. lol. When I'm experimenting and seeing new things for the first time (especially if they're working well) it's almost like an addiction. I have to keep trying new things and different combinations of old things. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too!

    Very intriguing! Can't wait to see what you create with all these new inks and paper!

      Me too Karen! I rarely, if ever, order so many different types of inks and papers but the metallics and iridescent paper combinations with the Brilliance inks have been way too much fun with what limited supplies I had so I'm looking forward to trying out a wider range!

      Me too Michelle! Hopefully, we'll figure out some good combinations. I don't know what to expect at all, in many ways, which is kind of exciting.

    Embossing dry and with powders are still used for those of us that make cards.

    Curious as to where you ordered these from?

      Hi Kathy. I had a hard time sourcing a good selection of these but I found this Imagine Crafts site with them. After I ordered, I found out that they're the US distributor for Tsukineko products. Another site that someone told me about having them is the Marco's Papers site and I looked and saw them there as well.

    Hi Kevin - just curious, are you planning on spray sealing the scenes you create on Stardream or mirror paper? Is it even necessary to do on these types of papers?

    • @stampscapes
      @stampscapes  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Chau, that's a good question. I don't feel we need to spray on Stardream as the inks adhere to it really well and I don't feel that the inks really benefit from spraying like dye inks benefit on white card stock. The mirrored papers, though, are another question. I plan on experimenting with spraying one of them to see what happens. One thing I need to watch out for is the Brilliance pigment inks disappearing by being sprayed as that type of ink has a tendency of turning towards transparency by being sprayed, thus, making the impressions and applications of ink less visible. If I spray, it's going to have to be in very thin quick drying layers to seal without saturating. Also, I don't know how spraying will affect the smooth mirrored surface. I have a feeling it will turn it to more of a frosted look which might not be bad but would, nevertheless, change the feel of the piece. All of my test pieces are dry now so I'll test one out in the next couple days.

    I purchased the small version of the Brillance inks( called DewDrops) to try out with your stamps. I want to try them on glossy cardstock first , as I had a hard time finding the paper you used. I will have to keep looking. Can you tell me where you found them( the paper that is)? I can’t wait to see what you plan on doing with these inks. I’ll have to go to Imagine and check them out, especially the white I can’t find that one. Thanks for the tips where to look Kevin.

      Hi Jean. A silver version of the very reflective mirrored paper is available on Amazon here: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DH6G7YR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

      This is the gold one. They're out of stock on it now but looks like it's anticipated for Dec 25th to be in stock: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WCQS1NT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

      I bought a lot of Stardream papers too so looking forward to trying them on those papers too. There's a LOT of experimentation ahead for me. If you have any dark papers of any sort, try a few impressions of your Brilliance inks on that/those too. They can work quite nice on those types of papers from what I've seen.

    Interesting... my blue brilliance would not dry on foil cardstock even after trying to heat set it twice and waiting days. I finally laminated it.

      @stampscapes  Před 3 lety

      My Brilliance pads were fairly dry and the scenes dried completely in 3 days but we'll see how fast they'll dry with these new pads. I just did a test/video with these new pads tonight including some of these silver inks on that same type of silver foil paper. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes 4-5 days to dry. I think I can allow it to air dry for 2.5 days or so and then to expedite the process a little by heat setting the back of the foil and then allowing to dry another day or so. I tested these new pads out on the Stardream papers tonight and they set up pretty well within the time of the actual video. Not 100% dry but dry enough to handle with some care. I expect those cards to be pretty dry within a couple hours.

    Where do you get your paper from? What weight is it

    • @stampscapes
      @stampscapes  Před 3 lety +2

      I got the papers on Amazon. Most are Stardream and 105lb cover weight but the dark blue is an 80 lb text. Maybe I should have bought the dark blue in 105lb as well but it should be fine as I can mount on thicker paper for card making. The mirrored silver foil paper is quite thick but I don't think they say how thick. It feels about the equivalent of a 105lb cover though. That's also on Amazon. They sold out of the gold version at this time but the silver is still available: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DH6G7YR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
