    I just made a video talking about 10 things I wish I knew BEFORE I started studying actuarial science as a current student! I think it's great to hear your perspective from a seasoned professional as well!

    I am looking into pursuing a career that involves a lot of math as I have a true passion for it! As of right now I am working in an entry level finance job but I want to take a career path with finance and math roots. I just discovered the actuary job field would you say it is heavy in math and finance?

      Hi Dalton! The actuarial field is definitely heavy in math and finance! You'll use Excel every day and might also do a lot of programming (depending on your specific role). Hope that helps, and let me know if you have more questions! :D

    You mentioned that you dont have to choose between SOA and CAS just yet...but where do you sign up to start the exams. Is there a 3rd body above these?

      Good question! The 2 preliminary exams are run through SOA, no matter what. Preliminary exams P and FM are equivalent to CAS Exam 1 and 2. After that, you can choose which path you want to take! I hope this helps :)

    What does the work environment look like for actuaries today? Is there any opportunity for remote work, or are actuary’s still commuting to an office?

    • @EtchedActuarial
      @EtchedActuarial  Před rokem

      I'll keep this in mind for a future video so I can go more in depth! A lot of actuaries work remotely nowadays, but it's still common to have in-office jobs. Basically, it depends on the company you work for!

    If I am a member of IFOA(UK), is it possible to become a member of SOA or CAS or Canadian Institute of Actuaries directly? Can you make a video with respect to the MOUs that different Actuarial bodies have?

    • @EtchedActuarial
      @EtchedActuarial  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I'll keep this in mind for a future video idea! But basically the SOA or CAS will "count" some IFOA exams as being equivalent, so when you transfer, you don't lose all your progress. Here's a document from the SOA that might help you: www.soa.org/491631/globalassets/assets/files/edu/2023/iofa-waiver-rules.pdf

    Is there a way to job shadow an actuary?

    • @EtchedActuarial
      @EtchedActuarial  Před 11 dny

      There is! Your best bet is to contact working actuaries in your area on LinkedIn. Sometimes they'll be able to make arrangements for you to come in and see what they do! :)

    Do you have to be smart to pursue an actuarial career, or generally interested in math?

    • @EtchedActuarial
      @EtchedActuarial  Před rokem +4

      A general interest in math is important, otherwise you probably won't enjoy actuarial work. You don't need to be a genius to become an actuary though. As long as you could understand the math in your last year of high school, you should be fine! It matters more that you're determined and ready to give it your all :)

    Please tell me what is the requirement for getting actuary internship

    • @EtchedActuarial
      @EtchedActuarial  Před rokem +2

      The requirements for getting an internship depend on your school and the company, but usually you need some relevant experience (in a stepping-stone job) and at least one exam passed!
