  • Which is better... a sit-down zero turn or a stand-on zero turn? Nope, we're not going to have that debate! It's clear that Standers are better (except when they're not). In 2023 every single major manufacturer has a stander to choose from. But how do you pick? Start by watching this review, of course! We drove 9 standers at the 2022 Equip Expo back-to-back-to-back-to... (you get the picture) and have some great insights. They all cost similarly and their all good, but only a few were great!
We tested the following stand on or stander commercial mowers: Ferris z3x 61", Bobcat zs4000 52", Hustler Super SF 60", Sright Stander ZK 61", Grasshopper SO26 61", Toro GrandStand HDX 60", Exmark Vertex S-Series 60", Gravely Pro-Stance 52", Scag V-Ride II 61"

Great video and demo of stander mowers. I currently have a 8 year old Wright Stander ZK 52” and absolutely still I would say the best stander I’ve owned. I also have 2021 Ferris stander, 2020 Bad Boy Stander, 2019 Gravely Stander, 2 Scag Stander 2018, and 1 Toro Grandstand 2017. with that being said The ZK has 2800-HRS on I bought it used with 300-HRS and have been in the business since 1994 and have probably owned more than 60+ mowers and will say the ZK is just that great of a mower that I refuse to let it go. I do not have a dealer near me or I would have 10 in my fleet. GREAT VIDEO AND AWESOME REVIEWS.

The 2 primary stand on mowers I've used lately, are the exmark staris, and the wright zk. I liked both brand's, however they both have some minor things I didn't like. The exmark was a pita to change the main belt on, and I didn't enjoy the controls that spread out. I did enjoy the speed range, and the cut quality, as well as the fuel efficiency and deck setting. The cover shield for the engine, was a big plus, as it was strong enough to carry things on it, without damaging them. As for the wright zk, it's control's we're different, but I like the responsiveness and the fact that they are stationary. It had really good speed, and on the fly deck height adjustment. It's downsides for me, we're not very fuel efficient, and the spring plate would tend to want to eject you off the mower on uneven ground. It had no protection against touching the exhaust or motor which is really bad. Deck pin not the greatest. Otherwise I like them both.

I’ve had my Ferris Z3X 61 for 3 years and it’s been wonderful. The controls all make sense in their placement, easy to throttle down (mine has a lever) with hands on the control to engage the PTO with the other hand also on the controls. As for as the adjustable speed control bar, I wouldn’t want to go without one. In the instances where you want to go full out you’re usually not doing many turns or back and forth motion with the throttle levers so the need to have your fingertips on the bar is not an issue for me, when I want to go full throttle I push and hold on. The real value of the speed control bar is for limiting down. If I’m near cars or wall unit acs and need to be really close I often adjust the bar to the “slowest setting” as a safe guard. Or if I stick a newbie running it, I put it there to give them a little time to get used to it. Most often though I know I need to be at the second position for optimal cut or 3rd position for a quicker cut, in those instances the comfort of being able to fully close your hand around that bar is a great asset, especially in larger fields with long runs, it’s much less fatiguing on the hands than having to try to manually hold your speed without a stop. And it’s super easy and quick to adjust it, I can even do it easily while mowing without stopping.
The Z3 platform is also comfortable and it’s wide stance makes it very smooth and easy to control. I also have a 36” Z1 but I always put beginners on the the Z3 because it is smooth and forgiving, and the wide tires make it really responsive. Not to mention the way it hugs slopes.

@JohnWaldron44 Well that is a tough question to answer. There isn't a wrong answer really. They both stripe very well. It partly depends on the operator I think, but I think Scag does a better job with wet grass. The mulch kit that comes on the Wright does a great job laying down stripes.

I have had numerous hydro issues with these two machines also. I think the motors are not big enough. Also had a z2 which had issues. Had tons of down time with all 3 machines. In 2021 I bought my first Wright ZK. Two seasons and not one problem. Picked up another one in 2022 and no problems. Guess what? Say that ya know how to use stand on mowers , when you’ve bought a Great Dane Stand on mower from over 20 years ago .
My personal opinion about this course , it sucks .
I wouldn’t attempt to have professional lawnmower guys ride these on a track like this at all .
I was on a National Lawnmower Company that’s the only one that was publicly traded , but though they are wealthier then most other lawnmower companies, their choice for managers sub par .
They had a fleet of JD stand on & sit down mowers but they typically only would allow crews who were also typically under equipped go out with only 1 mower . The downside to these actions meant that they’d send crews to take on large properties where the crew leader would still be mowing while everyone else was done and waiting .
Now with that said , we serviced a property with 244 acres and it have every imaginable terrain that you’d throw at a mower . The JD cuts great and we’re robust and had a great safety feature that allowed the operator to go down a slick slope wo touching the brakes and the mower would smoothly go down and then you could engage the brakes .
Then again one knucklehead flipped a 60” sit down mower on a steep slope cause he was riding parallel with the slope .
We also had lots of retention ponds to deal with and they have bumpy steep slopes .
Not a problem with a true professional.
Looks to as Grasshoppers design team did some true operator input .

Regardless of the conditions, those mowers were beast at tackling tall , wet grass & not leaving clumps of clippings.
For me , the one issue is the price for JD as far as product , parts and repairs . All of em very high.
But like I said , the company that I was working for had a fleet of JD but then they went with ExMark .
Crappy mowers , all the way around and they couldn’t give a great cut nor handle the abuse , as parts would break or come loose .

Most of my customers here in West Virginia don’t like the stand on mowers. I still use gravely walk behinds with a 2 wheel sulky. I can get off and walk steep hills and I have large turf master wheels so I don’t tear yards up. Been doing this for 30 years and have watched the quality of a lot mowing equipment go down hill. Corporate greed 😢

It’s all about the operator. You may just not be as comfortable with the stand on mower yet. I can assure you cut quality has gone no where like you think it has. I’ve never tore up a yard on a stand on and it’s way faster than the walk behind. I can mow at 11 mph on my stand on lol

Delivered a nice even cut, has the super tight turning ability czcams.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend I was looking for, and is just a blast to drive. It takes a little bit to get used to driving one after driving a normal tractor style, but once you've got it, you've got it. If you're cutting lines, you have to be careful spinning the mower around or the back tire will dig a bare spot. Just take it nice and slow during the turn and then it's back to full throttle across the yard!

I run a Husqvarna stand on 48". It's got a 24.5 horse Kawasaki engine and cuts great. Why didn't he demo the Husqvarna stand on? Husqvarna is the dark horse in the industry. I love their stand on, zero turns, and their 2 cycle equipment. If you buy any zero turn, walk behind, or stand on stay away from the Vanguard engines. They're junk!!! I have been in the Green Industry for 35 plus years and have just about every brand of mower, weedeater, backpack blower and so on. Like I said I will stay with Husqvarna. Literally everything I own is Husqvarna commercial and its never let me down.

You made absolutely no comments or references to build quality, engine reliability, deck thickness/strength, ease of maintenance, etc. This was an absolute waste of time watching and almost completely uninformative.
