That machine should support 16Gb using the right OS with PAE support, basically an Intel CPU extension allowing you to address more than 4Gb in 32-bit mode.

I think that it would be interesting to trry modern lin ux on this thing, only issue is that you need just the right system, somenthing without sse instructions and without systemd, perhaps modern slackware
We're getting to the point where the lack of SSE2 makes it to where modern Linux won't work well because a lot of graphical and sound libraries now required to be compiled to use SSE2 instructions.

If my memory serves me well (no pun intended...) - running the memory at cl2 timing makes the system quite a bit more snappy in many situations.

I bet it would run the newest debian because it runs on old machines, you could make that a daily driver! U need some noctua’s tho 😂

I think since you mixed 100 & 133 MHz sticks ... it caused those memory problem.... anywas waiting for 4 of those 2mb 900 mhz pentium 3 xeons.
I think fastest memory sticks must run on the lowest sticks speed (100 MHz)
The 1gb stick were 133mhz and was working fine with the rest. Maybe the 128mb 133mhz sticks has not enough memory chips and are a crippled version only supported in newer hardware.

Switch to Windows Server 2003 x64, i think that is good enough system for that server.

som sagt windows X 32 stöder bara max 3,6gb du måste ha x64bit för att du skall kunna ta del av all minne det va mitt problem på låga dar :D va menar jag med det då jo jag hade stannat kvar länge på windows xp ifall jag hade haft en bra verson av windows xp men 64bits versonen va buggig på den tiden så jag fick vänta in windows 7 och uppåt ;D
No windows 2000 data center can to 32gb with PAE on a 32bit OS :)
Im confused why does it matter if some memory is higher then others? Its inside the case anyway but why not put as much as you can regardless of how it looks? I would rather say that it has 16 gigs of memory, then to say all my memory sticks are the same height.😂
It is all about the details! :D I found a solution to have the stick all the same height! I ordered new memory :D
